Now all they need to do is make some of the cute dakimakura 2D girls move about. Shame you can only lay *next* to them though as it looks like its projected from above. Original text from Coco below. A grad student at NYU has invented a virtual girlfriend. She's an image projected on a sheet and responds to movement, such as curling up next to someone who lies down. Makes me wonder what would happen if this was applied to otaku goods like dakimakura and bedsheets.
All it needs is for some genius to give the projection a voice, and her snoring can keep you awake just like the real thing!

That made me laugh!! But its true. Maybe there is a mechanical slide that covers half of the projection.
probably wont be a hit with otaku the otaku needs something to physically hold. i doubt a simple projection will cut it besides, how can you see it? the image would be at such an extreme angle that you wouldn't be able to see the projected image properly. it's tech like this that proves that a dakimakura is indeed win

Technology keeps amazing me more and more. To think the program will capture your movement and the image will adjust depending on what you do is amazing. I can't wait to see whats out there 20 years from now. 2D girls would be pretty sweet.
Now they just have to make it so that we can touch the virtual girlfriend... Yea...

Wouldn't it be too bright to do anything since you'd be staring at a projector lens? You'd also have to have projectors placed at strategic angles in multiple locations around the room so shadows don't show up... I think it'd be easier and infinitely better just to go and actually get a girlfriend instead. o_o;;
Hmmm, there's a 3d holographic video i saw before, which actually is viewable from any conceivable angle. Bring both together for the win! Erm, don;t count on me to buy one though. =P

I wonder what is the purpose of a projected image. You can't really see a flat image next to you when you are lying down. I'll put this under the "nifty stuff that isn't very practical" category.
