Welcome to Japan

Welcome to Japan
The fingerprinting and mug shots have started - at least the unit looks nicer than the dell ones used in the US ^^;
More video footage at japan Probe.

I read about this, It just happens to be that I am korean having a canadian citizenship and hardly know anything about korea at all (I know fair bit of the language).

I was planning on going to japan, just worried about the ethic relationship when they see a korean guy in japan.

I am guessing this finger print thing is for all foreigners who are either visiting or living in japan.

It's funny to consider that you don't even bother anymore to put Laughing Man or Mirai-Chan marks anymore... I mean... This system had to be implemented in Japan one day or another. I'm quite happy they do that now (terrorism or no terrorism).

I've discussed this in many sites, and I'm actually annoyed about it.

ironically it is meant to reduce the terrorism in Japan, shame that the only terrorist acts that have been committed in japan were by Japanese. This is just a little too close to discrimination for comfort. Japanese society seems like a very xenophobic one.

it doesn't seem to be a xenophobic society the japanese society is xenophobic without a doubt
i would really like to go there and visit even settle but when you see those "no pets and foreigners alowed" signs it really freaks me out its like the US in the 40's and 50's with the "for colored" signs

Targeting foreign visitors is bad enough, but even permanent foreign residents will have to go through this.

i'm not against this new law i mean taking precautions now is better than waiting for the worst to happen and then deal with the problem
and i think that japan is a target for terrorists there are american bases there and if japan increses its role in the war in iraq and afghanistan it will definitly be a target

but the fact that people who are allready residents should go through the same thing is a bit freaky though

I was wondering about that, when we went there earlier this month, we saw the video instruction being played on screen above the immigration booth, however the immigration officer there never took my fingerprint or my picture. ^^

I've said this before; I personaly don't mind to go trough all these procedures. But I think it will make foreigners in Japan look even more 'dangerous' to the Japanese. There's no reason for them to have this feeling towards foreigners, but it's mainly the gouvernment who 'brainwashes' the people.

I'm not too bothered about it and don't really care, as long as they let me in ;p
I must say it used to be pretty quick for foreigners, at least for me. It was like: give passport, puts a stamp on them, no questions asked, gives passport back, move on, next. ^^
Customs wants to check your suitcase though :)

It's a sad fact now that time has changed so much and it's effected just about everyone in the world.

It's a hassle, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Will they still employ the customs heavy men at Narita airport that rummage through your suitcase looking for your stash of Playboy magazines?

I am Japanese.

I'm sure that you may get angered about that. However, I had to take fingerprints when I go to U.S, and I think it is normal that government get nerves about stranger.

Some of you will think Japanese people may become more Xenophobic by this. On the other hand, Don't you think Japanese people are really unique? They have really unique idea which is completely different from you. I think it is one of Japanese good and attractive point.

I think Japanese people never mind that you've got fingerprint or not. As well as, many people will think you are not a bad person because you have qualified in airport by fingerprint testing. If you are not a terrorist, you will pass the test, right?

Unfortunatelly, many Chinese and Korean people came to Japan for some illegal purposes. Japanese mafia imports drug and gun from N.Korea by copied passport.

Please cooperate with Japanese government for eliminating international crime. I am sure you will pass test and enjoy Japan.

Sorry for my poor engrish. 日本の勉強、頑張って!(`・ω・)b
