이건 좋은 아이디어로군요!
By default all Smart Dolls come with jeans which allow you to carry them around like this.
I am currently in Japan right now and will be here for years. Hope can visit your office ^ ^ or if got chance then work part time at you there >.<
At first glance, it looks like paper bag strapped to the back XD
That is a bit sad that Miim was shut down ... though it might be more that they had gone as far with her as was practical with that design.
I noticed in the HRP-4 link you provided, that robot had functional hands ... which Miim did not have ... and I can see where that would be a major upgrade to a design because of everything that would be involved.
We might see a new project like Miim starting up ... a "next generation" model maybe ... because the Japanese government is getting into the picture and wants to put more money and focus on humanoid robotics projects:
from the Japan Times newspaper
"Japan’s robotics revolution gets a reboot as nation aims to regain lead in ¥3.4 trillion industry"
I can see what you are saying about the "focus on the real work" ... yes they want to push ahead in those areas ... as those will be serious "worker" bots that will be able to function at least close to the way humans do in some jobs ... but we might also see a more human looking bot project because in other articles in the Japan Times there is also a need for humanoid bots to do jobs such as working with the elderly ... where a more human looking bot would be preferable to one that looked more "mechanical"
I understand what you are saying about full sized bots being difficult to keep balanced, and the possible danger/damage that can happen if they fall over ... with as easy as it is for us humans to fall down ... I can easilty understand the difficulty of developing a really robust stabilization system for full sized bots
... yeah ... at 120cm a bot that sized wont damage as much if it does fall over ... Danny listed the weight as 16.5kg for his Smart Doll Plus ... I can guess that her weight will probably go up to between 20-25kg once all the components are installed ... which would be easy for a human to lift back up if she fall down, and not as much risk of damaging either herself or anything else.
That I remember, Miim's weight was listed at 45kg ... which is about comparable to a human of the same size.
You carry this around all the time ?^^
but it'll be hard walking around in a crowd
Prevent droopy backpack syndrome with these easy steps > http://www.dannychoo.com/en/post/27293/Brooks+Pickwick+Review.html
How to prevent your backpack from drooping with this easy trick.
I ended up going with two (well three really) wallets for my last trip to Japan.
In NZ you can pay for just about anything anywhere with your bank card so the Machine Era wallet I got is perfect, bank card, Driver's License and credit cards is all I need on me.
In Japan I need to carry cash so I bought the thinnest wallet I could find that fit the Japanese bank notes and a coin purse to handle the shrapnel.
It worked out fairly well in my opinion. Still had the Machine Era wallet on me with the cards in it.
Just don't forget you have a lens in the bottom of your bag and go dropping it.

If you're designing wallets, can you also design wallets with chains? Or maybe something that can connect your wallet to your pants like a strong string (to prevent pickpockets from snatching your wallet).

Very Nice bag! Awesome review Danny!
Putting her in a bag like this is oddly cute!
Heh heh, nice idea Danny!
I like this image here. XD
YOINK!!! Gonna use this pic for an inspirational reference... ^^
City scenery is good and all, but some nature would be great, I think.
Wow I am truly impressed and very inspired. :) I love all that you said in the end and I plan to do things to take charge and exit this comfort level I'm in. You are AWESOME!
Unfortunately, HRP-4C Miim project has been closed.
It's very hard for the government project to keep developing such a girl robot after Fukushima disaster.
So, now they focus on the real work.
Real life size robot is very difficult to keep the position anyhow, so, the researchers are using a big metal frame and Hoisting tools to keep the robot still standing when the power is off.
120cm size robot like ASIMO, pepper and Smart Doll Plus is rather easier to handle, however, still very dangerous when they fall down.
Heavy weight can cause more damage to servo gears than 1/3.
I have Robi (34cm, 1kg) on my desk, but still there's a risk to break the gears when he falls down. (Robi has a daisy chain servo system with rotation angle feed back, but no stabilising algorithm i.e. 3 axis gyro sensors on the PC board are not used. He changes his postures by just programed still data all the time, so he falls down very easily.)
