BandAiD asks a good question. You be proud otaku or closet otaku?
Depending on who you are talking to in Japan, the word "Otaku" still has a negative image which is why many want to hide the fact that they indulge in otaku activities.
Me? Is proud to be otaku. I love my otaku hobbies and am not ashamed of speaking about them and even made a lucrative business which involves them.

On a separate topic, was also just trying to think why BandAiD's nick name is "BandAiD" and was wondering whether it has anything to do with the bandaids that you see in eroge illustrations like this (NSFW).

Original text from BandAiD below.

Often times we see it in manga, anime and the sorts where otakus are "outcast". How many here are "out of the closet" with their hobby be it figures, manga, anime or cosplaying, with others you know personally in life? I'm curious to see how many here hide it or show it with pride?

Quite frankly, I consider myself partially out the door with my hobby on anime/manga. All my close friends know about it, and didn't really have a problem with it when they found out. Quite surprisingly I found one of them to actually be a fan of anime/manga herself. Sadly she's taken. - damn -. My family has an idea, but not much.

If you were to look in my room, you'd at most just see one shelf with manga on it, anywhere else you'd look in my room, it'd look just like any other 22 year old male's bedroom. messy.

My clothes are actually everyday "normal" clothes as well, you won't find any t-shirt/headbands/armbands in my room of an anime character. You'd also never see me doing cosplaying.

Some might consider me not to be a hardcore fan of my hobby, while it's quite the opposite. If I were compared to anyone i'd be just like Nogizaka Haruka of the anime/manga "Nogizaka haruka no himitsu"

So how many here are out and about with their hobbies? Do you cosplay at all? Wear anime t-shirts? Are you in an afterschool anime club? Be honest! I'm hoping should I ever get married, it'd be with someone who enjoys the same things I do.

Pic is unrelated, but she's a damn cute Ranka-chan eh?
