Maguro Don

Maguro Don
"Don" [丼[どん]] is the word to describe a bowl of rice with some topping nested on the top.
So the beef bowls are called "Gyu Don."
This is Maguro Don - a bowl of rice topped with some slices of raw and minced tuna together with some egg. Do they serve Maguro Don in the sushi or sashimi joints in your region?

Hmmm interesting.... but I dunno.
Is the rice hot? Hot rice with cold sashimi?

I probably would like it anyways, but I always pictured something-don with the something being grilled meat of some kind.

I love katsudon though.

maguro is tuna fish...
it tastes a whole lot better than shake*salmon *...
maguro doesn't have that oily fishy smell that shake has, so its a lot better to have and its more pleasant and easy for 1st timers to sashimi...

And is it true that maguro is so much tastier when cut along the "line" on the meat, and not against the "line"?

I watched Yakitate!! Japan! and there was that info given on one episode. ^^

Japanese restaurants here have the Dons, quite various. They are not too expensive except the sashimi Dons. What bad is that sashimi is very thin. I've never seen a thick one like one in that picture here!

because of low supply of fresh tunas, usually they will slice them very thin. by the time you eat them, they will be already half cooked by the hot steaming rice.

I love eating sashimi, and even though I used to not like tuna (maguro), I love it now. If only that Don used ootoro instead of the lower grade maguro, the taste will be beyond godlike.
