I thought this was going to be a parody or fan made vid for I Am Legend but its not - its official. The thing is, a clip of this alternate ending was used in the Japanese commerials over here. I prefer this ending. Thanks to member FatB for alerting us to this.
This ending made a bit more sense to me. Showed the creatures weren't just bloodthristy beasts, and that there was reason for its hostility. Typical hollywood though to have its hero go out in a blaze of glory. Prepare for GLORY!!
I agree, I watched this last night, and I think that this was actually a better ending. I got really tired of the "Mummy" Jaw opening so wide, but other than that.. good movie. I think they should have went with this ending, why would you want to save horrible beasts?

i think this ending coincides better with the story in the book. * spoiler alert * that the vampires are the next step in the evolution and that will smith's character is a legend as he is one of the last of our kind in the beginning of a new age, thus the title.
i kinda agree with you on that, but the current ending also shows the same thing in that he found a cure, thus being a legend, because i believe the monsters will still attack humans because how did the virus spread in the first place?
The thing is though, wasn't it in the books that Dr. Nevell became the "last" human being on the planet, hence the reason why he's a legend? In the movie, he had the boy and the girl with him.

It kind of kills the point of the name of the movie though. They should have just called it "I am Will Smith".
This isn't correct. *spoilers* Neville in the novel was killing the vampire creatures when they were sleeping during the day time because they reverted to a more docile state. The new society of creatures became terrified of this monster, Neville, who would come into their homes and kill them cold bloodedly. Neville was doing it out of hatred and fear for the creatures and thinking only of himself, without really realizing that they have formed their own society. In the end he is caught by hunters of the society for his crimes and given the chose of suicide or execution. Neville chooses suicide because he realizes he was the monster all along and that he became The Legend that the vampires feared, just as humans feared the legends of vampires in the past. So he realized he was the legend due to his crimes, not because he was the only human left.
yup this endding is better than Will Smith blowing himself up.

Nice! I dont think it was as satisfying as the actual ending though. Im a sucker for films where the hero dies at the end. If he lived, then how would he become 'legend' like in the title? This good ending was a bit too conventional and lovey dovey for my bleak tastes. Nice CG though - im surprised they did that much extra effects for an ending that wasnt used. Heh - its kinda like the waynes world good and bad endings!
even monsters need love that way even human and monsters can be friends. why are you all fighting against each other out there...cant you see we can live together peacefully??!!

I don't know, if they weren't to go with the original ending of the novel, I think I prefer the regular ending of the movie. One thing that wouldn't really make sens with that ending is, why if they were rather bloody thirsty up to that point would they stop been so after he release the girl? That would feel like a plot hole to me. ^^;
it shows they have evolved beyond that up to that point they only started attacking Will Smith's character more violently after he stole the girl
As others have said... I'd rather have the book's original ending that works with the title, "I Am Legend". To be honest, I don't like either of these new film endings

The previews I watched showed the scenes from this clip (no wonder I couldn't find it in the actual movie). But truthfully, I preferred the movie ending, in order to seal the fact that he IS the Legend.
wow this ending is great... i liked the 1st but i luv this ending... the 1st ending tells why this movie is called i am legend... was actually hoping for the original ending to end like this but it didn't... its good to have this ending...

maybe the director just think tat if the hero does not die! The tittle of the show aint gonig to be right! I AM LEGEND! How would he be a legend if he did not did something big in the end?

Yeah, you are right, they did show part from alternative ending's clip on the commercial, I was wondering why it wasn't in the movie itself lol.
I like the alternative ending better. I personally prefer happier ending than where main character *bleep for spoliler prevention* at the end ^^;
Not wanting to sound like an insensitive person but I find this ending distasteful. I prefer the original ending, else it would be like in the transformer movie where in an ending Megatron make peace with Optimus prime or something like that. GAH!

Ok, just watched the clip and holy hell that was dumb, the original ending was much much better.

the "legend" in the book is that he KILLED so many vampires/zoombies an became a legend like the old dracula tales of a lone figure coming in during the day and killing them.. that legend.. and i think this hapy ending (i like the original.. he had to die..) does something with that as he keeps looking at the wall of dead zombies..but true.. no marration as to why he was a legend.. would give way to a sequal.. which i think they want to do.. would suck though...
This ending is just great than the other one because he did not eat to those bloodthirsty human or zombie. The other is sucks because he sacrifice his life for the vaccine. i want to watch it again on my DVD.

Thank you for the link! For me, the current ending is the better way to explain the whole story. But this one is cool enough because those three are the only person that 'currently' left on earth. btw, isn't this story somehow similar to 28 days/weeks later? Considering the original ending, this virus become incurable diseases...
Missed the 'ending' part, and read it as 'I Am Legend Alternative'. Was expecting time-loops, dimension hopping, aliens, and giant robots.
well, thinking more about it, i feel that this is the product of the hollywood notion that movies with bleak endings don't sell too well. so usually they create alternate happy endings and do advance screenings for the bleak endings (if it has one). then based on the people's reaction, they switch it sometimes.
