Member DRAGUN reports on a bed that retracts to the ceiling thus saving a lot of space when not in use. Me was thinking that it could be possible to hide a Candy Girl up there... More pics at Gizmodo.
Kinda neat, though that bed looks rather short.
Yeah, and just when having a large one should have been possible with this space-efficient method. >_<
nice. though the sturdiness is a concern.
but it's pure win yeah?
Well, it's more like 50/50.. innovative yet dangerous in a way.. You might just drop to the ground very hard if you don't position yourself well still..
Yep, it doesn't look like it can support heavy weights ^^'
i have always thought of this idea but my sis told mi it was impractical....seems like she was wrong xD
spedtron, I think your sis is still right. Were do they keep the motors to lift the bed? Plus, you'd probably gethave feeling of impending doom about having the bed fall on you.
i really wanted to type that down on the comment but oh well lol. beware of the bed that might crush you while your working on the desk. seriously [_[
I would hate myself from falling off that bed..
I bed that would be hard if you AND your spouse had to sleep in that bed together... especially if it gets a little *cough cough* intense, Im not so sure that bed would still be standing...
Wont it like drop ? A mattress is heavy after all.
wow! thise looks neat and a space saver ^___^ and yes, it's a perfect place to hide your Candy Doll XD so ronery XD
Imagine after failing to satisfy your partner, she gets off the bed, presses a button and sends the bed up with you on it. After you're stuck, she says "You stay there and reflect on it for the rest of the day!!" and stomps out the room with your credit card. *shivers* No I don't want this bed ever! Its sure is an interesting concept though, but I think a sofa bed would be more practical (and also alot more sturdy ^^).
Actually, that was the first thing I thought. Even if the bed is cool and kind of useful, it's just to dangerous :P I mean, if a thief gets into your house while yer sleeping, all he have to do is press a button and you won't be able to do anything >__< And since your up there, it's possible that no one finds you for a very long time >__<
I am sure if there is a motor, it wouldn't be designed to be able to lift a person. Not sure about children. I am sure they would have some kind of safety mechanism though.
What I can't figure out is where those supports to the ceiling and floor came from. The ceiling ones might've just extended straight up - waste of space, but possible. But where the heck did that L-shaped piece of wood touching the floor come from? I can't see it anywhere in the "before" picture.
Probably roughly attached after its already down. There are screws connecting them into the bed, so it's not likely that they came pre-attached as you would hit your head on them when walking by while its up. But as to where they are, no idea
That sounds right, I guess - the roughly attached thing. The whole appeal of a bed goes down though, when you can't immediately throw yourself into it after a long day.
what happens when the bed falls on your head while working because of some loose screws or something? lol
The bed is actually pretty high O.o I wonder how you climb up there and sleep.
Well what if it dropped and fell on your head?! The headlines would read "Man killed by falling bed"
that will come in handy if u use a WII in a small bedroom. lol =03
Using the Wii on your bed is rather fun sometimes. I guess it all depends on the game.
Not as practical as it claims as the area underneath still needs to be clear so you can get on and off the bed safely, but if you have foldable tables and whatnot, it could be really good!
dont people worry that it might fall on you while you sit under it like that?
At first I thought it was a booby trap. Seriously, all it needs is spikes and it's a device of your impending doom. Maybe this bed will be in the new Indiana Jones movie?
most japaneses sleep on Tatami mats on the floor no?
Cheap and very convinient...Futon??
ah yes. Futon is the correct word not tatami, my bad. ^^
Tatami? Haiyahhhh~! (Think Judo, Karate, Kendo, etc.)
Ok, i still haven't got the point of this.
i just can't imagine that whole bed falling if you were just waxing your dolphins half way in front of the computer..
That really would turn you off (want it or not). ^^;;;
"Man killed by falling bed while waxing his dolphin." That would be somewhat funny and scary at the same time...
So I have to clean up my deck before I go to sleep? No way man XD
dangerous! do not want LOL
I would be too scared to work under the bed in fear of it falling down on me... And how would one able to push back up to ceiling after using it? Seems little cubbersome to save some space >_<
I think it will not work with sleepy people(include me XD) Wake up in the mid of night and forget that you are a few meters a up of floor will cause accidents XD~~
Perfect for hide n' seek... Maybe not really in fact. I prefer regular beds, Thank you. The gain of space is minimal anyway.
