Yes. I spend half of my life in Tokyo living under a rock as I just found out about Star Trek XI - high res trailer at the Official site and low res below. My fave out of all the Star Trek movies is probably The Voyage Home - trailer below. You is being the Star Trek fan too?
Don't feel bad about no knowing, I didn't know either xD. I grew up watching some of the Star Trek series so I know of some of it, just not a whole lot. I'm not a hardcore fan or anything. Your's is also my favorite Star Trek movie though. :p
me is being not the star trek fan.
me is being the star wars fan. ('~')
Same here
Growing up as a huge Starwars fan, I somehow felt it was necessary to dislike Star Trek in anyway without even giving the series a chance. Given how much I love the Sci-fi genre, I know I would most likely enjoy the Star Trek series. It is too late for me now to go back and start watching Star Trek from the beginning, but I might give Star Trek XI a shot.
It seems like there's always these 2 kinds of Si-Fi fans: The Star Trek type Fans and The Star Wars type Fans. I started out as a Star Wars type then moved onto Star Trek only after First Contact(all time favourite Star Trek movie). After that, there's the Enterprise TV series. I even kind of like Voyager too(6 of 9!!!!) From what i've read about this new movie, it's a prepuel to the original TV series a few hundred years after Enterprise series.
I kind of get that myself sometimes.. i like both.. actually i like any sci fi series worth its salt.. star trek star wars, babylon5, and space theme anime (gundam macross..yeay frontier!) and there all good in there own way.. to me theres no pre requiset to hate one to like the other.. kind of dumb if you ask me.. kinda like hating your left leg cause is so simalr to your right leg.. >_<
me is not a star trek fan, but me is also not a star wars fan, still, me watched episodes 1,2 and 3 of star wars..
Me is same as you.
heard that heroes Sylar was playing Spock for this new startrek movie.
correct u are sir.
lol On the wrong movie you are master yoda. ^^;
really? can't imagine it some of the actors in heroes now become more popular
I'm haveing a hard ime imagining the killer sylar as the cool headed spock as well. that's illogical Jim... let me cut your head open to check if there's something wrong with it. ^^;
Yeah, I liked Star Trek. I didn't watch the old series though. Just the movies. I watched TNG on TV.
same here, i'm more of a battlestar galactica and stargate fan. anyway, welcome back FatB, how was the trip overseas
qingy, it was awesome, but awesomely tiring. Thanks for askin! Still getting over jetlag.
me three.. ^^ tried watching the TOS but fell asleep watching one. lol the fat b. lemme guess, you a Data fan as well?
marvin, sure, I like Data. Kinda gets ridiculous though when everyones about to die, or ships about to explode Data always saves the day. He should've worn a cape with a big "D" on his chest.
LOL! was actually hoping he would appear on voyager back when it was still on air.
Never got the hang of it, I am too young to watch those shows. Japan: Living under a rock?
lolz...I don't even know about both of them... In Singapore there is this lame joke: -What's the track and field team's movie called? -Star track
I actually dislike Star Trek, never really liked the whole design and cast. Star Wars is the king.
I love the voyager series too P.S How many Borg queen are they any way I've seen two or three queen are destroy already and even seen the actor act as gust character in the same episode that queen appear
Oats, I think it's because the borg queen isn't actually a person or a single entity, it's acutally a program. check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg_(Star_Trek) for details. ^^
Hadn't heard about a new movie either. Spent my childhood as a considerable trekkie, but interest tapered off as I grew up. Favorite movie was always Wrath of Khan.
I disliked the original ST series, to slow passed. I liked the other series though, but ds9 the most. The movies I found a bit crappy story wise.
I used to be a hard-core Trekkie but somewhere along the way, I sort of just "outgrew" TV and didn't find it in me to follow the series anymore (I lost track some time during the later seasons of Voyager - And Enterprise sucked so that didn't help get me back in either). Now I'm not so sure if I'm interested at all in a franchise reboot like this upcoming movie...
I watched a Star Trek movie once and I didn't understand it at all... My brain, which was what, 6 years old then couldn't decipher what they were saying...
i watch star trek too, but until now still loyal to Battlestar Galactica
I've always been more of a Star Trek fan then a Star Wars fan. I grew up watching Star Trek The Next Generation on TV, and all the subsequent series that followed. Since Star Wars was just a series of old movies, and Star Trek was on TV all the time, I just had more exposure to it. So, kind of by default, I ended up more in the Star Trek camp. Even now, after watching all the Star Wars movies more recently, I can't help but feel that Star Wars is way over rated in general.
I hope this version will be nice cause this movie is produced by J J Abrams; also a producer for Cloverfield.. What do you guys think?
I've only read some of the novelizations of various Star Trek series, and never in order, so I only have a vague idea about the entire timeline. It's still great, however. Not "up-and-at-'em" clashes like Star Wars, more like "let's-all-be-peace", often focusing on defusing inter-race disputes. I still say Deep Space Nine is the best of all.
Not much of a Star trek fan, more of Stargate series, but depending on the story, might watch it.
Yay, another Stargate fan!
Live long and prosper, Sir Danny. Ever thought of owning a Bat'leth?
no hes a StormTriiper you p'tahk!!!
Oh noes! I been schooled! I must appease the Gods! http://eden.rutgers.edu/~avinator/starwars/
Yeah, I suppose I am. Never dressed or pretended to be someone from the show, I'm not that much of a fanboy, but I've been to a few Star Trek conventions with my more rabid friends.
