Japan Otaku Room
So, we had a good look at your otaku room and so did a load of Japanese folks - that room post was all over the Japanese Internets. Some comments about your rooms are up at Aroma Black which include:-
-These guys are rich!
-Where do they sleep?
-Why do otaku like to show off their rooms?
-These look no different than Japanese otaku rooms!
-I have a GF so unfortunately I cant have my room like this
-What do gaijin (foreigners) parents think when they see this?
-How do they get hold of this stuff?
-I love rooms like this
And the post got to the top page of Hatena which is like a digg.com which caused hammering on the servers for a few days. Japanese readership goes up to 35% depending on the time of day - they seem to like lurking though ^^;
Comments at Hatena include:-
-Otaku are so rich!
-I want that MacPro and drums
-There are not enough books
As for the "rich" comment - I personally dont see how spending money on a hobby makes us rich - we probably spend less than what the average smoker spends?
I was actually able to double page views and show new visitors other parts of the site by editing the Japanese version of the otaku room post leading them to my profile page, mac life, working history at Amazon and Microsoft, K-ON!, the Dollfie category and more - it was the perfect landing page which not only converted many new visitors to new readers, but the mac, microsoft/amazon and K-ON! posts were also picked up separately by many blogs and became huge sources of incoming traffic too!
Have a look at the Japanese version and you will notice that the extra content I put in is inline with what the new visitors came to see and not a "oh if you are new then check out these other posts."
Was not intentional though and only decided last minute when I saw huge incomming though my real time stats.
I done the same for my MacBook Wheel post which came out as the number one search result which brought in a load too - as soon as I saw the wave coming in I edited the page to introduce other Mac goodies which helped convert many users too.
StatCounter enables you to see realtime stats which enable you to take action immediately - its too late when Google analytics poll their results a day later. If you have a blog/site then I encourage to look out for trends like this and take action as appropriate.
Anyway, How about Japanese otaku rooms? The NicoNico video below shows you what their room looks like. Does not matter whether we are yellow, black, white, purple - all our otaku rooms look the same! Looks like Otaku will unite za warudo.
