ANN reports (and was on the news tonite) that Gonzo will be broadcasting some of their titles at the same time it goes on air in Japan - with English subs. YouTube, Crunchy Roll will be airing titles like Blassreiter and The Tower of Druaga: the Aegis of Uruk that you can see in the clip below. Given this news, will you still download the torrents anyway? Thanks to Terence Sim for submitting this.
This is an awesome idea - it can stop piracy for sure! The bad thing is that this way you can't store anime if there are no distributors in your country. :/
thats good to know
if i get min 720p i wont mind, else its torrent for me. (and broadcasting on youtube doesnt stop anyone who knows what to do to store them on their hdd.)
As long as the subs aren't bad, I might actually start buying these titles.
It sounds like a good idea, but all of a sudden I have mixed feelings =/ We'll just have to wait and see whn it starts, and see the responds ^^;
With subs? Now that's a good direction againts piracy. Still, I really like to save my stuff to HDD so depending on the quality, I might stick with H264/Xvid versions. Then again, if they offer that kinda quality on the air date, they could make it subscription service I'd be willing to pay for
i usually dl subbed torrent! So i still continue to do so! 2 reason one my JP sux! I want to understand the full story not just part and bits of it! second reason is Malaysia Broadband sux to hell! U cant watch any stuff online tat comes with higher resolution and sound! So torrent again! oh one more reason! It is hard to find or buy ori Anime out here! All the stuff sold here are bootleg stuff! I bought a lot this anime back then just to get upset for the amount tat i paid for!
Especially when the translation sounds worse then a brain damage retard >_<. I so hate that, that's why I am willing to spend extra for perfect editions but this idea of releasing in youtube may not be such a bad idea
erm, if the quality good then i will support...
I'll still continue with the torrenting too, since I might want to watch the animes again in the future, might as well collect them and burn to DVDs. And if they broadcast in HD, i doubt my line would be able to handle it...
watch it on youtube and if the quality is good, just grab it from there. Else, torrent while waiting for the Dvd in Taiwan. DVD for collection, downlaod for me to acrry along~
If there is an anime i'm interested in, i'll get the torrent before getting the dvd's for that particular anime. That Gonzo is releasing their newest titles online with english subs is a novel idea. would be helpful for the anime industry in Japan. The only concern i have about this type of service is the quality of the translation & my bandwidth of my ISP. It can be costly to upgrade my ISP. So i'll stick to torrents for now.
this looks a great idea but i'd still dl torrent subs not only because that i want to have some sort of anime archives but i don't want to watch low quality video
yeah i agree quality matters ^^;
Online video is too inconvenient for some, me included. ^^ To add more reasons, the titles aired don't seem to include what I want to watch. ^^
me is sticking to torrents... no point in worsening my hearing and eye sight with lousy video and sound quality...
Hmm, looks like this will be a great idea. But I hope the subs are good.
Nice movie...I don't really like Crunchy Roll quality... so going to download for better quality....1gig for a movie is good...
High quality including H246 high def are now free on crunchyroll go check it out
Anybody else think Aegis of Uruk looks like another Samurai Seven? God I hope it doesn't follow the same footsteps....
By the way Danny. How do you submit and article for review. Got one that might appeal to everyone
i believe the studios are using this as an experiment to see how good is the response and to minimise fansubs downloading. when people download fansubs, they'll tend to keep it inside their hard drive and will not purchase the DVD. so with official online streaming, the e studios wants fans to watch it, if they like it, buy the DVD. studio earn profits. my humble 2 yen.
you mean people still watch Gonzo productions? Their stories are like so blah these days, ruining even the best of the source material... Rosario + Vampire is so painful to watch...
the opening of youtube in Japan is indeed becoming more fascinating. Companies start uploading episodes on them, with or without subs. Because people watch a low quality version of the video, they would want to get the high quality of it if they like it.. Well, there's torrent. But why go for torrents when you have dvds and extras inside? That's what they are hoping. and kadokawa anime is already doing so. except they upload only episode ones of their releasing titles(except goshuushou-sama ninomiya kun. all episodes with subs are there). link below is the kadokawa anime channel in youtube. http://jp.youtube.com/user/KADOKAWAanime i can't wait for more. =D
i meant all episodes without subs...for goshuushou sama that is..T_T
Who would download the torrent and wait forever to seed if you can watch it piping hot? But a question: what happens to the cost?
