Original title "Animes and games that've made you cry or emotional" from member Zoniku. For me that would be Gundam 0080 War in the Pocket - why why did it have to end like that?! Grave of the Fireflies was too disturbing for me to continue watching. Strike Witches can cause tears too - tears knowing that you cant have any of them as your friend. As for games? Ghosts n Goblins for the Commodore 64 - the ice palace not only drive me to tears - it drove me to smash my joystick on the floor! I was very young at the time ^^; Original text from zoniku below.I wanna take a minute to be serious for a moment. Have you ever seen an anime that's ever made you cry? Tonight, I can add my 2nd anime to my list of animes that've made me cry: Voices of a Distant Star. After watching Higurashi, I decided to watch Pale Cocoon since most people compared it to Makoto Shinkai's works. After almost getting emotional (I was a bit confused at the ending, but man, the art was wonderful), I wasn't in the mood to watch another episode of Higurashi or some comedy anime that I had (Ouran Host Club, School Rumble, etc.) & decided that it would be the perfect to watch Voiced of a Distant Star. Seeing as 5 Centimeters Per Second, another anime by Makoto Shinkai was the 1st anime that made me cryI knew what I was in for. & yet, I was amazed on how much it touched me. After seeing both his movies, I almost want to call Makoto Shinkai the Miyazaki of Emotional animes. I hope The Place Promised in Our Early Days will be just as good. Edit: I've decided to add video games to the list. I remember crying to the ending of Klonoa for the Playstation when I beated it when I was about 11. That was a fun game....I also got sad (but I don't recall crying) to the end of Final Fantasy X.
I just got done with Kimi Kiss, first anime that's moved me to tears.
it is a very good anime ^_^ l tear up to movies/shows quite often, never really got emotional about kimikiss though
Same here! I almost cried when Kouichi confessed his love to Mao-neechan at the end.
The last episode of Chrno Crusade made my eyes water and there's another but it's a game though :p
Yeah, same here T_T.
me 2 ... god i hate animes without a proper happyend --__--
The best stories should give you a strong emotional reaction. I felt it at the end of Gungrave and Eureka Seven, just to name a couple that I remember off the top of my head.
Oh god Gungrave was so good, and so sad...but based on the story, it wasn't surprising lol.
Last few episodes of Air got me emotional.
I also want to add The girl who leapt thru tiime
Same here. Last episode I was like a train wreck
Me too, I was happy that no one was around when I was watching it.
It wasn't until the last episode of AIR that had me crying at the end. that and the end of the Fuko story arc on clannad had me tearing up.
Yeah the Fuko arc made me cry too. And the last part when Nagisa was on stage too. ^^v
Fuko/Nagisa arcs made me cry too! After the Fuko arc, I felt like the series could have ended there, because the arc was so good.
Agree!
Grave of the Fireflies. now thats a moving anime.
I have a heart of stone when it comes to watching movies, but this one almost made my cry.
errr I cried in a lot of animes ^^;;; cried while reading manga sometimes =_=; the last anime I cried at was probably Code Geass ^^;
Poor Rolo!! (´Д`)
I haven't cried(but I have a heart of stone; so I'm told) but those close to making me cry have been Gungrave, Now and Then Here and There. Oh, and Fullmoon wo Sagashite for some reason. Takuto ;_;
They're showing Now & Then, Here & There on SciFi after Gurren Lagann (2 episodes each week on Mondays around Midnight). Last episode shown was ep. 8. I kinda felt sad for the girl who had to "visit" the other prisoners to "entertain them" by "doing it".
yeah, the ending of full moon wo sagashite drove me to tears. The ending of AIR hit me really hard too.
Mitsuki-chan... ToT
Hotaru no Haka (good movie, but depressing), Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa (after the ohmu attack; the music stirs the heart), Bleach: Memories of Nobody (I liked Senna), the first Pokemon movie (I got teary with the Pokemon and all the little kids around me crying), Snoopy Come Home (I was five. I thought Snoopy wasn't coming back), and a few others I can't remember... I don't get emotional, often, so when I do feel emotion, it tends to be pretty strong... ^_^;
ah Snoopy Come Home made me cry too! ^^;
I loved Senna too, why did she have to disappear !?!?!?!?! T_T
Gunbuster.
Aye same... That is a good anime.
the ending just brought me to tears T_T
Samed.
One of my first animes when I was younger and that moved me to tears. I still hold this anime in the highest regard.
The death of Master Asia in G Gundam.....that was just painful to watch, I almost felt like fastforwarding. Sigh, Tomokazu Seki's voice acting can make anything better. For me it'd either be that or the final episode of Elfen Lied. So nice that they killed everyone in such a sad way >.>
Kumo no Mukou is the best movie made by Shinkai, IMHO. I cried a lot watching KEY/Visual Arts animes =x
Oh yeah, Kumo no Mukou. Love it.
same here - anything from KEY (Air in particular)... but I've been watching Clannad and... same deal. Almost cried at Voices of a Distant Star but not quite. I was depressed, yes.
I think i cried at the end of Evangelion. And almost got a tear at the end of P3. and maybe at the end of Tenchi Universe?
The one anime that made me feel emotional is Suzuka.
Only two scenes ever to make me close to tears is when Chidori was crying for Souske in FMP! TSR and the Kotomi Arc in Clannad.
Yeah those were sad! Except a part in TSR scared me to death while crying at same time..
FINAL FANTASY 7 CRISIS CORE
The ending to that also made me tear a little bit :*( poor zack. Also in Final Fantasy7 when aerith died >_<
Yes, it was sad. =(
Have to agree with FF VII, probably saddest moment yet in a game
Me too.
Even though I knew how it was going to end, those flashbacks really got to me. Damn Shinra!
