Lately, I've been wondering about two things. First is that of the 'unknown pre-production figures'. Take the Yoko figure from the above pic for example: she's gorgeous, I want her, and I'm sure so do some of you. However, to my knowlegde this one was only seen at this year's Chara Hobby, and I've not heard anything 'bout it since. So what I was wondering was, is there a chance we'll still see this released, or does it often happen that you only see a pre-production figure once, and never again? Have you guys had any figures that you thought were going to be released for sure, but were never seen again? Secondly, I always tell my family and friends that the figures I buy are very limited in number. But I've never been able to tell 'em exactly *how* limited. So, second question: does anyone know in what order figures are usually made? 100, 1000, or 10,000+?
I believe that Yoko is Alter.
LOL, You tell your family they're limited in number? It's true yes, but do you tell them that so they don't judge you as much for buying them? lol. I've never told em they're limited or anything, just uber-cute!!!! And that some of the older ones are rarer.
As long as you keep paying attention online, it's hard to miss information concerning preorders. Limited figures are trickier though and require some effort. Tsuki-board.net could work; if you're certain a figure is popular then it should appear there quickly. Ask members how they plan to get theirs if you aren't sure how (once you see that there are preorders in the database, you know it's time).
I also think this figure is for Alter, still don`t see on the official page. Normally ,when they show a "prototytpe" for a figure in events like Wonfes, they announce a realase date for the PVC figure in the nexts tree or four moths, or even less, but if not, well, they only realase the figure on resin, and sometimes launch a PVC version a year later, but I don`t think this Yoko will be only on resin version. No, this figure will be PVC for sure XD. And for figure production, I`m not sure, about 2000,more or less, for ordinary PVC figures?
I soooooooooo cannot wait for that figure to come up for pre-order.
I'm eagerly waiting for your photoshoot of that figure. ^^
That Yoko figure stands a really good chance of being produced. Other figures get cancelled for various reasons- sometimes its a rights issue, sometimes a cost problem, sometimes something entirely other. For PVC figures, the production runs are into the tens of thousands, though mainly the low 10000s. Tooling is very expensive, and it costs a lot to recoup the costs of the tooling for the moulds. I know that the Max Factory Haruhi 1/8 PVC figure was produced in excess of 30,000 units (roughly 30,000). Resin kits tend to have runs of maybe a hundred or so, but they use much cheaper moulds. The downside is the moulds are much more fragile, and as a result, you're lucky to get all that many out of the mould before it breaks.
maybe danny can shed some light on the figure quantity question. on the other hand, american superhero statues usually are tagged with numbers so we always know how many there are.
Correct me if I am wrong .... but there shouldn't be any doubt whether a figure is going to be released if the pre-production prototype is showcased at anime/hobby festivals. The manufacturer is only pending final touch up for approval for mass production. I don't think figures are limited in quantity unless they are event exclusive. Maybe some industry insiders can shed some light on that.
Alright, thanks a lot guys; again some stuff learned ^^. Now I guess I'll just go save up for when the figure is finally announced