Would you prefer a bed that sank into the ground?
Oh hell yeah, that would be so great. Push on a button and the floor would open and your bed be magically hovering... That would be extraordinary. Just don't stand on your bed when it returns underground, otherwise you'd end with a bad surprise: "Oh, no! It's a TRAP!" A regular trap, though. Don't get me wrong. ^^;
@D_Blade, I thought you would appreciate the French in the Picture. Lol. You have to admit it would be cool to make things disappear into the walls when you dont want them.
"You annoying painting/mirror, I don't want to see you today! Get back to your wall! You're punished until further notice!" That would be sweeeeet. And I don't see myself tripping on "day" and "night". If you felt I'd be all warm and fuzzy seeing French here, you're most mistaken. ^^ Just jesting, once again.
I'm seeing a lot of comments about how this could be dangerous and such but really, no one would build something like this without a lot of features built in, fail safes, braking systems, spring loaded everything. I think it *could* be very safe and convenient... just don't know about this model because I can't read French on the main site :(.
Are you saying you don't trust the French?
Not at all. :p I'm just saying that since I can't read what features and such it has I can't say whether or not, in my opinion, the bed is safe. If I were to design one of these I would create redundant fail safe systems and it would be hydraulically controlled with fail safes for hydraulic failure, leakage, etc.
Need a translation? lol.
(error in comment as it sounded rude, sorry)
Need a translator? I could interpret it... For a price. Joking for the last part.
If the bed does happen to fall on you, what would you say to your teacher/boss about your absence the next day ?(assumed you're still breathing)
when asked about your injury, "i feel off the bed" will now become "my bed fell on me"
Wonder to what extent one's boss would believe the guy/girl on his/her claims if it ever happened. ^^
That looks so cool. Sleeping on air. I hope your not a wild sleeper! :)
Its not the wildness in my sleep, it the wildness in... well you know. Pillow Fights!
Nice....but wat if the bed suddenly drop and hit my head!!!
You will get amnesia and Nagi-san from Hayate No Gotoku will hire you as a butler..
Noooo!!!...but is that really bad?!
Saw it on Gizmodo. Along with that office in a box, container home, bedroom in a box, smallest living space in a box and some other stuff I've seen... one could eventually live... in a box. But all those are still lacking the cuteness of that flash video with a kitten in a box.
it's a neat idea (and actually looks kind of cool), but honestly I don't think I'd feel particularly comfortable knowing there's a big wooden panel and matress suspended over my head during the day. It's just asking for trouble, y'know?
That's rather pratical use of space! But I wonder, doesn't it get annoying to pull down/up the bed after a 100 times? Well, who knows.
sugoi~~ this would be great for my tiny bedroom...
Neat! But no "wlld" actions up there though...
Gonna brake a bone if you fell off one of those in a sleep.. Srsly
Interesting take on the Murphy Bed concept... though if you're going to hid a Candy Girl in there you might want the one over at Apartment Therapy/Unpluggd with the fake ceiling around it. As for practicality, I don't think it's a problem. It really doesn't take much effort to make you bed as soon as you get out, and rolling it up into the roof would be the work of seconds. That said: it might be a bit difficult after a night on the town and probably not really that crash hot for renters eitehr.
looks cool, though you gotta be careful not to activate the switch while doing you and your partner are doing carnal calisthenics.
Looks a bit too fragile when deployed. If it falls when you're on it, not only is it going to cost you a sleepless night and a few thousand Sing. dollars, if your workdesk is down there the laptop suffers too... O_O
Something cool here.^^ But I will not take the risk of putting a bed on top of my head unless there is a safty mechanical lock that can make sure it does not drop.
We had a lot in our rooms in my university campus. The student rooms were 6m² so lot of people made mezzanine to put their bed up and gain space for the daily life. Not very difficult to do with boards of wood, screw and drill. But not moving though...
it's a nice one but i doubt if it can support anyone more than 150 or maybe even less... the guy's thin lol...
