A UFO Catcher spotted in my local shopping arcade with figures as the prizes - Mine Fujiko up for grabs. Do you get decent prizes in UFO Catchers in your region? Mine Fujiko from the Lupin series in action below.
There is never anything good in those machines, well at least where I live. Nothing but crappy stuffed animals and balls.
same here! We have nothing but cheapo dollar store stuff animal in the machine. =(
I remember seeing a PSP in a machine once, but I thought it must be a scam so I didn't bother with it.
Um, it is real.
I want that Fujiko fig! UFO catchers here sucks. Only cheap stuff toys that might be there for months and worthless other crap. From the looks of the setup, getting the figure looks easy but getting it without scratching after falling is hard. It looks like a long fall.
Nothing. Just run of the mill generic stuffed animals. When I was in Japan in 2000 though, I played an 'adult' one on a dare from a bunch of my friends and I won a woman's pair of underwear in a capsule. Charming stuff!
Usually worthless stuff is inside the claw games. Sometimes they have some more interesting things against the walls, but you can't even get them, so what's the point besides temptation to grab hold of a watch or stuffed animal?
Ooh, that's cool. Well, the quality can't be great on those things, but I rather win a figure than a soft [insert random animal]
Let me guess... Cetacean? XD
Dolphin!
I grinned when looking at the box... Looks like the packaging for chocolates or perfume. But more seriously, in the case there (apparently) are such good (and costly) prizes in a mere UFO catcher, there is definitely something fishy going on. Either the participation price is high enough for your eyes (guess which pair and no, I'm not talking about those oppai balls -damn, that sounded so weird. Ahem-) to pop out and roll on the floor after a few tries or that the failure rate is great... Or even both if the UFO catcher's owner is sadistic enough. And I'm not even evoking the case of a pure scam, with Q-Joy figures (example may vary with your idea of worst nightmare) instead of the beautiful ones you always dreamed about. Or am I simply too paranoid to be true.
Never in my life has I win in a ufo catcher so never!!!!
I, too, have never seen anything worth the trouble in a UFO catcher.
UFO catcher in my region.... the most expensive i've ever saw is watch. nevet tried it. it seems so hard to catch it
japan has the best UFO catchers in the world
They got nothing good here compared to those in Japan. I would so play it just for a chance to win figures.
Man, Japan rox!! Hope Singapore and other countries will have UFO cathers that include figurines..
wow, great prize on that UFO catcher. although that's gotta be one hard prize to catch with a two prong UFO.
oops forgot to answer the question. prizes here are usually cheap toys, then again I can't blame them since the price per play for some of these machice here are about $0.25US cent a game.
Usually over here, catchers only have stuffed animals as prizes.
Humm i would need a giant UFO catcher to catch a UFO catcher in Singapore...
we don't get decent UFO catcher prizes here >.>
I can attest to that. The 'biggest' types of prizes I've seen hanging from the crane games around here are bargain-priced cellphones. I agree that if ever a crane game had PVC figures or something of similar value as prizes, either a game would cost a tad more than your pocket change could cover, or the game itself was deathly hard.
Thats so true. What if they started using PSP's and DS's as prizes around here? That would be cool.
Nothing fancy here. Just the usual stuffed toys =/
Hey I want that Fujiko! Looks like HLJ doesn't even have that one listed...
I've always wondered if those figures known as Sega "Prize" figures were meant to be distributed as actual prizes in UFO catchers. If so, then they're actually very nice prizes. I bought a pair of such PVCs for Ghost in the Shell at a local import shop expecting the worst, but not so. UFO-Catcher machines are known as "crane games" around these parts. The most common one I see is called "Candy Crane" where you get a handful of candy out of it (usually a very small handful since the crane pincers are so loose they tend to drop a lot of your loot before it makes it to the drop chute (what a rip off).
Nice, are they 'official' figures like from Googsmile or only from less known manufacturers. Have only tried a UFO grabber once in my life, but won nothing
squee was in japan recently he said he saw this wang liu mei (gundam 00) figure as UFO catcher prize. i got mine at a local toys store. http://gordonator.blogspot.com/2008/04/wang-liu-mei.html
we have a similar machine like ufo catcher here, but no catcher or arms to play with. it's like a juke box or vending machine. a small light will start moving randomly around some cheap stuffs in the machine, you hit the button when the light passes over the item you want. chances of getting what you want is usually 0.1 out of 10. mostly the items are key chains, mechanical pencils and fake kiddy watches. the most prized item i've ever saw is a mini calculator. you need to use the tip of the pen to press the number tabs. some tips if you manage to play the ufo catcher, when there is nobody looking, tag team with your friends, shake the machine until something drops down into the collection pocket at the bottom :)
i've seen lots of different kinds of UFO catcher machines but the majority are mostly just stuff from disney like winny the pooh, mickey, stitch, etc... nothing else is ever placed it those dang machines except the occasional pig stuff toys that are mainly catered towards the girls who somehow against all possible odds can never get seem to get those freakin toys, and its up to their boyfriends to get it for them... the guys however will mostly seem to be able to get those toys... i sense a very evil and devious conspiracy goin on here...
Only saw small keychains in one near my previous school. Damned hard to catch from the looks of it; I never spent a dollar to try it out.
I remember trying to win special Asuka figure from UFO catcher and I came close to grabbing it but end of not getting so in one arcade in Osaka T_T
i got my sion eltnam, hisui & kohaku figure also from club sega akihabara UFO catcher & i spent 10,000 afterall for that 3 items, BTW Danny did u ever seen the UFO catcher at don ki hote plaza akihabara? u can find the most suck UFO catcher there hahahah but i think it was fun, sure there's only PVC figure unlike SEGA
There was once a Jack(Nightmare before Chrsitmas) up for grabs in a the UFO catcher before... Didn't try it though, I thought it was a scam...
Here never checked the arcade.
Bwhahahah dont make me laugh. Decent UFO prizes? They're normally crappy plush toys. Fake crappy plush toys at that. I remember when Pokemon was first popular in the UK, there were soooo many fake pokemon plushies in the UFO machines.
I import quite a lot of ufo catcher prizes and I personally think the quality is very very good for the cost of the items. Sega, Taito and Banpresto are my favourite companies, I would say they consistently release good quality items. I would imagine that it would be very difficult to actually WIN something from an actual ufo catcher machine though ;) I used to live in the UK and never ever saw any decent prizes in crane games, just stuffed animals generally. Here in Canada the situation is pretty much the same. Maybe one day we will get the quality that Japan gets, not holding out hope though.
