Just a test of the new upload function by uploading a pic of my most recent painted figure. Yoko from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. html doesn't currently work apparently, so if you want to see more, then you will have to click on the blog link on my profile. Sorry guys!
Good stuff, I looked at your blog for more in-depth stuff, it's kinda like a small tutorial ^^. I just wish that we had more modeling places where I live and easier access to Japanese products for modeling. I hate buying an expensive kit only to use like "Testors" and have it screwed up by inferior products. Aside from that, hobby shop people around here tend to be kind of strange in the first place, they think you can only model cars and trains. I mentioned that I was painting a Gundam once to a guy where I used to buy my stuff at (before it closed), and he was basically like "What kind of car is that?"
Asking shops like that for help can be a bit tricky. I try to avoid going into details unless they specifically ask, as they usually never have a clue about what I'm trying to paint.I just give a description of what I'm trying to achieve and let their imaginations work out the rest. In terms of the paint, there isn't really a "bad" paint, but you need to know what works for you and stick with them. I use tamiya and citadel (games workshop) acrylics as they are very similar and mix well. If I started using other paints, I would have to be much more careful about how they mix, to clean my airbrush even more thoroughly and using the right solutions (no point cleaning enamel or laqueur paints out with water, at least not initially) so that's why I stick to 1 type.
Gorgeamous. I salute your admirable skill, and determination to do this job right despite the setbacks along the way. Of all the Yoko figures I've seen thus far, this is tied for my favorite with the one Danny showed us from WonFes with Yoko sitting on her scooter. Since I can't paint figures, though, we'll have to wait and see what starts coming out in prepainted versions...
The scooter one was made by a maker named vispo, right? I was thinking about getting it at 1 time, but 2 things stopped me. 1. vispo kits are hella expensive. They were going for 50,000 yen a pot on the Yahoo japan auctions. Only by bubba bunny haruhi beat that sort of price! 2. vispo has a very distinct facial design with sharp lines and a pointy chin. While it works on a lot of his kits, it doesn;t for Yoko.
Freakin' awesome!! You painted that!!! I'd be too scared of messing it up to buy a resin kit... And you was at expo!!! I didnt see the Hard Gay cosplay!! Was he there on saturday??
I missed this earlier, but I wanted to take the time to compliment you on the work you've done. The paintwork on this figure is crisp and clean, and I really like the colors you've used. I'm working on the same figure right now, but I screwed up the flames on her boots and have to re-do them.