AIR was the first anime that made me shed a few tears. The creator Visual Art's/Key also produced CLANNAD and Kanon. All three of these series are made me teary. These are the series which I will name first when it comes to this topic.
I agree completely. AIR wasn't that good for me actually, but Kanon made me cry at the end. CLANNAD though...it remains the only anime that has ever made me cry multiple times. And seeing as to how Kanon and CLANNAD are the *only* two that have ever made me cry, well...I have to say that Key is absolutely amazing.
Air is still lacking, characters has more cry overs than the story itself isn't dramatic that makes the story exaggerating, lack of episode is one thing while Kanon deserves a mount of tears. KyoAni will do the thing on Clannad, I have to expect more out of this.
Kanon is the first anime I cried in actually... Almost every episode in the latter half, it was so sad D: I want to rewatch it, but at the same time I don't want to because I don't want to cry again D:
Kanon is one of the great tear-jerker animés. Many episodes got me more then misty-eyed. There is still one more DVD to be released in the U.S. I am kind of looking forward to the end, but kind of not at the same time. E^D
I almost cried at the end of the 8th episode of clannad
Grave of the Fireflies Voices of a Distant Star 5 Centimeters Per Second Saikano
Ohhh yeah Saikano was terrific, but also very sad.
haven came across any anime show that can make me cry. still i can differentiate anime that's emotional. For me it would be hanbun no tsuki .
Gurren-Lagann makes me weep manly tears.
yarr I know the feeling.
At last someone pointed it out! xD
I've never cried from a video game. The ending of Azumanga Daiho on the other hand... *sniff* it was just... excuse me for one moment.
Let's see, Aria the Origination has been the worst at making me tear at the end. Air and Clannad have succeeded in doing so as well. That's all I can think of for now.
I cried quite a lot...The ending of Onegai Sensei, ending of Fate/Stay Night, the ending of Fate route of Fate/Stay Night, and I was on the verge of tears until I realized that I got the happy ending for Unlimited Blade Works just moments ago.
oh, and I shed some tears at the end of Mahoromatic.
Kanon in particular Makoto's arc made my eyes water. Byousoku however fills me with rage, Takaki is exactly the sort of guy I love to hate ^^;;
Kanon ! This is the first which make me cry a lot. When we discovered that she was the fox.
I cry a lot: Code Geass - OMG poor Rolo, Shirley, Euphie (;_;) I liked Rolo in the end.. Pokemon the 1st movie - When all the Pokemans were crying.. Doraemon - Too many sad episodes to list xC Gundam 00 - Waaaa! (ノДT)Lockon..Stina.. Lucky Star - Poor, poor Miyuki I think i've cried during over 50 anime and manga. It's so not like me to say this (;_;)
lockooooon! I have to admit that scene almost had me, however since my wife was watching me had to suck it in. lol ^^; but I did caught her shed a tear on Lilo & Stitch. when stitch said goodbye to the family. ^^
Aww it was such a sad moment, way to suck it in man! Haha some Disney/Pixar movies have the saddest moments... i can empathize with your wife ;_;
To me, "emotional" means me getting really interested, engrossed, etc. That is, when I care about the characters. I'm not necessarily crying or on the verge of crying, or shouting out in joy, but I find myself "bonding" with the characters in *really really good* anime. I find that often anime plots/characters aren't the type I can bond with - even if they're enjoyable anime. Gundam 00, for example, I found myself being worried for what was about to happen to a character, or smiling when they succeeded at something, or leaning forward in "intense" scenes, or being upset with how something turned out. Very few anime have gripped me like that. Beck was one of them... umm... Yakitate Japan for a bit... Kure-nai... GURREN LAGANN. Many anime have inspired me... with many of the Ghibli movies, whenever I watch them I get this really strong drive for a few days to learn Japanese, thinking I want to move to Japan, etc etc. I really enjoy the magic of those stories. I really do.
There's one that almost moved me to tears, but I can't remember. hahaha
I cry to a few in the past, but Voice from the distance star & Byousoku 5CM does make me cry ^^ I watched them 5 times.
Anime that almost moved me to tears i would say Elfen Lied...nice anime!
Elfen Lied is one of the best series I've ever seen. After watching the first episode I was totally shocked, but it made me want to see all the episodes. The soundtrack is also superb!
Hmm, I'd have to add the Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen OVAs to the list of tearjerkers. Definitely played to the strengths of Kenshin's tragic character that was really only hinted at in the TV series. Oh, and another good one has to be Full Moon wo Sagashite, which was definitely a downer each time an episode ended given that you knew that was going to happen by the series' end...
Rurouni Kenshin: Tsuiokuhen made me shed a tear or two. Very intense and amazing anime!! I gotta say that I agree with Danny; Gundam 0080 War in the pocket made me cry more than any other anime!! Bernie!!!!!! hehehhe
Almost cried at the end of Fate Stay Night
I think I cried every other episodes of Fruits Basket. Some of the time it was tears from laughter XD
Boys Be was the first to make me cry. The second anime being KimiKiss. heheh! Grave of the fireflies came close but not close enough. So far those two are the only ones that moved me to tears. For games...FFVIII would be the only one which is also probably why I loved the game so much. No other game moved me as much as ffviii did. heheh!
Grave of the Fireflies is so sad, I'd be stunned if anyone made it through without at least holding back the tears. I always feel a little choked up at the end of Millennium Actress (Sennen joyu), and I can't recommend it enough. It must be one of least known animated films that actually got a proper DVD release in the US.
Millennium Actress was a great anime...^^
Yeah, made by the same guy who did Paranoia Agent, so I just had to see it. Great movie.
Tokyo Godfathers is great too!
