A Japanese 15 year old boy jumped to his death from the 43rd floor after having a row over a video game. When I was in my early teens, I remember swinging the joystick of my Commodore 64 and smashing it on the floor after not being able to jump to the ledge in Ghouls and Ghosts. Via Traded Name.
That's rather... Disturbing. lol Danny.
yeah man suicide over a game? is the world getting freaking ridiculous.
after having a row over a game? what does that mean?
Could it be a its-my-turn! type argument? or laughing-at-your-brother-who-cant-get-past-first-stage ? Could be anything really.
Ive had a row over a game before... damn guilty gear.. always breaking my controlers... oh wait, thats me...
Well, putting the game aside it is perfectly understandable if the impulses he had could be studied I bet they would be similar to other stress thresholds in more serious situations. The boy had not learned to cope with stress yet.
I have to agree, Perhaps his decision to kill himself wasn't because of the game, maybe he was having trouble at school or at home and whatever happened with the game just pushed him over the edge. I think there's more here than meets the eye. I'll admit that I've had times where I've been depressed about something and, as they say, everything happens in three's, these things just pile up and never seem to go away. sometimes it seems like the more you struggle the deeper you sink. The problem a lot of people seem to have is that they don't know how to change the way they look at things. But that's just my theory, some people do get that way, look at the history of the game Dungeons and Dragons. you never know how people are going to react to different situations.
people need to grow balls, literally... I mean, getting angry at a game is "ok", but to kill yourself over it, is just plain stupid...
How much was the opportunity cost of this decision? I mean Does it worth giving up of all good things in life, all new games that will come, for this game. I believe that this kid have anything good wich he could hold his life, than suicide looked a better option. He probably didn´t have attention at home, didin´t have family that cares about his feelings or his opinion. Very sad, but nowadays it happens a lot.
Hell yeah, it's Jack Thompson time. In before videogames are evil.
I would think the video game was just the last straw for whatever was really bothering him. Clearly, his entire life, not just the game was at the tipping point. The row over the game was just another log on the fire. Sad news, indeed.
"I would think the video game was just the last straw for whatever was really bothering him. Clearly, his entire life, not just the game was at the tipping point. The row over the game was just another log on the fire. Sad news, indeed." I ditto that. Well said!
I, too think that the game was just the last part of a bad sequence of things to happen to the kid, or at least a chemical imbalance was behind it. Generally unless you're really disturbed something like a game wouldn't cause you to take your own life, there was probably some underlying cause =/. Poor kid. I once got really frustrated at Tekken 3 and swung the end of the controller around that plugs into the system. It hit something, shattered, and the metal prongs inside somehow got stuck in my hand, making it bleed profusely.
Kids these day what is up with us. Where are our parents!!! Why can't we act like adult. We need to show that teenagers can act responsible enough to overthrow and fix the shits that the last generations had made. I can see Japanese version of Jack Tompson pissing over the video industry.
Speechless! Maybe he was too inside the game and thought tat he himself Master Chief and hop out of the window? Or is it the reaction he had was so big while playing games, he swung himself out the window? If so wireless gamepad is not tat good!
woooww.. I wonder where the new generation is going to end up... "Back in my day..Halo 3 was the hottest game around!" "Dad, you're so old. I'm going to the Virtual Room for a few hours k?" "No. You spend too much time in there. You have to do your homework!" "GAHHH!!!" *kills himself with virtual blade*
Hmm, this is much worse than the angry German kid. Very disturbing.
This notice is true?? How can anybody be so stupid?? Sometimes I`m mad when lose a game, but suicide is... STUPID!!
Seriously.
The most that I would do is to curse and swear and slam my fist on the table. Nothing more..But to commit suicide is far too much! Take it easy, Its just a game.
Perfectly understandable if your watching your brother trying to get past level one in Mario Brothers. I would do the same... argg the pain
I hate it when the day gets stressy. It just piles on and on. I had a row with my mom and I was shouting, cursing and end up er.. well... moaning for the whole late evening after a wasted day at Uni and bus problems... Anyways, Suicide is not a option. It'll probably be a option if you left with nothing in the world, per say gamgling your life away...
soo that guy jump off a building because he can't beat it?? -.-" all i did was through a controller and it broke (to my maximum extent) and that was when i was 5 ^^"
i don't think some one commits suicide just because 1 specific problem. its a series of events that trigger the action. the boy could have been depressed and decided to end his life after the last drop (row over a video game).
crazy kid.... even I won't do that lol(usually just hit the couch.... throw the controller, and umm swear... lol) that kid's wayy into it too much needs more self control
Thats just poor thinking .. killing oneself over a game meant he/she wun be playing other great game releases in time to come such as MGS4, etc.
the boy is,... was too weak i think. in terms of personality.
this is sad news indeed and i agree with what most have been saying here, this wasthe straw that broke the camel's back. its truly sad to see a young life wasted over something so base as a game. being a gamer myself, i fear to what ends the government will go to try to "clean up" video games' act. a sad day for gamers everywhere * bows head in prayer *
LOL Danny... Well you're not alone...
hmm, is this worse or better than some Korean gamers literally playing to death on MMO's? o.O