I am a Trekker but not a Trekkie!! Real fans know the difference.
Yeah, but I think the arguments on this are kinda silly, aren't they?
It is important to make distinctions where there is a significant difference...like alligators and crocodiles or sci-fi and science fiction. They are just names but they help define certain characteristics immediately.
True enough... On another note, what is the difference between a geek, a nerd, and a dork? No ain't kidding, my friends have been trying to classify 'em, ha ha ha! I would assume a nerd has more social skills, and can hide who he is.
Sadly, I do know the difference, lol. Star Wars makes better movies, Star Trek makes better series; my own opinion of course.
Nope never did like startrek...boring to me...
I be a huge Star Trek fan. My fav being The Next Generation, I've watched them way too many times. I can tell what episode its gonna be in the first 30 sec. My second fav is Voyager. My fav movies was Star Trek Generations and Nemesis.
I bet I can tell in 15 seconds! Ha ha. I've actually become a big DS9 fan in the last couple of years. Definitely the TV series is where it's at...the movies are an attempt to please fans and a general audience at the same time...this equals failure some of the time. For movies, I like One, Six and Ten. Yeah...that's right...I like the first one.
Nah... I'm a Star Wars fan. ^.^
Could this be the one to break the infamous even odd rule? Also, for whatever reason Voyage Home was one of my favorites too.
I'm a pretty big Star Trek fan (I'm weird in that my favourite is DS9 though), so I'm really looking forward to this movie! ^^
I saw the previews for this in theater a little while ago. It looks pretty cool, but I've always liked TNG better than the original series, so we'll see.
Sorry to post another comment, but why do people keep comparing Star Trek to Star Wars? ST is an critique on the human condition and how it will affect our future, while SW is a fantastical tale of good versus evil. Star Trek is about understanding, goodwill, diplomacy and exploration; while Star Wars is about revenge, destiny and redemption. I'm oversimplifying, of course, but you get the idea. Different sets of lofty ideals! Ah well...I love 'em both!!
Never watch Star Trek, not a fan at all. =P
can't wait for the movie. Whats the deal with the feuding between Star Wars fans and trekkies anyway? Both are equally good in my book though each requires a different mindset to enjoy.
Why can't we just get along? ^^; http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/2145/vaderod2.jpg
Nope !
Seems you either are a huge fan of Star Trek, or a huge fan of Star Wars. Not my case though. I don't like Star Wars that much, and only watched a few episodes of Star Trek. But I like both a little. And I do have the correct age for being a HUGE fan of them... but I guess my tastes were kinda different when I was a kid.
Hello, for those who always wants to fly in space vessel or orbits the Captain Harlock's vessels http://orbiter.mustard-fr.com/addons/Albator.php or http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/ Ps: Orbiter is a free flight simulator
Woaw...........I didn't know anything about it either.....counting the days from now on.....thanks
Not to kindle the fire further but Stars Wars is exciting graphic cinema wrappered in a space travel theme built on a child-like or idealistic theme with everything being literally and metaphorically Black or White while Star Trek is intellectually stimulating entertainment built on possibilities of interstellar travels and all the intricacies and headaches or realities that would come along with it complete with all the vastness and infiniteness of gray areas our everyday lives have. Star Wars is instant eye candy for those who want immediate entertainment high or fix and instant gratification whereas Star Trek is a building of a storyline meant to rethought and relived again and again for its possibilities in the viewer mind. It is entirely possible to be a fan of and enjoy both sub-genres of Sci-Fi cinema and such as well for the fan who realizes and appreciates the nuances and doesn't let unfamiliarity or misunderstanding or other people's opinions form a bias or overwhelm their own thoughts or insights or experiences from enjoying both. There are always strict or esoteric devotees of one group or the other flicking disdain at the other but that is their loss for missing out on enjoyment of both stories or "alternaties" as I like to use the term from one of my favorite Sci-Fi authors ( Michael P. Cube McDowell) interesting novels of the same name.
They first premiered it during opening of Clover Field in USA. I went with coworkers (they are all star trek fans including out boss who treated us to a movie) it was nice to see it on a screen. One issue i see which is a big down. In Star Trek they build ships, but this trailer shows it been constructed on a ground. ^_^ I'm looking forward to summer 2009
Ah, Star Trek movie, I like them, especially the latter movies which features the cast from TNG series. And damn, they kill Data ^^;; Anyway, about this new Star Trek Movie, it's setting is about the very early days of Captain Kirk and Spock before their adventure to space and beyond with NCC-1701 USS Enterprise. Oh and the reason why the starship is built on the dry dock on Earth is because: ======================================= The first teaser trailer debuted in theaters with Cloverfield on January 18, 2008. The teaser depicts the Enterprise being built on Earth, which Roberto Orci acknowledged would cause debates among fans regarding canon. Explaining that the concept came from their own creative licence and the precedent set in Star Trek novels, he said that the idea that some things have to be constructed in space is normally associated with "flimsy" objects which have to be delicately assembled and would not normally be required to enter a gravity well. He said that this did not apply to the Enterprise because of the artificial gravity employed on the ship and its requirement for sustaining warp speed, and therefore the calibration of the ship's machinery would be best done in the exact gravity well which is to be simulated ==================================== http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek_XI
Is a fan indeed since i was a little kid so for about 13 years now
i...(pause)...will..(pause)..go see..lol, its cool they used Richard nemoys(spock) voice in the preview! my fav is wrath of kahn
