Photo from http://www.gadgetroad.com I see everybody posting all types of pictures on this site. That being said, my question to you is what type of camera do you use? I use the Sony DSC-H10, its a pretty nice camera. Since im just jumping into photography I dont want to get a DSLR yet. Hopefully, if this photography thing works out and when the money is right I can get a Canon Rebel ^^. Any good tips for a ameteur.
Well I'm using a Cannon 20D DSLR. So my advice for when you when you do get serious is skip the Rebel and go straight for a 40d. That and on camera flash suck.
I have three cameras. 1) Sony DSC-P41 (My old one that I used to use a lot but now replaced by camera #3). 2) Sony DSC W120 (I bought it on my way to Europe and it only lasted 2 weeks since I accidentally brought it into the water with me in Tucepi. I have the camera on the table and I don't know what to do with it.) 3) Sony DSC W170 (I found this in Slovakia, Bratislava and never saw it here in Canada so I got it by luck when someone bought it for me. I now use it as my main camera with the DSC-P41 as a backup camera incase something bad happens. It takes decent night pictures and good pictures of my figures, can't complain for the price and the find.) Sorry but I can only give you common sense stuff like check your pockets when going near water or take pictures near a source of light. Also make sure you can take pictures in public or someone might curse at you that they ended up in your picture (someone almost did).
I see a fellow Sony fanboi, sorry about your w120. had the same experience with my really old cybershot DSC-P3. I got a Sony DSC-M1 after that but it fell off a cliff. ^^; after that I got myself a Canon 850is never went back to sony after that. @MrShawn there's an entry level canon DSLR called the 1000d. you might want to take a look at that.
I see I clicked on the wrong post button :/ Well I went with the Sony camera since I'm more familiar with it but still as clueless (if that makes sense). I had the card and PSP so it made things easier for me, and I could show the pictures on the PSP to other people. I see we both had bad luck on that part 0.o ,my DSC-P41 is still hanging on somehow. I was afraid I'd forget my camera somewhere (which I almost did at some Japanese restaurant in Slovakia).
Thanks. Ill keep that in mind.
I have a Canon S3-IS with optional Wide Converter WC-DC58A (0.75x), Tele Converter TC-DC58B (1.5x), 58mm Close-Up Lens 500D.
my 1st is DFC F707 [yes it is a lolicon camera, nvm about that lol the truth is DSC] and then i changed to canon 450 [since the sony is kind a old for now]
I have a Canon 850IS and a Canon 450d (Rebel XSi)
oh just a note, when you do start with a DSLR, just be sure it's the brand you want, when you start buying lens you'd be stuck with the brand unless you'd be able to find a converter.
A lot of canon users around here. I got a Nikon D40. It's my first dslr and I plan to change the body when I get used to photography a lot more. Tip for anyone starting out with photography: It's the lens that counts ^^
I just got this same exact camera. I used to take a lot of pictures with my Sony Cybershot a few years back and managed to squeeze some quality pictures out of it. Now that I got this camera I'm dying to try it out, but I never have the time or the opportunity. Luckily, I'll be moving to Tokyo in a month so I'm sure I'll find myself taking lots of pictures soon.
Same camera- waited until the D60 came out, then bought the D40 with the 55-200VR and speedflash for about the same as the D60 kit. Big improvement over my pentax point and shoot!
I use a Pentax K100D. Pentax have the best kit lens (the DA 18-55) compared to Canon and Nikon so if you're still trying out, pentax might be a good choice: Pros of pentax: - in body stabilization, no need to spend extra money for stabilised lens and you also stabilise old manual lenses (impossible on canonikon) - if you dont mind going manual, the old lenses are very very affordable. Many old pentax lenses are excellent. (there are literally millions of pentax mount lenses) - in general (there are exceptions), pentax high quality lenses are cheaper than Nikon and Canon (partly thanks to the in-body stabilisation) - all models above K10D are weathersealed so you can bring it to the beach and it can stand light rain and wind no problem. Canon is just starting to do this with the 50D AFAIK - many of the best fast 50mm s (according to many people) are made in pentax mount - you know you're not going with the majority (canonikon) so there's a coolness in that too. Cons: - many stores dont carry pentax products so you have to often hunt online. - no thetering unless you use K20D, and I heard even then it's kinda buggy. - admittedly pentax flash guns is lower in quality than Nikon, but the third party ones are pretty good I heard. - right now pentax have no supertele (400mm ++) that are actually in production. But this is only if you aspire to be sports / wildlife shooter Tips: try to go to a camera store and try ALL the models you're interested in. Dont be shy to try the other brand models that you thought you wouldn't be interested in, too. THe feel of the camera in your hand is really important, it have to feel like an extension of your hand. 2 Good books to start off with: The digital Photography book by Scott Kelby Understanding exposure by (name escapes me at the moment) Good luck! =) sorry I sound like a pentax marketer but I really didnt regret my choice on Pentax so I thought you might be interested on the often unsaid benefits of pentax ;)
I feel like I am the only Minolta fanboy here. I have owned almost a dozen manual focus and auto focus SLRs during the years. After many years in a photo lab, I can tell apart different camera manufacturers by looking at the pictures and how the film is shot in the camera. I can see differences in color, bokeh, and other things. Yes most of these cameras use the cheap quality 28-80mm f3.5-5.x lens. Every now and then I see someone using a good old 50mm, or another prime lens. That makes me happy, I use my primes a lot and Minolta 35-70mm AF f4 Macro for group shots and a Vivtar Series 1 19-35mm. I can say this about Minolta camera systems. They were serious on their lenses, but did not really make a great camera body to go with the great lenses. I will not give up my Minolta glass even when I buy a new Sony alpha 900, Zeiss can kiss my but, they are not the same company of pre-WWII. I'll stick to my old glass thank you very much. Also, I just went to the Aki Matsuri at the New Mexico Hispanic Cultural Center. I was the only guy there with a Minolta. At least they wont ask to borrow my lenses;-)
I use Nikon D2x. I have been using Nikon for a long long time.
