Very nice modeling of Exia here. Go to a2crafts and click on the "modeling", "gallery" and "weapon" for more awesome pics. Looking at these pics I'm starting to realize that its not worth buying more kits right now as I'm finding it difficult to make time to make them. How often do you get time to make Gunpla?
yup~ totally agree it is !
that is one piece of work! at first glance i thought it was an MG type of Exia
I need a new sanding material, as well as a hobby knife... MOre paint is also required... My next project is either Virtue, GN Arms, or my Hazel 2, that has been sitting there for roughly 6 months....
wow, that guy makes me look like a novice and i've been modelling gunpla for like 5 years. damn...
i just took a look at his unicorn...and i'm speechless...i bow down to his gunpla skills m(_ _)m
Its good stuff, but I would like to see some weathering.. light weathering, but just a little for realism.
I don't particularly like Exia, but his Exia is pretty awesome looking. The paint job is great too.
Not an Exia fan either, but agreed that this is an impressive job.
i know modeling kits and all, but what is gunpla anyways?? what is it made out of??
Gunpla is the short term for Gundam Plamo which means literally Gundam Plastic Model Kit. You build your Gundam by following the manual cutting its pieces and putting them together anyone can do it, you don't even have to know Japanese to build them. @Danny: This is "quite" an old picture ^^ but still is an awesome job. I recommend you visiting Wonder Excellence and Texas Factory. Wonder Excellence is definitely one of the best modeling sites I've seen.
Thanks for the answer as I always was wondering about it myself.
Does gunpla-ing involve doing the paint as well? or are the parts painted already? Coz I can't imagine doing something just like this taking up too much time unless you paint them yourselves as well.
You can either paint it or leave it as it is. Painting or panel lining gives it detail. Non-Painting is still good depending on Grade. Checkout Dalong.net, He only panel line them. ...Some good and some bad haha
Umm.. might want to say something off topic here.. From reading Keroro Gunsou (your avatar), I seem to get the idea of how fun it is to build a gunpla. ^^
That is one good looking Exia. Isn't there some group in Japan that specializes in making super detailed kit like that and sells on Yahoo Japan auction and such?
he puts me to shame. maybe i should start paint the entire model kits, not nits and bits and i should start build master grades.
Master Grade is where it's at, especially when it comes to kits from the last couple of years. Their engineering has become really impressive, and the kits are just a joy to put together.
read dannychoo's guide on modeling...
This looks pretty tight, the details and lines are all pretty decent looking and that matte finish look makes me smile ^^.
I also love how he has scans of the "directions" and their paint job is pretty vulgar compared to his, those subdued blues and meticulous panel lines really make his modeling stand out. (Gomen for the spam ^^;)
nice modeling indeed!! love the colors. ummm... i spend around 5 or 6 hours a week making gunplas but since i'm almost done with school i'll have more time for sure
i do my modeling on weekends during the day spending about 5 to 6 hrs per session. sometimes drawing the panel lines alone took me hours. i do MGs mostly, 1 MG will take me 3 weeks to complete.
i know what u r going thru doing the lines!! it's just a pain in my....head anyway it's worth it
Well, speaking of MGs, one MG can take me a whole year to finish nowadays. Simply because I'm trying modding out myself too,
btw, what kind of paint/primer/tools/processes does everyone use to make their Gunpla? Or any guides on the web someone could point me to? I haven't built one in a very long time (I think my last was one of the G Gundam models, like Rose or maybe Shining Gundam or something in 2002), but I kinda wanted to pick it up again. Mine always turned out okay, just not anything picture-worthy ^^;.
Danny's got an excellent article on Gunpla modeling floating around the site. It's a good place to start. As for paints, I use the official "Gundam" brand when I can find it in the colors I want, and Tamiya for everything else.
um the gundam brand is BANDAI ^^
When the mojo's going, I'll probably spend two or three hours modeling every day. Lately I've been lagging a bit, doing an hour every few days. We'll see how it goes when I have to head back to the States, though... Goodbye free time.
its plastc is soooooo... the way i want5 my armored core to be like
armored core plastic model it is i meant
Aah, sweet stuff! Don't own a single gundam and have never been interested in Gunpla but boy it seems pretty neat. =_=
Ah yes... I check his gallery all the time. Great work, I really like his HG Blue Destiny 03. I want to see the GM Sniper II hes working on. Check out Keita's site: www.wonderexcellence.com Amazing work from Keita, you can really see how working/practicing on many kits improves your Gunpla skills. Sadly, I work too much. I rarely get time to build Gunpla, yet still have time to buy them... (._.')
Wow that is a very nice model. Well done. I have a specific room for modeling as well as sculpting, so when I get the time like during weekends I would continue making my kits and sculpting customized parts for my gundam. Just finished my Freedom Full burst, but unfortunately I cant show it because registration for figure.fm is down >:|
The paint job is A++. I could never reach that level. ><
yeah, I knew of this site. The guy does amazing jobs on the customizations of the general kits. His Hi-Nu Gundam is especially sexy
It takes me quiet a bit of time to build one with school and work always getting in the way. I plan on getting the 1/144 scale Dendrobium model within a couple weeks so god knows how long that one will take me.
Simply impressive.
Don't have time at all for gunpla. The last time I built gundam was like 10 years ago?
depend on mood, i could clear a MG in like 15 hour. but hey, my stupid school just doesn't give enough amount of homework, or nearly never, so i have alot of spare time in house. as for inking, it could 2 week, or less as for painting... could be month, since i had to go to my joint for painting, can't buy small compressor until 2009
From a neutral standpoint, it is certainly impressive to see such detail and hard work being put into a gunpla. But from a personal standpoint, I've realized that it's "too much detail" and it doesn't look great. Still have to admire him for his excellent work though.
yes i agree with u on the too much details part. i think the modeler put too many stickers/decals on it.
I can see where you're going, but as a gundam professional painter and sculptor, I would have to disagree with you. Depending on how you want to display your gundam, plain or advanced. I prefer to finish my projects with detail, making it distinguished from other professional gundam builders. Also it gives life and customization. I think customization is what attracts people to comment on the gundam, plain ones don't get too much attention as they are built "in general". But perhaps your view on things are different. But I think this gundam looks marvelous =)
The dude literally built the Exia from scratch; I bow down to his superior modelling skills. I only do 1/100 gradeless kits, and even then I take about a week to finish them.
Surprisingly, I have not made any time to make the Strike Freedom I bought months ago. I tend to buy just 1 at a time. I really aught to make some time for it (Even though my skills are no where near the average gunpla builder. I'm a horrible painter so there's usually that little sense of realism lacking in my models (Bubble-wrap Gundam? Fresh out of the box.)
About 2 years ago, I have finish collected about the whole set of gundams from gundam seed and gundam seed destiny which I have quit collecting some time ago. But I only build them up without modeling it as first is that I find no time and second is that I am scare of destroying it.
the paint job on that MG Exia is freaking awesome ^^
unfortunately MG Exia doesn't exist
I hope that I'm able to finish my HG Eva 01 tomorrow (My first kit ever), I think it did turn out quite good this far ^^
had this post here on a guy who did a SD Unicorn mod and it going off in Yahoo! Auction right now which ends today, Mar 16. See the auction page here Current bid for it when I check back while commenting was 35,000Yen with 12hrs remaining till bid closes. Check his site gallery for the rest of his work.
Thankyou for the link! Thats one pro modeller in SD. :]
