Kinda cool and also kinda creepy. Anybody prefer this to a real dog as a pet?
It's so creepy!!! I prefer a real dog!
a giant fly...? I love it. not gonna wax the dolphin over it though
I really like this robot. It seems so much smarter than all the others that I have seen. I would take this one over a real dog... It could carry all of my computer stuff around for me ^_^ and I do not have to clean up after it!
That sure is kinda creepy, wonder how long it will take until they attach guns to it. I still prefer my own protein-based dog.
Supposedly they will never have a machine make the decision when to fire, it will always subordinate to a human (according to the American Government.. which is absolutely incapable of misinformation).
So I guess it'll take about 5 years till they change their opinion? I'm sure there will be machines killing people on their own, it's just a matter of time.
THE BUZZING!!!! THE BUZZING !!!!!
Can't help but see two sets of legs (almost human-like... disturbing) connected to a platform. Very noisy as well... I don't think bug spray would work on it. It also seems very resistant to a "Sparta Kick!!". -Sparta Kick Replay!"- I'd use holy water or fire on it, since it looks like an abomination of nature more than anything else. ^^;
Doublecast Ultima just for the lulz.
I think this is definitely a Knights of the Round situation.
KoTR is just overkill, but yes, if you want to be sure there are no traces of your act, sure thing. ^^
Ultima is cool when you doubt about the enemy's weaknesses. Beats Flare, Holy, Firaga, Thundaga and Blizzaga any day of the week. Even Kefka felt it. ^^
let's try mikuru beam
Maybe throw some meat at it... or ... old motherboards.
Be careful. It's always using Supersonic, and holy water might short it's engine out into using Explosion. Just one question. What kind of power supply are they using for it? Battery? Diesel engine(LOL)?
Please take into account that it's the Belmont family's Holy Water (Proven working on Uncle Drac'). ^^
Maybe an Earthshaker round would do it?
one word...creepy
man, that's creepy, reminded me of MGS4. that's one of the reason that i don't like MGS4
...creepy but funny how that "dog" twitches its leg on every step...
Need an army of those and these to take over the world http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/497/ronaldcannibalfe6.jpg
Woah. That's a really realistic picture... or else it's real. O_O
OH MY WORD!!!0_0
And here I thought they discontinued the McLimb...
Definitely a little weird, but an important step on the road to developing mobile suits.
Alien Invasion!! Looks creepy to me =/ and the buzzing starts to get annoying also =/
This is creepy, but it's awesome... :D The robot is cool... xD Just turn off the sound if you don't want to hear the buzzing sound... lol
As a robot enthusiast, I practically shat bricks while watching it walk down the snowy hill and on the icy road. that is just insane robotics... I never thought it could actually survive slippery terrain when I saw an early version of it a year ago. Only problem is that the sound of its motor(s) makes me want to go into a primal rage, rip the things legs off, and proceed to beat it with its own limbs until the part count > its worth.
I know how u feel man, when i saw the way it corrected itself from being "Sparta-kicked©" and slipping itself i was shocked. The speed n movement was so natural it made it look alive. Really freaky tho. and the buzzing! THE BUZZING!!!! ARGH!!!!11one *claws eyes out*
Wow, so many commenters on this much time. Anyways, I saw that video couple of days ago... downright creepy! Send it back to The Fly movie. :P though the whole concept is really cool... probably years of research to make it keep this much balance.
wow the kick and the slipping on the ice made me laugh hard hahaha its kinda freaky how it looks...it sort of looks like 2 people carrying a huge load of supplies or something. Ten years from now that 4 legged robot will have guns equipped on it walking over countries
Yup, George W already has about 100 of them backordered.
it is cool in terms of the technology involve...but if they are trying to develop a toy...alot more work needs to be done
well its awesome from a robotic point of view but visually it looks creepy. it does have alot going for but then again it was designed for the military. just wait for then to attach automated weapon system to these and it will be a whole new war game.
Interesting. Its ability to stay standing on difficult terrain, getting kicked, and on ice is very interesting. Would love to see the details on how they made this. As far as the dog goes, I could only see it being used to transport objects, talking from a military standpoint (like ammo, your backpack, etc.) Dont know how much it could carry but it could prove useful. What they need to do know is get rid of that annoying buzzing sound. Had to mute it after only 10 seconds.
needs a lot more work done to it, pathfinding and speed need to be improved. and the noise, the NOISE! kinda hard to for it to have any real military applications if the enemy can hear ya 10 miles away with all that racket. i am impressed by the way it corrected its stance after getting Sparta-kicked.
lol. is that even a dog?
When the time comes that robots are used in homes as a commodity, I will be very grateful to people that would make robots more cosmetic.
imagine something like that jumping on u when u reach home! :shudder:
To creepy and noisy!!! But base on what they have developed, the future of walkers seems bright.
