Hijacked from Jay who shows us his nice setup. Having a look at this made me wonder if there was a way to attach another two displays to my macbook pro. The best I could come up with is to have my old powerbook on the table and control it using VNC - lame but at least I could get three displays in total and control them all from one keyboard. Who here is surrounded by more than one computer? The most I had was 5 a few years ago - all windows machines pictured here. And how many of us use more than 2 displays for our machines and how do you go about doing it? Original text from Jay below.My workspace at home. Very little attempt to clean up. Just 48 of my 79-figure collection, plus lots of goodies (and bills, argh). === 1> Left. 15-inch laptop. About 2.5 years old. My main machine, hooked up to center monitor. Working on Akiko. === 2> Center. 20-inch monitor. To watch anime, movies, and check Photoshop graphics. Akiko on top of purple Mirai. === 3> Right. 17-inch desktop. About 4.5 years old. For BitTorrent and Pandora to free up laptop resources. Shiro Otoko & Mirai. === P.S. Planning to buy a 24-inch iMac and 50-inch plasma after I sell my house. ^_^;
Looks nice! Your figure collection's pretty similar to mine and the room looks organized to me...
LOL, ummm, almost as organized as yours, haha. ^_^;
Nice figure collection ^^ I'm waiting for the day I have ze moneyz to get dual or triple monitors, but since I'm stuck at my paren't house for at least 3 or 4 more years, I guess I'll have to do with this old 15" CRT ._.
I guess, just be patient? That's exactly how I started too. ^_^
Nice collection; and triple screens! Sweet.
Lovely room! I'd say it's fairly well organised.
The figure arrangement looks neat. Is it just me or does the table look very low? How do you sit there? Cross-legged?
I think he has a Japanese style room , no chairs?
Yeah it looks very low, almost like you are required to kneel to use the computers. I like your shelves though, nicely organised.
raptor | hottoko | zephi: Yeah, usually cross-legged, sometimes one leg off to the side, almost never kneeling. === I just decided one day to get rid of the chairs and sit on the floor. Can lie back on the floor anytime to watch an anime, more space, and more Japanese-like, haha. ^_^;
I like it , saves space for posters! :)
my leg/foot falls asleep when I sit cross legged otherwise maybe no chairs is a good option for me too ^^
You're too funny~ It's not like I keep my legs in one position all night. Sometimes one knee up, or one leg stretched out, or sometimes even *over-crossing* one foot to the opposite hip, etc. I switch them back and forth all the time. And maybe keeping the PCs farther apart might actually help the variety, lol. ^_^;
I think I see a Motoko figure I have never seen before, this is relevant to my interests. Very nice setup.
Thanx! ^_^ You mean this Motoko? [http://www.xjaymanx.com/xjaymanx_2006/Images-toybox-2007/xjaymanx_masamune_shirow_02i_sm.jpg] Got it from eBay: 1/6-scale "Motoko Kusanagi Hard Disk" (in resin), sculpted by Yoshimasa Nakao and released by ALPHA, 13-inches tall.
@Danny: I had 4 computers at the same time once, 2 desktops (well 1 dumb client and my computer) and 2 laptops. I've recently got rid of 1 of my laptops though. I think you can get an adaptor which adds additional video ports but the extra screens are limited by resolution and refresh rate and not too sure about the mac compatibility.
nice setup, although there seems to be a lot of head turning required to go between all the screens. I'd put the screens more central (somehow)...which opens up the desk/s for more figures/paper/junk etc.
jimmyt: Thanx. Actually, the original reason for this *wide open* setup, is so I could take cleaner photoshoots with my figures in front of the center monitor (for background images). === http://www.xjaymanx.com/xjaymanx_2007/4000-main-photoshoots.php === Unfortunately, that meant moving my other stuff away from the center. ^_^;
For Danny: I'm not sure how much you are willing to spend, but Matrox is a graphics company that makes products that you are looking for. http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/products/th2go/home.php That is a graphics adapter that splits the signal for 3 monitors... apparently it works for Macs as well. Or you can buy another graphics card and stick it in your PC. They make PCI or PCI-Express 1x based graphics cards -- not sure how old your computer is, so it may or may not support PCI-Express -- so you can add multiple monitors to your computer that way as well.