I have a Canon Rebel XTi(400D). I'm currently using a kit lens for my camera, but I am planning to get a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 Lens pretty soon.
Man, I sure do wish I had a DSLR D: ...or a camera at all, besides my cell phone o_O
Currently using DSC-H9.I'm supposed to get Nikon D80 but when I saw the D90 on the net I decided to wait for it.
Canon XSi just got recently. much nicer compare to the old point&shoot. really only ever use my macro lens
Im using a Nikon D40 DSLR. I haven't gotten anymore than the kit objective (18-55) but is can be used to pretty much everything. I'm probably going to invest in a product photography lightroom (which cost like, 75USD~ (500 SEK)) which will making gunpla/figurine shooting so much better.
I'm Using à Canon 350D (Rebel Xti) I love how canon mange the noise limitation with it's Cmos but I have to say that Nikon Have made a great work too. But I love my Eos. But When I see the 5D mark II Nikon has a lot to do to be first again because with the work made at 6400 iso Canon it still first to made something good with his own Cmos, Nikon had not this experience.
mm.. all people talking about DSLR.. as for me.. you wouldn't believe it.. i'm using an very old canon IXUS 2.. heard that before??? it is about five to six years old camera.. but still it can do one thing that most of the latest digital camera can't do.. with the ISO 50.. i don't think i can find any new digital camera can beat it low noise level in the same range.. unless you're talking about canon powershot G series..
Well, I use a DSLR Canon 1000D!!!!!! I got mine in Hong Kong and it works perfectly fine...
i own a 1000D too. ^^; good and affordable for beginners.
Nikon D60
How do you like it? First DSLR or upgrade from something else? I took advantage for the D60 arrival to get a better price on the D40, rather than the latest camera. Don't regret the decision so far, at least!
The Nikon D40 is basically the same camera as the D60 and cheaper. Its got good writeups. Compacts (any camera with a fixed lens, whether its "compact" or not) do not have the same image quality as a DSLR because the sensors are much, much smaller.
I use a really shitty camera I got for free... but oh well... it's 5mp... it's free... it works. I would really like a high end camera though. It would be glued to my hands 24/7 taking pictures of everything.
what, so many sony but no Alpha user yet? Im new to my Alpha300 dual kit lens. Still learning my way through, with no external flash yet. Currently relying on SSS and manual white balance settings for indoor photos
I'm using a Canon EOS 450d camera with a Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens =3
i find that other than watching animes and collecting figures, photography seems to be another common hobby among otakus. ^^;
I've got a Nikon FM, an FM3 and eight lenses. That's my 35mm outfit. I have a Bronica RF645 and three lenses and the flashgun. That's my medium format outfit. I recently bought a Hasselblad XPan II panoramic camera with two lenses. I usually carry with me a Lumix DMC FX-35 compact camera. I bought that because it has a very wide, wide angle. Most digicams stop at about a 40mm equivalent. Before that I had a couple of different Sony DSCs. At work I use a Sony Alpha-700 DSLR.
i have a canon sx100is. silly camera churns out noisy pics even at low iso's. will get a olympus or nikon after i overgrow this camera or it breaks down.
don't buy camera with long zoom if you are not using much the zoom.. people often think more zoom is better for a camera and they always can use it.. in fact they never use it.. even without any zooming at low ISO.. too much lens element inside zoom lens had decrease the light into the camera..
Canon xsi w/55 and 250 lenses.
Sony DSC-H1 - fell off the table, kaput Canon S3IS - like the swivel LCD and macro Nikon D50 - old but reliable Nikon D200 - very good but heavy
canon 400D + 18-55mm IS lens, or as we know a standard lens... planning to get a macro lens as soon as i get my hands on some fortune lying on a ground...
I'm using Canon PowerShot SD1000 Elph
Nikon Coolpix 5200. Has a nice quality D type lens. Looking forward to a DSLR one day as compact cameras have serious limitations in the settings available, flash options etc.
Canon powershot SD800IS. Was perfect for taking pictures of the cherry blossems. Small and managable to carry all day without becoming a nuiscense. Takes very good pictures.
I have a Canon SLR about 4 years old, 5 Mpx, really good glass. Recently in Japan we upgraded to an 11 Mpx Canon SLR but I find it much harder to use.
Canon EOS 450D with 18-55mm and 75-300mm lenses. Just got it recently so I haven't yet fully grasped the mechanics of a DSLR.
I've got a Fujifilm F20 digital camera that I got on discontinued closeout for $75.
I use a Canon Rebel XTi with a Tamron 17-50mm lens. The stock lens is decent and light but I find it does no justice for the colours. Tips for photography huh... experiment! Thats the best way to learn about photography. Thats what you do if you join classes anyways...
Canon AE-1, talk about old and reliable, I've had that camera since '77 and still use it. Olympus E-500 with 14-45mm and 40-150mm lenses
I have a Sony DSC-H1 and a Canon Rebel XTi/400D