I was able to see that Rosen Gepetto vid, and that linked to a few others that he posted
... he has the upper body movements to a point where they are pretty nice
... in all the vids I watched the feet movements are the problem ... the dolls do not move their feet very much, and do not appear to lift their feet off the floor
... in one vid it looked like he had put some sort of soft cushion-like material on the bottom of their shoes that would allow the doll movement to flex a bit more since the cushioning material would "give" in the direction the flex was being done
I was not trying to say that Marika was a 1960's toy ... just that her walking movement looked like that
sadly I am not able to read Japanese ... so I was not able to understand the link you sent me about the technical details for Marika, and the link about the stability control system ...... sorry
it IS getting interesting, to see what is being done with making doll size robots ... and it will be very interesting to see what finally makes it on to the market as a commercially available doll/robot
Sumitomo injection machine多色整形機
This caught my eye at the Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco today...
Good for you bud, congrats on your success.
I am soooo waiting for Chitose to be made into a SmartDoll! <3 I really love her lab coat outfit too. =)
Are there any official retailers or places where we can buy Mirai in Tokyo (or elsewhere in Japan?). Shipping/customs to the UK seems to be fairly high from what other collectors have said, so I was hoping I could find somewhere that sells her when I next visit Japan ^_^;
WOOO LOLI YUSSSHHH
Hi Danny, I'm your website follower sice years ago!! You are great!
Regards from Spain!
PD: When will we see Tokyo Trooper again ? :D
Young man from Poland, strive to make a living, and visit Japan some day. Studying, interested in variable art forms, and new technologies. Mainly, a small game critic, and starting writer, horribly jealous of ilustrators ;P
What a piece of s...
PS4 is grate, but where oh where are new games?
Hoping for PS2 cost les then 840$... but, wel, it was't enugh.
Maybe Im wird but I like them :)
Gray box, first column, second row ;)
Is it not he place from one of the "Rush Hour" moies? Where Jackie Chan fall from a ceiling? On some China expo?
Thanks man :)
The boy character is like Your mirror image Danny ;) Like in hobbies and interests ;P
300 ZX ^^
Allmost everything have been said, so I'm only gona sign beneath most of the comments.
Just adding the wishes of Your rehabilitation start to work for You as My does for Me. I know how bad can it be at times, and sean just how bad it can get on My girlfriends dad, a grate man bye the way, but before surgery he just could not walk at all. And as it is risk to that, I hope it not gona occur in Your case. This said, be well.
This is very privet and sensitive, I hope it wont get You in trouble with Your wife. In my nec of the woods they say that geting a child is difficult for those who want one, and to easy for those who dont. But probably You already know that. And with Your attitude it does not bother You to much, and I'm sure You support Your wife also, as this is probably harder on this magnificent woman.
Its a grate movie, with magnificent mood. I also want to wisit Japan, but this motion picture moved this trip high on my "do befor im dead" list ;P :)
Just what I wanted to ask ;)
Nice summary, bow ^^.
Im not Danny (allways have filing Im impolite writing only Danny, there Mr. missing, but no other seem to bother) nor in stature nor achievements, but You are still young, You shuld take up language lerning when You still have a lot of free time, it gona dissapear when You get older, and young mind (like brain) is better at learning new languages then older one. I as a child was blest with grabing English from TV, just waching Cartoon Network and a UK TV series for kids "Muzzy in Gondoland". I wantet to know what the characters on the shows say, so I lerned, but skiped the writing, and so, now I can read, understand what someone says and answer them, but writing is a pain, as I need to look every litle word in a dictionary (like now). So do lern like Danny advice and You will do grate :)
And dont bring yourself down, You will find your life goal soon enough :)
Wow, nice set, pretty expensive at the time if I remember corectly?
16 bits have som charm to them, I lovem a lot ;)
I think its a nice form of censorship ;)
Yes its all over Poland, and very annoying as well.
Its called Jazz in Poland and this part of the world ;)
Im not complainin. Just dreaming of what could have been ;)
I was mistaken. Its even wors with google translate. Half or more of words are not translated at all to Polish, there is only phonetical record slaped in my face, or translation to english :/
What is this? I thought Civic mk I, but the back is diferent, right? If its not Civic, what is it?
They certainly have a high class charm ;)
C110 :) So sexy ;)
