Londoners in Tokyo will get a feeling of nostalgia due to the latest strategy of marketing folks - import a bus from London and plaster it with marketing foo. I don't think this marketing is that effective though - most of the folks in Shibuya were looking at the fact that there was a London bus running around in Tokyo and not particularly at the messages plastered all over it. The last time I was back in London, many of these hop-on-hop-off "round" buses had disappeared. The round buses need two people to run which isn't cost effective for London Transport so most of the buses have been replaced by one wo/man buses.
we have some of those buses in Sydney , mostly for tourist purposes or when Australia Day is on though not heavily covered in Ads :P

I do believe they have one bus of this sort here in SG, but inoperable, just for show. Plastered with ads I suppose, been some time since I last saw it.
New classic thing for me, this is the first time I see this kind of bus. ^^ The closest vehicle to the bus that I have seen before is Mr. Bean's mini. I think at least their fronts are similar. ^^

i know it's a double decker, but that's a common name used around the world. there's a unique name to call these only-in-london buses. an't seems to recall. >.<

Yep, it's the Routemaster, these are very special buses. In London only 2 routes ever use them now. These have a separate conductor going around inside the bus checking peoples ticket. It's actually an argument for the next Mayoral election, some want them back others don't...

There are similar buseshere in Toronto. They usually run downtown. The usual buses I see are from the TTC...

I can't remember, but I think I ride this before, when I was in US. That's when I was still kid, so I might be wrong. I only know them as Double Decker.
Saw a London bus in Shinjuku last October. That one was labelled up as a Fuji tv drama bus and was full of publicity for some shows. I'd post a link to my pic but I didnt bother uploading it to Flickr it was that dull ^_^
Oddly enough there is one of those buses here in Boise, ID as well. It's not running though, they are using it as a prop for a business. Still the first time I saw it I had a double take as I never thought I'd see one of those here.
Know them well - or knew them, I used to go to work on one of those! I was surprised to see a (static) RM bus in Tokyo in 1997 which was part of a restaurant or bar - can't recall exactly where it was though. Apparently it's still there (wherever it was). I think there are now more RMs scattered around the world than there are in London.
We had some london bus in downtown too!!! It's so funny when you see that! But you're right, I never notice any ad that is written on the bus.
I want those old route masters back in London >_< especially the number 12, those new bendy buses are nothing more than a hazard and uselessfor London transports since London streets can be very narrow.
So you don't see them anymore at all? That would be sad, will be in London in 2 weeks :0

Routmasters are cool. Bendy buses are not. With Routemasters you could fall off the back and get killed. With Bendy buses you can get trapped in the doors or wheels and get killed.
its really fun riding a double decker especially if you manage to get the front seat (full view) on the second floor. When the bus takes sharp corner you can feel like falling off your chair. I enjoyed this a lot while working in singapore years ago. paid for a single trip ticket but sat there for half a day

Thats right, a converted double decker London bus at University of Herfordshire runned by some guy who passed it to his son.
Its a snack place or small café. Ground, its where they cook your panini or make your tea. Top, is where you can sit and eat while enjoying a music being played in the background. The seats are new, tables are sleek and nice view depending where the bus is. AWESOME.
danny, you should get one of those buses to plaster mirai chan on it to ad mirai gaia... not only will the trooper be iconic( which already is) but the trooper's company as well...

Yep, when i went to London last February, I could confirm that those kind of double decker bus is no more. The current ones are not as cute/typical.

I haven't seen one of those in years where i live. Mass transit just isn't as popular here. Would like to ride on one when i go back over the summer.
I wish I could ride on those buses...
