From the looks of a post at AkibaBlog, some guy is playing speed chess with a "my father has cancer - please donate money" sign - more pics including how much he made in a few hours. Notice the guy next to him - they were both spotted in England doing the same thing - photo here where you can see the sign in English. Do you see stuff like this in your region?
Buncha punks...lol they probably play the exact same moves everytime too.
LOL
Got to say - if you think this is the worst crime going on in Akihabara, you've got another thing coming.. Who cares if some Jamaican semi-fraudster travels the world and plays a clever game of speed chess ?!? If you're so worried about fraud and crime in general - don't forget every time you go to Akiba to buy some A.V. products (soft-core/hardcore/ hentai anime) that at least 60-80% of that money is going STRAIGHT to the Yakuza. If you don't know much about the Yakuza, there's a great page I contributed to heavily : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yakuza Don't single the guy out just because he's black and "is lying". Who cares. Small fish. I personally wish him all the luck in the world.
Oh, this guy did the same thing in Melbourne about 3-4 years ago as well, large poster saying his family was killed by ninja or something and having a music while playing chess.
LOL - do you have a link to share on it?
Heh, didn't take his picture, but yeah he drew some crowd to challenge him though. Reimbursement picture for ya
LOL, so instead of getting revenge against the bad guys, he loses time promoting chess? Hahaha, you got to be kidding me. :p
http://farm1.static.flickr.com/23/31363496_5ff03bcd19.jpg they don't look alike
LOL x2
he just lost weight from all the kung fu training.
And qingy shed the light on it (and my comment becomes rightfully invalid).
this guy is being honest http://1.content.collegehumor.com/d1/ch6/c/a/collegehumor.9648591cafd4697808309c1a32ae2712.jpg
*Honesty, is such a lonely word.. everyone is so untrue* Indeed, the world needs more people like him.
yes i would rather give some spare bucks to him than the ninja guys...
They should be sent to jail, presto. I just wonder if their scam ever works, anyway.
I guess it works? ^^; The money earned shown in Akibablog proves it, no? Or am I misunderstanding your statement? ^^;
Wrote it before looking at the blog... But again, maybe did they put many coins in the cap to start with... It's always a good technique to attract more bystanders.
Talk about being on the road to fail. And, " my father has cancer " thing is pretty shameful. I hope these guys just fall into the pit of despair, or something.
they either very succesfull in their fraud, or it's a pr stunt.. don't think anyone trying to raise fund have that kind of ipod dock
didnt saw these guys.. but i once encoutered 2 locals - 1 supposed blind and another the guardian begging for money on Penang's popular eateries... weird thing is when crossing the roads, the blind was turning his head left and right as if looking at the traffic before crossing...
he could have been trying to hear.
No, if he was trying to hear, he'd put his ear on the ground. (I'm making a reference here, but can't remember to what. Sad, isn't it?)
I just saw them yesterday in Akiba with the exact same settings! These guys are everywhere...
They look somewhat alike.. But doing such a stunt is very disgraceful.. And why do they need to change location? They sure have the money to travel which they can really use those to donate to the cancer association..
Play chess with me and donate money because I need to buy the new iPh- oops, scrap that. I mean, my father has cancer. Yep, defnitely.
I see stuff like this occasionally, though neevr of this magnitude or whatever. I've yet to encounter people playing chess for money.
I like screaming profanity at people like that "get a job you f-ing loser f..." and the sort. I never give panhandlers money.
We have a guy always playing chess with 3-4 ppl in downtown at the same time. Ppl said he was the chess world champion n years ago but I'm not sure.
Yeah, I hate cons like these guys. On the other hand, the Ninja thing is oretty funny, and he's just begging for money, but put a bit of effort into it. lol
Man, people do something like this here. Some person got arrested pretending to be homeless. That made a lot out of it too... I mean she got like a good condo and nice car. I wonder how much these guys made...
lol, i think i know who you're talking about, but that was age ago, but i'm sure there's still people who do it
Singaporeans are 50-50 on such; some are stingy to the point of being a miser; others are generous to the point of giving 10-50 bucks.
I'll give them a generous sum of Hell Notes...
Why not Death Notes? Oh, sorry. Silly question.
Unfortunately, it's not illegal to beg for money, food, or whatever they can think of here in Oklahoma, just as long as they don't stand in the middle of traffic or disrupt the public.
At least here when people are to lazy to work for their money they make music in front of a supermarket... not play chess and tell their father has cancer >.<
Geez, the guy even used an Aussie flag in both countries, didn't at least the British figure out he was BS-ing? ^_^
Shameful....just like triangle/pyramid scam...
Hey! They were in Lyon, France,3- 4 months ago ! There was a lot of people around the chessplayer... Just by reading the posts, it looks clear that he travels a lot !
Wow~ That's a nice clock, stereo, and chess set he has there.. Good decision to get those to earn more money for his cancerous father. ^^ What nice and intelligent people we have in this world.
I would just play cuz i am bored. Wait...0o how the hell he came to Japan? if he is in England collacting money why would he waste what he have and come to Japan ?
well what can you say these days, it's a mercenaric world after all where people do whatever it takes to get the meaningless stuff money....by crook or by foot and in exterme cases they giive up the very thing that they value most just for a few pieces of paper that easily turns to dust. afterall sympathy for people does not pay in this world.
From that angle he looks like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orang_utan
I hope such "acts" won't become popular in Akiba. I wouldn't like to be seen as a thief by Japanese people there T.T
Although I have seen quite a number of money begger but have not seen anyone using this technique Anyway, I have always hated people who con money
whats this funktard doing with the Australian Flag?
It's a real shame to see people like that prey upon the innocent and idiotic. What about those people who actually are suffering from such conditions? What happens when you have a couple of fraudsters use that to gain "sympathy-donations," while those who do need donations get none b/c of bystanders being ripped off. Fraudsters deserve a kick of justice in their face. No sympathy from me.
Western Europe is full of scams about playing for money on the street. Somebody in Eastern Europe (one of the new EU countries) made up a game where the game owner can't lose and is sending agents to as many places as possible. Don't ever try it. They will not give up until they got all your money. Except the other people looking at the game to be bodyguards, who will ensure that you continue playing (sometimes rather forceful and physical according to the police). Also it goes without saying that the bodyguards plays once in a while and wins so people can see that somebody wins once in a while.
