Dont see many now but there was a time when the streets of Shibuya were full of Ganguro girls.
Oddly Enough this morning I was looking around to see if I could find out when or even if there was going to be a fourth season of Japanorama. I liked that show. It's probably a good thing that the Ganguro scene girls are gone they just didn't look all that good and often times just messed up.
"I look like a panda" as one of the girls stated explains this whole thing to me
Loved Japanorama, good show, hoping for a fourth season too. And I also love ganguro, and it was unfortunate I didn't see any when I was in Tokyo ;(
3d ganguro girls suck ^^; btw i couldnt turn my sound on at the moment so i couldnt hear anything in the movie maybe thats why i dont like it just by looks
You see Parents love stuff like this. Let those crazy kids go wild - take pictures and then when they're older you use the photos for extortion. Don't want to help at the family reunion? Remember those ganguro pics? Hahahah!
hate ganguros, i prefer the girl next door type.
sorry but Ganguros look like bad female clowns if you ask me
Agreed.
Me too..
Some fads come and go. You look at them and think "what sillyness." Some make you stare and smoe are just for fashion. Then there are fads like these that just make me want to stab myself so Ill never have to look at them again. think this is probably the first thing I have ever seen that I don't like about Japan.
we chineses call them the 109辣妹 aka 109 girls. if memory serves, 109 refers to the shopping mall in Shibuya. ('~')
Strange fashion..
papua new guinea ritual make up? christ, that look like a cannibal make up ,damn.
They look like the peroxide-haired, super tanned girls around here. When they get old they will look like they were rode hard and put away wet.
Wasn't this done because of the tanned, blond women here in the US? They wanted to look as western as they could?
I thought it was because they liked the "black" americans look. Kinda like the hiphop teenager style. I remember reading somewhere that the people who do this [and the dudes] are trying to well, "be black." I wonder though what the real answer is... Maybe there are many reasons they do it. Some for this, some for that. I grew up as a skater, stoner, preppie, jock and a noone finally before I dropped out. So yes I had issues, but people from all of those groups always seemed to try and "fit into" that group for different reasons...
When I first heard about these girls a long time ago, I thought it was a shame to ruin ones appearance like that just for a trend. On the bright side, if I ever decide to play pirate someday I'll know where to find one of these girls to be my 'leathery wench'. Yo ho ho... arggggh.
Some of the Ganguro girls look like Kabuki, but with blonde hair instead of red one and dark skin instead of white plus weird clothes. Looks more like a failed suntan session than anything else to me... and it would not be good for camouflage anyway. ^^; This kind of girls surely would make me run for the hills rather than appeal me, but hey, freedom of expression and choice (And yes, I'm quite picky and simplistic at the same time).
It does seem that the negative reaction to Ganguro is universal... there is a good book about this sort of thing - it seems strange to be promoting a paper (!) book (!) on a blog site but it's Patrick Macias' "Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno". Get it from Amazon, it's bloody excellent.
"Dont see many now but there was a time when the streets of Shibuya were full of Ganguro girls." Umm...that's definitely a good thing ^_^u I don't get the motive behind this look at all.
Haha! Didn't expect to see Wossy on dannychoo XD!
LOL the new "Black" ROnald McDonald I'd rather not hit it Bla bla bla bla... No offense
Guess black was the new white back then...
I hope that ganguro will not be that popular anymore. I just don't imagine standing next to a ganguro on the street
Maybe they've migrated out of Japan... A few weeks ago I was stunned, on consecutive days, to come across two different groups of gyaru in Perth, Australia. They weren't fully ganguro, but the slightly lighter variety. While you see and hear ordinary japanese around and about town a lot, this was the first time I'd come across gyaru/genguro outside Japan.
I find ganguro fashion to be alien
ganguro gyaru kogals whatever seem to me like the polar opposite of a goth/emo chick. both equally sadden me. however if the prospect of a legal and consensual sexual encounter is the result of taking one of these things out for a spin i'll bring the paint thinner
They want to go casting for scary movie or apply job to working in haunted house. what are Ganguro thinking to make up like that ?
