As you can see, the figures are slowly taking over the Gundam shelves. Until We get a bigger place to live, I'm going to have to continue to prioritize which figures/Gundams get to stick around. At the moment there are so many figures that I want around that I even have some in the toilet by the window sill ^^; What do you do when you run out of shelves or display space for your figures or Gundams? Put them back in the box/storage, sell/give them away? Or do you start to buy less?
I've actually been buying less. Though when a particularly good figure comes along, I still cave and make the purchase. I've just been putting figures in spots that aren't my normal figure locations...
Me will put back into box. But apply to gunpla only, coz they can be lump up together w/out worrying about whether the paint will stick to others (coz almost all of my gunpla are not fully painted)
I'm currently tackling this problem. I just got 4 new figures and I've completely run out of space, so I've started sticking some of my smaller/Gashapon/shokugan stuff in storage. I'm actually heading back to finish up school starting in January, so I guess the buying less thing comes into play somewhat too. And then hopefully I'll end up in Japan afterwards and then have and endless glut of figures. ^^;
Back to the box things go for me. Or find some new place to put things!
I rotate figures. There is some room in the attic I can use for storage, if it ever comes down to that. I still have space in my apartment. E^D
aaaaaaaaaaaaah that pastel ink nendoroid!!! I think I sold a doll or 2 before ^^;
PS: Danny be careful don't let any figures drop into the toilet and flush it by accident :P
magical toilet bowl surfing nendoroids?
What were you doing with a figure in the bathroom anyways? I swear chun...you're an interesting character.
oh danny had wrote: At the moment there are so many figures that I want around that I even have some in the toilet by the window sill ^^; for myself no figures in toilet ^^; toilet is a bit too cramped :P
I don't have a problem of too many figures yet. Before that happens though, will be the problem of where to put the figures to keep them out away from my son's clutches.
i figure altitude is the best thing to put between figure and children : P and the fact that your figures are up high is really nice in the viewing angle sense too XP
it has been getting harder and harder to find places to put my figures, i know i need to start saving up money to buy an actual figure case and then hopefully it'll help with the storage situation
I hope that your window sill isnt actually very very close to the toilet...It could end badly if the right circumstances meet.
its not and I get to look up at her pantsu when taking a dump.
lol! youre funny!
Lolols!
Some I put back on their boxes, some I sold, and some I put on my old shelves in my parents house when I visit them. I still have space in my SOHO room figure cabinet to put around 20 figures, so until early 2009 is still safe for me.
I'd probably store some of the older ones 'till I could find more space to place them. Or, if I was Danny, I'd send some of those figures to his commenter, XSportSeeker. :P
One of your gundam's hand fell out Danny.
nope - hes just pointing up.
no choice for me but to buy less. I've got a couple figures that I've had sitting around for a few months in their boxes never opened still...
No choice. have to buy less. or i haf to put them into the box till i haf a permanent solution.
Don't have so many figures like that...>w<
Oh Danny, dont let the gundams be run off by cute little girls. Most of my stuff (mecha) have rotation. I keep key figures out for a while then when I get tired of looking at them I put them back in there boxes and bring out a new batch. I call it retirement. Certain figures go into temporary retirement. Until there time comes around again to be put back on the shelf. My Soul of Chogokins fight with Gundam Fix for shelf space. Its a war that will go on for years to come!!
My first Gundam was Avalanche Exia, I started Gundam collecting pretty late lol ^^
For those Nendoroids at the bottom, you could potentially place them closer together. Just that could yield one more slot. Or try a V or U formation to squeeze some space out of the shelf... I can only see it working for things similar to Nendoroids though...
if i do run out of space, i will stop buying figures/gundam until i make space.
if i run out of space, then it's time to buy more space! ^_^
oh no! the shelf-o-gundam has been taken over! anyway about the question, I usually put mine in a big PG box and store them up in the attic, for some figures still have the box so I keep them there. but am contemplating about selling some of my figures off ebay.
There's always room for more space.. like you said the toilet..
I was running out of space so I went to Ikea and bought 2 huge glass cabinet displays. Each one has 4 slots in it. So now i have figures in the glass cases and my comp. desk
THere's still space for me so no worries...
Well I try to make more space some how...but I've haven't been on a buying spree so I'm good for now...
Put the gunplas / figs in the box, AND start buying less ^^ Btw , nice figure of Manabi in the top shelf Danny ^^
You can build storage areas into your furniture... or furniture from your storage areas. First furniture out of the dorms was a desk of flattened cardboard boxes on top of several stands of milk crates. Only cost me a few askance glances on the bus. Mom almost cried when she saw it though. You could probably use deeper and wider shelves to double up, but be careful of how much load the mounting brackets can hold.
