Just pushed out an experimental piece of code which shows the latest 3 comments from each news item. Use the "display options" menu to show or hide comments permanently - it also affects comments for articles too. The folding of comment layers only works on the top page. Let me know if it affects your browsing experience.
cool hey i'm on there ^^ how come there is a "yes" in front of my comment?
LOL, that was for debugging. Should be gone now.
If you hide the comments you cannot view any of the comments on the posts as well as the news. I just want to hide the news comments so I can see all the new posts. Is there a way to do that?
oh la la...
Ce nouveau format est magnifique !
fascinating piece of mwork there but i prefer the old format as it would let me view more news items at once on the sidebar
oops. my bad should have scrolled further down.....lol
Like the new look... Its cool!
Looks awesome! ;D
This place gets better by the minute.
i dun like the comment thing but i fully agree with you, dannychoo.com just keeps getting better and better. THX danny for doing these features for us.
When I hide comments permanently, they pop down again each time the page is refreshed. It seems like the script can't remember preferences set by user in the cookie. Am I right or there is something else that has to be done?
On my side, if option to hide comments is choosen comments do reappear briefly when page is reloading. However, comments disappears once page is fulling loaded on Firefox. Same with IE 7 with a slightly larger delay.
same here, doesn't really bother me cause it's only a second, but it's weird.
davortech, Preferences are saved in a cookie so it should work. The comments do appear for a bit onload and thats because the javascript to hide the comments kick in after the page has fully loaded. I am upgrading the code of the entire platform and will fix these annoyances over time ^^;
How about displaying the first 3 items together with their comments and then hide the comments for the remainder of the news items. (Same thing you did with your main content) Do think it would be much nicer in terms of visual and usability. ^^;
Forgot to add - The links to an member's profile page is broke. Displays http://eng/category/everything/username/0000/00/0.html instead of http://www.dannychoo.com/home/eng/username/ But it's an experimental code ATM ^^; Keep em' coming!
Thanks for the bug - fixed. As for comment display - that would mean that only the top item shows comments but I usually post a few items at the same time. Am doing a few user tests and will implement final behavior based on your feedback and findings.
kewl~!! xD wish i know how to do it in my blog.
If you ask Danny nicely enough, he might tell you, or link you to a site that can help. Or, maybe one of us can? (that would NOT be me, my abilities lie in the artistic department).
same goes to me, belong to art and design department.. /swt hehe xD danny, would u care enough to teach me please?
I don't have the dissplay option...
i would like a button to expand/collapse items like on facebook
I realised something? Japanese words appear to be ??? T.T Wherer to get language packs?
You can get Language Interface Pack for XP or Vista here http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/oslocversion.mspx#winVistaLIP
Woot sorry, that wasn't download list, my bad..
awesome! i loved it. now it's easier to keep track of new comments. keep up the good work dan. ('~')
another nice feature Danny! (^.^)b
i prefer the old view (w/o the comments) :D much cleaner that way. heheh!
Remember you can use the Display Options menu to hide the comments.
I like it! ^___^ Great work, Danny!!
Ah I was wondering what was different about today. Now you need to add a function like editing your comments. I realized the other day I had made a mistake and already posted my comment, only to find I couldn't edit. >.<
Edit feature would be nice.
Triple that. I made a huge mistake on my first post, putting a reply on the wrong comment line... Embarrassing, and yet I couldn't edit it off. So, yeah, Edit should be your next "when I'm bored and want to make my site even more rad than before" project, Danny.
I definatly welcome this feature! Althought I think its a bit big. Thanks Danny!
I don't like this.
Remember you can use the Display Options menu to hide the comments, so if you do so it'll be like nothing happened
I have a problem. When I go to the display options to hide the comments, it not only hides the comments from the news items, but also the ones from the main articles. Is it possible to only hide the comments from the news items?
Not at the moment. Will come up with code to fix that.
And also, it may be good to have separate display option for the main articles column.
This is alright
I prefer the previous one, this looks abit "lengthy" but it's still fine. =D
