Would love to visit somewhere like this. Is there anywhere on Earth that resembles this? Via Byonavi.
Danny, I think if there is any place in the world that is close, you live there. Between this and the FF worlds, I would love to see a city like this.
It's like, Utopia. I don't think that Japan is a perfect Utopia, but like you said the FF series is like this, just about all the time.
feels like a final fantasy-themed scene
Oh I was thinking the same thing too! That artwork from Final Fantasy XII just popped-up in my mind the second I saw this picture: http://www.game-attitude.com/media/images/maj0094/ff12.jpg
this is what happens when we let hippies design our cities.
Maybe so but you have to admit, it's a beautiful city. ^^
I don't think that there is such a place but I hope someone will build something like this.
my new wallpaper :P
yay, mine too! Haruhi fired ^^;
I'd definitely like to visit/live in a place like that. It's GORGEOUS.
Wow... Beautiful. Looks kinda of like a mix of Italy/Venice(? not sure if that's the place) Taiwan and Japan... Sort of o_o
There are plenty of urban planners out there who have put out ideas like this as a means of greening city centres, and helping reduce carbon levels in such places. We see basic ideas like this with rooftop gardens, or integrating series of terraces on buildings where plants can grow. However, companies who make apartment buildings, office towers, and so forth don't see the profit in doing so. In most cases, buildings have to be designed differently to support the added weight of these plants, their soil, and water to feed them, which can be quite heavy, especially to achieve something on par with the illustration above. It may look beautiful, and be great for the environment, but it does nothing for the company's profit. If anything, it makes the project more expensive, thus having a negative impact on the project's bottom line. Because of this, it's still rare to see this sort of integration of nature and urban design in real life. I remember in my hometown there were quite a few plans to include rooftop gardens in some new highrises going up, but that was quickly scrapped when it became apparent to the developers that they would just be throwing money away by proceeding with the gardens. In the end, the highrises went up sans gardens. It really is unfortunate. :(
It may take another decade or so, but green building is definitely the next step in post-modern architecture. Well, that's what I believe anyway. It's becoming more and more voiced with the new age tech-savvy young architects looking for a style of their own. And if designed properly, the savings in operating costs over a span of 10 years can make up for the cost of extra materials/time/labour during construction of a "green" building. The current generation of architects don't practice it as much because it is completely time-consuming and thus cost way too much money for researching and for the most part, out of their comfort zone. I just hope green building practices don't come too late into mainstream construction (We're pretty much doomed at the pollution rate we're going at right now)
Hopefully it is mostly a matter of these older architects drifting into retirement so that these younger ones can work their way into senior positions that will allow them to greenlight more projects that embrace urban greening. It just makes sense to go this route, even if it may be a touch expensive in the early going. I'd love to see more cities embrace it in the future. Japan Architect did a feature that discussed this in their Autumn 2006 issue when discussing possible futures for Tokyo in 2050 amidst Japan's shrinking population. It's an interesting read. Here's a link with a little bit of info from that issue: http://www.japan-architect.co.jp/english/2maga/ja/ja0063/mainfr.html
Hope we see some place like this in the near future. I would like to see more green and less concrete in cities.
Is that from Macross Frontier? ^^;
you can see some buildings and surroundings like that in Brazil
When I become filthy stinking rich I'll build a mini-city just like that and you are all invited to live there. Until then; I guess we'll have to make do with our bland, concrete boxes.
That would absolutely be my dream city
looks like someone put Hong Kong, Archades from FF12 and Tarzan's Jungle in to one place is awesome imo
If anyone is curious, this is an Imperial Boy pic, don't know if that was mentioned on the page you linked to, I didn't notice it. More good stuff by him here: http://tksn.web.infoseek.co.jp/index.html
That's a dream city indeed. It gives a feeling of tranquillity and warmness, ne?
not on earth you cant find these.
This will probably be what the average town looks like after humans have adapted to the effects of global warming. You know, sea levels rising and all that...
Yeah, maybe every person on the planet will only realize the necessity of green constructions only after global warming has result in disastrous accident such as this. I do hope though, that our country leaders would be wiser than our average joe and start to invest very very heavily in green buildings.
=o no place on earth indeed...
it reminds me of italy because of the waters.
Ahh, that place seemed miyazaki style to me. Those buildings that you might see in one of his movies. Anyway, one place that comes into my mind that resembles this place, its gotta be Venice. With all the canals that serves as roads, people in Venice travels in boats called 'Gondolas' to get around the city. Just like what the tram is doing in the picture above. Danny, you might wanna visit Venice while you can, because I heard that due to global warming, the rise in water level might sink Venice pretty soon in the near future.
Sorry for this double post, heres a link for a night Venice ==> http://users.ipfw.edu/virtue/intl/Photo%20Contest/Photo%20Contest%20Winners%2007/9.f.%20Venice.JPG
The same idea occured to me. Hayao Miyazaki would love this.
If hong kong and venice had sex I think it would look like that a little.
There's no way a place like that could currently exist in the U.S. For one thing, the public transport and the pedestrian crossing above it are not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. It would take just one person in a wheelchair to sue the developers and...
feels like a RPG city...for now =.=;
favourite class of characters would probably be elves (:D
I confirm the earlier comment that this is by the artist Imperialboy (or Imperial Boy). You can spend hours exploring one of his cityscapes.
nice city... if somewhere in the world l can find a beautiful world like this...
Um... if you could find someplace that has everything... I guess this is what it would look like..
I think i recognize the artist who made this ultradetailed art... It's Imperial Boy, aka Teikoku Shounen. I have an illustration book detailing all of the best Asian artists drawing Manga art, and he is featured in the book. The title of the book? "Comic Artists Asia" Compiled by Rika Sugiyama & published by Harper Design International. The book features the best artists from Japan, China & Korea. Those who love manga illustrations should get this book, as it contains artist profiles and lots more.
ah i wonder how much an apartment would cost in a city like this. heheh
my backyard looks like that minus the buildings. it true!!
Why can't beautiful cities like this exist in our world? BTW anime rookie, I read that book before. It has a good collection of strange, beautiful, and interesting artwork by various up and coming artists from asia. And i love the artwork done by Imperial Boy.
I found this imperialboy city scape a while ago on some random website. It's more of a night theme, lots going on and very warm colours. It's one of my favourite desktops along with that lush green water city up there. http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/1528/1159530975450gr4.jpg
Sorry, I was expecting that to upload in full quality but nevermind here's a far better link: http://tksn.web.infoseek.co.jp/rough/img99b.htm
That's some amazing artwork! I don't see that site giving the author any credit!
I don't think I want to live in such a city. There would be way too many creepy crawlies!
the artwork is simply beautiful ^___^ i saw this before but i can't remember where and who is the artist ^^;;;
it's beautiful...
So beautiful it can't exist in this world :P
it's a peaceful post-apocalyptic city maybe? after the ice caps melt!
