Just a quick going over the new changes to the site. The top page, article category pages ( Figure Review and Japan Photos as an example) have been migrated over to the new Mirai Gaia platform and you can RSS subscribe to each category. You will notice that you can now reply to other comments for articles too. There is a new tab called "settings" next to the News Items tab on the top page where you can show/hide comments and other layers on the top page. The known bug is when you flip between tabs that comments may show up again. You may also need to refresh the browser for settings to take effect. The format of the RSS article feed has changed too. Polls dont show up but will in the future. Moved all the javascript includes to the footer so that the page loads a bit faster but if you click on an ajax tab before the page completes loading then the tab will open in the same window instead of in the tab. Article and News Item icons are labeled as some of you said they were confusing. As you requested, I left the article detail page with the main content in the middle column - let me know if you change your mind. The site should load much faster in IE now and not hang - let me know if it loads faster for you. The one thing that I did give up on is making the site look good in any IE browser. IE is still full of CSS bugs which were taking hours and hours to fix so I opted for making it look "decent." Latest stats show that most of you use Firefox anyway. And for those who are using Firefox, do consider installing the Alexa Toolbar which helps the dannychoo.com rank. ^^; The UI becomes inconsistent when you stumble onto a page that still runs on Nav2.0 but will be migrating the rest over the next few weeks. Hopefully will all be done by May. Still much speed improvements to be made including serializing comments data into arrays instead of constantly accessing the DB for new comments. Once that is all done then member to member messaging, comment editing, and reply to comments via email functionality etc etc ^^ Am currently bashing bugs - let me know if you spot any too. Edit:You may need to force refresh your browser cache if the site looks very broke.
It are all nice additions, but the site is mighty unstable atm :(.
I haven't encountered any problems so far, except that it's a bit slow (though, it's not a big deal for me). Opera is the way to go.
lol @ "Show 2D girls" setting. I can't wait for member to member interaction :> Will OtakURLs be revamped, too? I noticed it was last subjected to spam.
Yes - working on a feature taht enables you to submit images, videos, links etc in one form.
I personally like that show option. And no site problems so far. But now I've jinxed myself.
I love what you've done so far (tested on Safari), the problem I'm having though is quite bad, in firefox anything to the right of news items doesn't load. When I click on a news item the picture shows up on the left and all the text wraps from it's right and down below it. Very odd.
Oh yeah, one other thing I noticed. All the text that's part of the comments on the news items pages is slightly biased to the left of the screen, it cuts off about half of the first letter of every line. Btw, I'm using the latest version of FireFox.
Gah, tripple post >.<. Well I just noticed that the items that normally show up on the right aren't gone... they're in a long left hand side biased line all the way down the page. O.o For some reason it just took everything and stacked it on the left.
not sure if its just me... the pages are loading too near the edges...should leave some margin.. loading is still slightly slow.. especially the verification number but dont get me wrong, danny i really appreciate and admire your hardwork in trying to make your site a better place for us. thanks!!
the main landing page is still in a mess..i am using firefox..
i cleared the tmp files, cookies, cache..bla bla bla... and your page loads correctly now...*ignore my above comments* only thing is the speed now.. add oil!!
testing multi-tab comment...
testing multi-tabbed comments
Bug bashing? Try this... I hope you enjoy it. ^^ http://www.the-underdogs.info/game.php?id=1731 Don't forget the feedback! (always important to me ^^)
Ha! I remember playing this once. Then losing the bookmark and never finding it again...
Nice changes, site loads a lot faster now, thanks Danny!
Making comments still takes a lot of time :/
Site loads looks ok to me and fast ^^ No problem with Opera here ^^
Replies-in-posts function works like a charm!
i like your new icon. i had to read it a few times to understand. the dolphin is supposed to be constipated, right?
Thank you. Well, you're right, it is also supposed to be a parody of the "got milk" campaign.
Migration very nice. I like. XD You seem to twitter quite a lot during migration times, Danny...
Guess things still need to update somewhat: everything is stacked into one colummn over here.
have you tried to force refresh your browser cache?
