An Izakaya is Japans equivalent of a pub. Snacks and small dishes served together with beer - or oolong tea in my case.
not quite sure if its on the same topic, but i loved going to a place called Watami, food and drinks served there, the cow tongue was AWSOME
For someone who likes a good night out, i havent been to many izakaya's. The sheer amount of rowdy businessmen in there kinda puts me off as us gaijin would stick out like a sore thumb. We did find this great place in Daimon called Masuya. Super friendly staff, people and great food grilled right in front of you! We went there nearly every night - he got us a small drum of sake as a leaving present on the day we had to go home!
Looks like a good place to drown life's sorrows with all the other miserable Japanese.
Danny, you don't drink alcohol ? Nothing against that, actually, I don't drink any. in fact I can't, not because I have allergies, just my head hurt like crazy and get all red just after half a beer ( doctor said I miss come kink a enzyme to digest alcohol). Is it common someone drink only tea in a izakaya ?
You just can't stand alcohol in any case. Same here. Hopefully I don't enjoy its taste, so it's not a loss to me.
LOL I'll bomb my pay check in those restaurant. The food in there so good (small serving though, very small indeed) I wish they got more in here, the closest "Izakaya" to me is 2 hours drive >
i love izakayas!! its always my favorite place to get hammered.
cool one day i'll be on an Izakaya just to eat something there
Izakaya are cool because you can get all types of food, but I wish they were a bit cheaper. Some are definitely better than others. I feel like in America, you can go to an all you can eat spot and get better food.
