Your Details
I'm currently working on migrating the articles to be formatted like the news items template. Comment for articles will be threaded.

One of the things I like on the way the article comments are displayed is that one can see your details such as the anime you are watching, figures you are buying etc. Having all of this detail show in a thread will look messy and difficult to read. Do you have any suggestions of how I should handle this? One can obviously see your details when one clicks on your nick name though. How important is it to be able to easily see this information?

for me i seldom read the details of other members. i would much prefer to read comments without the details.

may i suggest that the details to be hidden and when someone move his mouse over his avatar, a box with all his details will pop up instead? this way we can save a lot of space in a thread and the comments can be easily read without the need to scroll too much up and down.

will be cool if we can implement this for the news items as well. currently the comments layout for news items are very long and hard to read.

my humble 2 yen. ^^;

or like how other forums go - a comment has 2 sections - smaller left for pictures and profile details, bigger right for comments - see example below

there should be an option for showing all details or hiding all details.
i mean after the comment there should be a link "show user details".

best would be like in those forums where we have option of showing/hiding the signatures in user control panel.

Details are... details, and Panther (see above) is right, for if you want to know more about one person or wish to stalk him/her after (jesting), you can go to his/her profile page.
I just wrote about myself for the kicks, I expect no one to read it (I do not lie on that!), and knowing what I do on a regular basis is not really my concern, for it is not a dating site or such; As members of your community, we are much close to each other already, to exchange jokes and eveoking... umm "experiences of private practice".
Expanding more on details would prove somewhat interesting, but I am sure it remains much trivial and it would give you more work.
On a different note, care to share more about (and simply share) the image of the 2D girl there? (LOL... I have nothing to lose on that, as my reputation is rather low)

Don't really care for details (never updated mine... :P)... but here's an idea: Make it collapsable.

Like a "Details" link, or some icon with a simbol... like a paper with stuff written in it.

When someone wants to know more details of that person, he clicks on the icon, and a box with the details opens.

Will probably require some javascripting, so I don't know if that would be a good idea...

But personally, I don't mind not having them. One can always open the profile if interested on what someone is watching.

Danny can also post "What you are watching now" topics every now and then... :D

I actually like seeing those details in the news article comments, but nevertheless I agree that they may not be worth the clutter. Moreover, I definitely would prefer the news items to have the same threaded view, without the details showing, than their current layout.

itd be nice if you hover over someones alias, a little option comes up with 3 choices..or more..
1.) View Profile
2.) Send Message
3.) Share photos..etc, etc

that would also incline to remove the details of the user when he posts a comment on an article. Hence, the view profile option.

when can we upload our own photos!!!

Pretty much agree with most of what been said already and I like Gordon's idea in the first post but instead of rollovers, I like how Facebook shows the details in your friends list. You basically have to click a little profile details box in order to expand the details of whomever you want to see.

I'm guessing this is javascript/AJAX? I've only seen this done before else where with nav menu hiding and expanding.

Feels like the current articles comment format uses a lot of vertical space for user details (figures, animes, etc), when the use case here seems to be to read / follow the thread of comments.

Here's my <a href="http://moggling.com/choo.jpg">suggested design</a> for comments boxes that pulls all secondary user data together in same color, uses type size to present some hierarchy to the user data, and replaces comment ID with something more user friendly "Permalink"

Perhaps some AJAX so that if you want to learn more about a user, clicking on some link (either avatar or name or icon) expands a box with user detail.

Firstly, I think the "registered" timestamp is of no importance. It also shows how I have been a stalker and that this is my first contribution/comment, which is embarrassing.

Popups are good, but I've got another idea alternate to that:

1) Have info on the RIGHT of current display, i.e.

AVATAR | NAME/SITE | INFO

2) Limit the displayed info to (e.g.) 20 characters, preventing spills

3) Users have options of what INFO to display, so for me i might go with:

AVATAR | Hiyuu in Singapore | Otaku since 1992
AVATAR | OCCUpation | HOBBIES
AVATAR | SITE | #1: Chibi Shana-tan
AVATAR | watching: Bamboo Blade, etc

This way, you could probably maximize space of the currently 30% title bar of each comment that i see. Might get abit messy tho!

and no i'm not born in 1992 lol, but i watched my first anime then.