If you have some spare time, I would love a screenshot ^^;
I think it looks great Danny. I know you had problems from the start. I woke up twice and looked at the Mac to see you tweets. Thank you for such a great site. Feels as if you have less on the top page. It's probably me. Right now the site does load slow for me. Safari being the slowest to load. Just though I would let you know since you talked about it. Don't over do it Danny. Take some breaks from time to time. Like I'm one to talk...^^;
danny don't forget about making comments on the same page too. ^^;
Yeah, site is pretty unstable by a lot. I would say about 40% of the time it's working correctly. Majority of the time the center article coloum does not load at all. This is using IE and the latest version of Safari on my MacBook. Safari seems to have trouble with proper placement of image thumbnails, an example being that the thumbnails near the top are covering our lovely Mirai-chan's face! Right now on this page that I'm typing this, she's crying! Just how I feel lol. Hopefully the kinks will be worked out before the weekend is over. Not sure if it's the bugs or what, but the site appears MUCH slower as well than it was before the update.
the site usually loads instantly for me and also opening multiple links at once, but pics, avatars and graphic links still very slow. week b4 the update and even after, if it matters. like the format though
Cache clear fixed issues I was having in Firefox. Site is working nicely again ^^
Good to hear. I dont think I can get to all the bugs tonite - am knackered ToT orz.
Worked out great, I don't see any problems except the site is slow as a dead turtle. Anywas... *thumbs up*
No problems with Firefox here. comment form is much improved. loading time is still a tad slow though but what the heck.
Awesome new features Danny. Good work! I don't Know, maybe is a my connection speed problem but from this morning Dannychoo seems quite slow at the first load...
The site is working fine on Safari, Firefox and IE. Haven't used the latter two in a long time, though; Safari is so much easier on the (organs)eyes. Love the "Reply to XXX" in the News Items comments; greater interaction between members and a chance to correct simple but misleading mistakes XP Open heart surgery on the site is pretty taxing; remember to take a break. All the dannychoo.com members will be happier knowing that you're not being stressed to breaking point ^_^.
Nice change on the Article comment coloum... But danny, where was the thumbnails of the news section that was below every news article? It went missing, or you left that out? That actually was useful to me to switch between news article...
turned it back on but the site will slow down even more. will fix speed issues in the morning.
Woot, it's getting even cooler, thanks danny!
The site loads a lot faster. No problems so far. (Safari 3.1 - Windows Vista)
Everything looks and works great for me in firefox 2 and firefox 3 beta, especially much quicker loading in firefox 3 beta 5
Looking good ^_^
the site has become even "QUICKA" the site is looking good
great work Danny ^___^ looking forward on your site's future features ^^
woooo Hang in there Danny! ^^/!
I have a big question on the RSS feed!!! Since you change the RSS address, what do we use for the "Featured Feeds EX"??? =(
Oh, I think it works now =P
Big changes on this site...and on firefox the changes make me go what the heck....everything has changed location...
Seems fast than before, kudos for the good work~
No problems here except for the occasional slow down. Keep up the excellent work Danny ^^b
I think it works a bit faster with IE than before. That's nice, because I like my IE. But there's this one problem. All the stuff on the right side is totally in the wrong place. They're all on the bottom of the site. That wasn't a problem before.
Oh, forget what I just wrote. Now everything is in the right place and it works fine. So, no problem. Nice work, Danny!
Hmm, no problem visiting ur website by IE, Firefox and Safari.. Though there were some lag when browsing through the website.. Overall, a good improvement!! ^^
Danny! The layout is messed up on my computer. Here's what it looks like: http://img237.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dcgonewrong2ps3.jpg http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dcgonewrongxf5.jpg How can I fix it? Thanks in advance. PS. 'Tis my first comment. Hello.
Aiya! A cache refresh did the job. Please excuse this double post. :x
It seems to work pretty fine on my Firefox...not encountering any missing articles...I've moved from article to article and I haven't encountered anything of the sort that the others experienced. It loads extremely fast and the random number pick on the comment form page seems to detect my numbers from the pics on the left with 100% accuracy now compared to the last site which was 63%. Nice one Danny. That was the part that bugged me the most.
The avatar uploading system is... I'm not sure what the technical term here is. All I know is that when an avatar is uploaded, it shows on the "Edit Profile Page," but not on the rest of the site. To fix that, I just erased my cached files. Does each avatar, for a single member, have the same name? I'm pretty sure that's the problem - if there's a file with the name designation encountered on the web that's in the cache folder, Firefox will just grab the cached version instead of the web version. I can't verify this because... I erased everything. *cries* It's sort of a hypothesis for the empty pool, but I would imagine that's the most likely reason. The only flaw is that the avatar changed on one page and none of the others. *sigh* Just wanted to yet you know. Oh, and if this is the appropriate time for suggestions, a "comment preview feature" would be nice. Never hurts to proofread, ya know?
The site seems a bit quicker today. Or maybe I am being more patienter than normal.
dannychoo.com is getting better and better! Keep it up Danny!
The faster comment posting is wonderful, finally can say good bye to those waiting times.
looking fine in IE here =.=;
Not as tech savvy as everyone else here, but it does feel like a better site overall. Running more like a well-oiled Super-7 than molasses going uphill on a winter's morning.