My God... it's the first Metal Gear! ! O.O
haha yea! can it pee btw? That would be awesome
Yeah Metal Gear or more specifically MGS4, that's exactly what I thought it reminded me of, too. It's really kinda creepy, at points it looked like two guys with really thin mechanical legs facing each other in a 4 legged race on rough terrain or something. The coolest bit was when it got kicked the first time and it compensated and rebalanced itself.
METAL GEAR!?
They remind me a little of the hunters from halflife 2, I think these would be interesting to use in warfare or riot control ^^
yeah . i agree with you on that one. the monster from half life 2 [-[
actually looks a lot like Alex's robot "Dog" from the HalfLife2 games to me especially the manner flow of its movements.... Dog is not so shaky though. Would be nice to have another way to power the device as that infernal noise is apparently coming from a small cc displacement single cylinder gasoline or other combustible engine that sounds a heck 'alot like of my RC model car and airplane engines... noisy little buggers. Maybe we can get portable fusactors in suitable enough energy generations levels soon to make that puppy a hybrid electric or all electric powered "green-machine" soon hehehe
reminds me some of the nuclear powered A.M.E.E. from movie Red Planet that was Val Kilmers Atomic powered robotic attack pet too....
Oh god, that thing is creepy...
I smell development projects for the ATST... Seriously, when I saw it staying upright after getting such a kick I felt as though there was an extra ray of light in the heavens, shining somewhere. Made me feel like going up to the nearest critic of mecha, shoving the video in his face and telling him: In the next decade or so this guy's big brother will stomp your multi-billion-dollar tank battalion flat. Hopefully by that time they'd have a better option for engines than now. BZZZZZ....
Looks like the MGS4's enemy mechs, adding 2 together.
Wow that's astounding! 0_0 I can just imagine the engineering put into that. It knows how to stabilise it self and where its feet are in relevance to the ground!
One question, where's the head? You can't have a headless dog for a pet can you?
I think its that small camera mounted on top of the torso of the 'Dog'.. OMG!! Thay are making the prototype gundams..
Hmm... a mono-eyed dog... I can just imagine the camera lighting up when a cat runs pass.
if its a mono eyed dog... i'm thinking of prototype zaks instead of gundams...
Zaks? I think they look more like Bucues, four legged, single eyes mobile suit...
very impressive the ability of this thing to stabilize it self is just unbelievable it would be great to support special forces by carrying heavy supplys but they should something about the noise
Oh god, that's one ugly.. " dog ". Looked pretty funny when it went the snow though, wth.
Heard its made for transportation of supplies in the army. Heres another similar video about it ===>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpBG-nSRcrQ
it looks like Wolf from the Beauty and The Beast Crew from Metal Gear Solid 4
EEEEEKKKS!! It looks like it came straight out of a horror movie. Though I have to give it kudos for balance.
This looks like something out of Metal Gear O_O
the stability even when kicked and tripped is amazing. it looks like 2 people walking, the first one walking backward and the second one walking forward. lol. ('~')
I'd definitely get this over a real dog. Then I'd modify it, and make it look like two black beings facing each other, carrying some load in the middle, then set it out at night. That would be WIN.
That was amazing! I didn't know they had robots that could navigate so well. I was under the impression that it was one of the biggest problems that robot designers were having. Maybe that just applies to standing upright robots.
I second that, its just amazing, that even on ice this robot didnt fall. Cheers for 4 legs robots :D
helll no that's scary
As creepy as it looks, this is AMAZING stuff. A robot that is self-correcting, and adapting that fast is unbelievable. For it to go through rough, uneven terrain, get kicked, slip, and remained upright with an almost animal-like movement is jaw-dropping. I'm no techno freak but I know that for that thing to be possible it requires some serious computing power and really complicated programming.
that thing is part dog part evil machine fly thingy of doom
wow, those are some really really advanced robotics! impressive. this brings us a step closer to the future described in various sci-fi. . . i dont like dogs...
OH MY GOD! METAL GEAR!!
It looks like a freaky mutant or a hunting-killing droid @.@
they could at least put a fake head on it. ^^
That is AWESOME! I can't even balance that well. Futuristic technology that is always coming but never here.
wow that thing looks really creepy but also really cool lol. Crazy when that guy tried to kick it over and it rebalanced itself. Prototype for MGS4's Crying Wolf?
wait when it comes to show and tell. class wouldn't be class no more
It doesn't even look like a dog. Look more like a monster walking around.
Great !! It doesn't look like a dog at all, but this Big Dog is really invention. But if I had to buy a "electronic dog", I would buy an Aibo =)
no pet for me >_<
A bit creepy, but a very cool invention. Amazed on how the dog able to survive difficult terrains. The noise is sooo annoying though. Even the bugspray isn't working. This is one step ahead to the world of robotics technology (or whatever). Just add a few machine gun and a grenade launcher or a rocket launcher, and it's ready to conquer the world. But the only thing it needs is a greater AI and some sensory systems to observe anything around it. BTW, is it remote controlled??