Well since I'm running out of room at the top of my desk, I'd have to rearrange them to optimize the space since some of them are really big. But then I can always buy some cheap figurine shelves and cases from places like Ikea since it's really cheap. I should do that before I get my next figurine purchase... I'm expecting a huge order to come in since there delays at my local figurine store -.- (P.S. I live a city in Alberta where getting these things w/o using internet can be tough)
The case of choice(Detolf)for Otaku's isn't actually that cheap in the UK... it sucks... its costs about £40ish in the UK.... lame much... its cheaper in the US and Japan... I checked.... the UK always has stuff made more expensive.... like consoles, games, dvd's... America has it sooo cheap...
I have limited space in my rented 8tatami (rawr!) size room.. so only buy those i like and only some are displayed. BTW Danny, have you ever worried able earthquake creating havoc on your figurines? ^^;
So far everything still fits in my room, but I haven't thought about what to do after that stops....
I have literally *just* run out of room with my most recent purchases.... I think I know what I'll do. I'm not stopping buying them thats for sure. I'll probably just store my mini figures somewhere...
Woah, if I happen to run out of space for my figures and Gundams I would put some in my car and I might convert my basement into something that I would visit regularly like I do with the living room (secret room full of health care material perhaps).
Actually Im running out of space *cry* ;(
I think I will try to dig a space out no matter what ^^;
i'll move the least favourite ones elsewhere and use the free up space for new ones.
Usually the newer ones gets put up and the older one goes back to box for me.
I love my Gundams so there's no way I'd pack them back up. The only exceptions are my old HG Wing Zero, but that's only because I built an MG version ^^ Starting to collect a lot of figures now too, but I'd try to make space no matter what.. in my dream house, I'd have a room with custom shelves built all around 3 walls, just like how they have in the Good Smile offices!
for the most part, I'd place them back to their boxes then I'll have a rotation of which gunpla to display...
me too started running out of space in the only cabinet i've got. thinking of adding shelves to all the walls so that i get lots of space to put up the figures. will convert my small bedroom into a comp only room with figures and shift to the larger bedroom i have left vacant.
my first priority will be my gunpla :p they 're all painted >_< it's kind a sucks to clean the dust from them, too afraid to damage the paint afterall, they are my handmade lol
Ugh, I'm acquiring this bad habit of making comments before getting caught up, and therefore posting in reverse chronological order. Anyhow, I'm finding it's very difficult to fill up shelves (it helps to be poor).
this is why i try to limit myself to figures/gundam that i absolutely love and must have. but its not working T_T
I only really just got into figures this year, so this issue's pretty distant for me, but I fear it, and it's a big reason I'm trying really hard to stick to just Figmas. That, and space right now is at a premium, what with having two roommates and all. In the future when I get a place of my own, though, I now in my heart they're going to just sort of be part of the décor. Anyplace where people normally put candleholders and Pier 1 vases, I'm going to have Figmas, figures, and random stuff I've made kind of floating about. I can even see me using some of the showier figures as centerpieces at the dinner table. XD It'll be pretty much otaku décor.
I haven't bought as much figures as I did last year, mostly because the lack of space and their price has amazingly "exponentiated" so I decided to choose the ones I really want until I get a new Detolf which I have no idea when.
well hypothetically if i ever caved in and finally decided to start buying figures... in the event that i run out of space to neatly display my figures, id start a massive mosh pit of figures and have them pretty much on top of each other
Currently stilling looking for good selves with mirrors. I dont like cleaning every weeks. Dust is terrible.
Danny, you should give them away ^_^ (if you know what I'm getting on to =p)
I think after you have a number of figures, displaying them becomes an issue !! *btw* I really like the glass platforms !! T.T its nice to showcase the figures, but it gets a little uneasy if you saturate a room with them T.T good thing in my country, space isn't the most expensive thing Xp hahahahahaah
I'm planning on buying a shelf soon, since my bedside table (where I keep my current collection) isn't enough.
I have my MS on a small table to my side whenever I use the computer in the living room. Sine I'm very afraid of them falling to the ground, I put them close to the wall, which means that only the newest MS gets to show off. For now it's the Savior. :P
Caved in and bought a Winter uniform and Nagato to complement WonFes Konata.
well before buying some new ones, I'll buy some "do it yourself" hanging cabinet kits. But If there's no space for my new ones,I'll stop buying and will start looking for new place to put all my treasures (my collections..teehee). I don't sell my collections. Doing that will spoil the sentimental value of my collections. The feeling when I first bought that item, it's really meaning to me.
put another shelf in the living room, or move more mangas to boxes to use the space
"As you can see, the figures are slowly taking over the Gundam shelves." And this is a problem, how? "What do you do when you run out of shelves or display space for your figures or Gundams?" Realize I H8 Gundam and be glad I have a reason to get rid of them.
put them back in the box...there's no way I'll slow down....that's for sure lol
my gunplas are all currently hidden inside my cupboard top, can't do much about it since it's left behind by the previous owner and to make it worse, it's custom made and pretty much a huge chore to dismantle it. I hope to get a wall-mounted display shelves in the future, rather than a standing glass display standalone shelf/cabinet, too much wastage on the bottom since u can't see much when it's down.