I don't really like GONZO.They dropped Vandread third season as well as killed Rosario, but then again they do have good animes.
This is a great idea. Treat it as though it were a TV broadcast, watch it and if you like it buy it. Don't waste HDD space on stuff you don't like and you get the show almost as fast as the real broadcast. Nothing to lose by trying it out really.
Hope the subs don't suck...
Yeah, this is professional work so shouldn't it be at least on par to what SS and Eclipse have produced in Shakugan no Shana II.
I'm sure the subs themselves will be good, the video quality won't be great though... and there will obviously be a lack of eye candy that fansubbers tend to give out nowadays, I don't think thats much of a problem, but I know many people who would... :P
Cool, def gonna follow this idea. I hope it will develop into something bigger.
An interesting idea. I will give it a try.
Download torrents? Never! ;)
Sounds really cool to me! But then we will not have high quality vidoe/audio. =(
dvds, dude..
This confuses me... if anime studios don't want people to download via P2P and such, then why do they now give it out, pre-subbed, to us? How does this help them? we still get it for nothing, no? On the more logical side, I guess this means Japanese DVDs will now come pre-english subbed, should mean a lot more imports from elsewhere - maybe that was their intention from the start.
Anime fans need to support this as much as possible. I am a downloader mainly because I can't get the anime for years after it airs in Japan. I plan to try this streaming site and give it all the support I can. Provided of course that they are descent subs and good quality video.
hm, this is very clever idea. If they manage to stream the anime with good quality, many people will watch it, and restrain from dowloading it :)
I'll most likely keep torrenting since Youtube is known for lolquality video and CR is known for lolquality sound.
Now, The Tower of Druaga: the Aegis of Uruk looks pretty damn cool. And its mega-awesome they're putting english subs on it. I just wonder though, other than save time for fansubbers, what will it do? Cos people are still gonna go download it arn't they? It's not like we can all subscribe to Japanese tv stations etc. And most people won't wanna just watch on youtube or something either. They'll wanna keep them.
It would really depend on the quality of the subbing. Some of the groups who do subbing actually produce really high quality products, with nicer fonts and better translations than some of the DVDs I've bought. Video quality would also be a factor. But really, if a studio can release the streaming, translated version shortly after broadcast, I would be tempted to partake, given that subbing groups can be spotty in their releases.
But what if someone wants to make an AMV of one of the shows, they HAVE to download it...
If the subs aren't crappy, ok then Ill buy. I have been wanting something like this for a while now so I can show support and pay for what I enjoy. Many times i stopped in my tracks towards buying anime (like over xbox marketplace) because they are in horrible dubs or they are way late. as for you people who want to COLLECT. Buy the DVDs if you want to do that. Geez, the companies are finally moving the right direction and you STILL wont show support by still torrenting. ugh...
No torrents for me! I'm on streaming mode only (however it can be a pain to find old anime series to watch in that format sometimes, for obvious reasons). Like I have said a time ago, it is amusing to see that Namco finally paid a real tribute to one of its most ancient (yes, ancient) videogames... However this trailer means nothing to me, even if it reminds me of the cool intros of the Tales series (which borrow some of the elements of Tower of Druaga, such as the set of sacred equipment and the required long and painful-flavored optional dungeon).
Considering how slow streaming in here and the resolution isn't quite as good. I still prefer torrent. Me was thinking. It is said that it will include English sub in it, but what if the sub is in Engrish instead??
btw, Gonzo is offering high quality video download of their works for a fee. the pricing hasn't been released as of now (afaik)
I see this a step in the right direction. Although, I would like to see how the subs compare to the fansubs groups. Wonder if they'll include misc. details like references (that's from that anime or videogame) and jokes (like those jokes that have no NA equivalent).
They should release it via torrent. That is the best distribution method
distribution...looks like major companies like gonzo are testing ways to save lost money
