Even more so considering its widespread reputation for perversion. Japan certainly isn't perfect, but I don't think this is one of their major problems.
I think that incidence of rape probably are under reported in Japan, so I don't think the statistics are entirely accurate. I'm pretty sure that most rapists will likely take photos of their victims and threaten to blackmail them if they should ever even think about going to the police. Besides, Japan IS known for subway groping. I mean they've got these signs everywhere, it's gotta mean something. Sure there are subway "incidents" everywhere, but I don't see "beware of rapists and subway gropers" sign in the metro here where I live... But then again I do live in a city where a lot of women are sluts. Of course, you can argue that all those loli pedophile games help reduce the crime rate because those perverts can shoot their loads and get it out of their system before they leave home to go to work every morning. I mean there's some logic in that too.
1) Every reason you have to distrust the Japanese statistics is also a reason to distrust the Western statistics. Every country always has un-reported incidents, because it is impossible to have perfect knowledge of every crime. Given that Japan is a stable first-world nation, not some despotic banana republic, its statistics should be given the same amount of trust and doubt as any other stable first-world nation. . 2) Rapist blackmail happens everywhere, not just Japan, and there are unfortunately a million different ways to do it. . 3) Those subway warning signs could also mean that Japan tries to keep everyone aware and alert, which might actually lower rate of rape. This is in sharp contrast to your example of ignoring the problem with the moralistic excuse that "women are sluts and let people molest them". . 4) The whole idea that "women are sluts and let people molest them" is unrealistic and is only applicable to cliche'd fantasy pornography, not to the ugly reality of rape. . . (I'm very sorry for ranting so much about this, but I always find this issue to be quite maddening. People tend to pay too much attention to the easy targets of fictional games comics and television, and in their moralistic hysteria ironically end up ignoring the _REAL_ problems. I find that to be a grave insult and disservice to those who have actually been victimised in reality.)

Tee ball bats are the best form of defense. Small, light, and easy to swing. We have a term for them over here but I can't say it because it is extremely offensive. Just make sure to always keep one under the seat of your car and you have nothing to worry about.

The excruciating pain... That reminds me of what happened during my high school days during Physical Education classes. I like the last picture where the girls were doing high-fives. There may be an undue focus about pedos in Japan because lolis are frequently featured in their health care material. If the same were done in other countries, it would probably be crushed under local child pornography laws.

I read an article (here in Australia, Good Weekend Mag) by a social commentator about the state of Pedo-phobia in Australia. Its gotten to such a stage where a grown man, upon seeing a child who is lost, alone, or with genuine believe in the child been mistreated in some way - can no longer approach the kid and inquire about why they may be crying or alone. If anyone knows about the Bill Hensen Art Gallery fiasco recently ... its only made it into a national hysteria. One Lunig comic even commented the following "Australia - land of Beaches, Sunshine, and Pedophiles" in a satirical take on recent events.