Ah, I see... macbook pro. So definitely the matrox box might be helpful.
Thanks Lyris - found it. http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/gxm/products/mac/home.php
Wow, thanx Danny, gotta keep this in mind for a possible triple-Mac-monitor future. ^_^;
Nice room, indeed, i like wood shelfes, gives the room some warmth. ^^ Well right now i am surrounded by 3,5 machines. The 0.5 is suposed to be a future Ubuntu machine but not installed yet, i want it to be my new devserv at some point. One is my Laptop, the other my main machine with 2 screens, and the last is my fileserver. When i was 20 however i used to have 6 machines in my appartment, with 6 CRTs... 3 on desk, 3 on above the other ones with wall mounting. ^^; But while i did grow more mature my geekness did lose to my female side lol, now i rather prefer my tidy nice desk with some figmas on it. ^^;
Thanx Tami! Yeah, maturity always interferes. ^_^; When I sell the house, who knows what setup I'll throw together in the new place? O.o;
@_@ whole 6 monitors, damn how did you manage to do work with them all :D I now have 2 monitors on 1 PC and 1 macbook, and I am feeling that my macbook is feeling lonely ;) I cant imagine working on 6 monitors :D
*cough* The reason for this was rather... well... today it's embrassing for me... I was addicted to EverQuest1 and played a few chars at the same time. I was young and stupid... and i did love a ton of blinking LEDs on my switch and that, actually those lights are what got me into computers to begin with... stupid reason. >.< Nowdays i only run a PC if i really need it, if it has no purpose it wont be turned on or even waste space in my room. My "gaming addiction" has shrunk to a single machine as well. ;) I'm a true geek otaku thing! lol
LOL it looks like Darth Vader is playing the air guitar behind Haruhi.:D I only have 2 monitors, the max I saw was 6 which was at my freind's (programmer) place who lives together with his brother (also programmer, must be something in the family). They had 6 comps with monitors plus some others for backup parts.
I have 1 Desktop PC (Celeron D, almost dead, word processing, printing), Notebook PC (Core Duo, Otaku-related stuffs, daily use) and an EEE PC (Celeron, travel use)...
Currently have 4 PCs at home. All of em are desktops =(. Feel like getting a notebook since its more portable and I can surf anywhere including in public places if I have one. Only have one monitor.. no dual displays T_T
Hello guys, If you ever need to use 2 computers at the same time, i recommend using synergy : http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ This little app shares one keyboard and mouse over multiple computers by using local network; the mouse can move freely on all screens, and the keyboard is active where the mouse is. Very useful, available for windows / linux / mac, and now supports a clipboard. give it a try.
I would recommend that software too. Using it here for ages and would not know how to live without it again. The good thing is, that the multiple displays attached to the multiple computers in the network just act like a multi-monitor setup on a single computer. So Danny if you plan to revive your old PowerBook try this software, its way superior to VNC in a multi-monitor setup.
He/She should stick monitors together and throw laptop out
Tis a pretty nice setup, atm I have 2 main desktops (2 screens on Ubuntu workstation, one on XP gaming PC), a secondary desktop for Eve with a screen on a KVM for my 2 physical servers and a MythTV box connected to my TV. I use Synergy between the 3 desktop PCs as well, so only need to use the 1 keyboard/mouse usually, tis very handy. Sometimes I add a laptop as well, but I usually have that in my bag. Thinking about adding a Mac Mini to it, wanna play with OSX but its hard to justify the need. :P
I'm not so good with Macs or laptops in general for that matter...On desktops it's easy: just stick in two videocards if your board supports it, gives you 4 monitors. In that regard, check this: http://fastra.ua.ac.be/nl/images.html Now that is a lot of screens XD. Personally, I use all three plugs four 2 screens + Tv, but obviously I have to switch between sets of 2...
Yeah I Haven't used Macs but for PCs just use multiple video card OR extend your desktop to another PC. <A HREF="http://www.maxivista.com/">Maxivista</A> And ZoneScreen are programs that can extend a desktop onto and older PC or handheld device. MaxiVista isn't free and Zonescreen is not developed anymore and the site is down. But you can find it on some third party sites like softpedia
ops guess it doesn't support lining like that >_<. Sorry for being a n00b
Crowded work space, but very nice.
nice set up there! my husband like more than 1 screens himself lol me, I'm not super used to it ^^; but I do like having extra space to pull different programes/windows into :)
Thanx! Yeah, I agree about the extra space to throw windows into. But also the bigger monitor shows my Photoshop work nicer or *truer* than my laptop screen. Better to compare colors. It should be much easier when I get a new iMac ^_^;
I agree with the larger non-laptop screen=more accurate colours ^^; a while back was looking at one of my graphics on a friend's macbook and for some reason colours was quite off lol! (oops)
Right, u know exactly what I'm talking about... So by that logic, for our graphic art, we should really get 4 or 5 monitors, lol. x_x;
getting more and more expensive lol
Ihave my bed next too my pc table + triple monitor xD
3 computers here XD, one laptop, a pc and a server, one only monitor lol
i see no chairs here, do you work all 3 stations sitting on the floor? I'm not bitching or anything, i do the same thing but i have a little beanbag to sit on. what is that figure next to saaya, saber and ignis?
Yeah, exactly, on the floor with upholstery cushions (made for wooden chairs). I mentioned *how* above. ^_^; === To the right of Saya, is Seras from "Hellsing" and Galhound from "Intron Depot". To the left of Saber, is Motoko and Tachikoma from "Ghost in the Shell: SAC". Good? ^_^
I don't how it came to be that way, but I have four computers around me, and I am the sole owner of the whole bunch. For this main one I am using now, I have two monitors, both of the same size and just next to eachother. I can't see how you could ever use multi-monitors if they are as distanced as they appear in that picture, it just seems like it takes away much of the good things about it.
That's pretty cool, but I primarily use a laptop so I don't have to worry about my number of screens xP
Nice setup! And figures too... I dunno about double or triple screens... I could have them, but I guess it all depends on your line of work or something. I just can't concentrate if I have more than 1 screen turned on. Like I have my laptop screen and my LCD TV, and an older laptop... I usually just turn off my laptop screen so I can concentrate only on the LCD TV. And leave my older laptop at my bedroom (to watch movies and stuff). Or maybe it's just me. Though sometimes it would be nice to have a second screen for videos and TV I guess...
Nice table, and figures I have three displays too, (22, 15, 7) and a e1505 danny, give this a try www.screenrecycler.com/home.html its some kind of specialized VNC server had some who wanted to connect her imac to her mac book pro, don't know if she gave it a go- there is a free trial
very nice setup you have there, invest in a nice set of B&W surround sound speakers and you're all set
If you don't mind running or actually prefer to run multiple computers, I highly suggest http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/ to 'share' a single keyboard and mouse between the computers over the network. You can even cut and paste between the computers! I don't think I can function at work or at home without this program anymore. Some people may prefer just a multiple monitor setup so that everything is controlled centrally, but I feel that once you get used to working on a networked environment, a multiple computer setup is a huge upgrade.
Yeah, *punky* and *woho* mentioned this above. Just installed it. Wow, pretty damn cool. ^_^
LOL U have the tissues in a nice place.
I've got 2 laptops and 2 desktops on the same table. With my external drives, the setup gives me about 700 gigs which I shuffle files over all too often when I dl new anime or erogames... Only things on my desk are cables and hardware ;_;
I've got a triple monitor setup too, but at work. Here's a snapshot: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee222/pulsar359/My_Work_Station.jpg I too have 3 computers in my bedroom (1 PC, and 2 laptops), but my room is so boring compared to the rest of what you guys have.
Nice work setup! Maybe convince the boss to work from home *with* those monitors, lol.
Nice set up! I see you have an organized mess...xD My desk looks like it got hit by a tornado...
Haha, thanx! I'm sure you documented the tornado *damages* with some photos? ^_^;
nope.. i just have a old laptop. I would love a Desktop computer too! But the funds are limited right now.
