Akihabara News spend a day with the Japanese Defense Forces - check out the photos of military equipment, food and people running about. Yes, even the Japanese Self Defense Forces have a mascot. Any folks here who are keen on joining your army/defence forces? I know that some folks here don't have a choice like Singapore and South Korea. Our would you rather not join the army and play with your own solders instead? Join the Japanese Defense Forces below.Join the US army below.Join the Singapore army below - is it "army" or "defense forces" ?Join the Georgian army below.Join the (south) Korean army below.
maan you didnt include join the British army, what an outrage
The British don't need recruitment advertisement when Prince Harry is setting a fine example in Afghanistan. I've been reading the articles about his time there. That kid really grew up into a fine man.
make love not war? :P
Yea I'll go with that. War is not fun.
Sure. Japan most be the only country that has an army that comes with a mascot. O.o
Motherland!! Aww! T__T (My countrys army) "Nordicbattlegroup" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9B0KVNN2_ao
Swedish has a cool recruitment site http://forsvar.fileflat.com/english/
me? join the armed forces? i have my own private armed forces!!! *maniacal laugh* WORLD DOMINATION!!!
If youre talking about the singapore ground forces then its "singapore army" if youre talking about the army with all three branches then its "Singapore Armed Forces"
proud member of the united states airforce since october 16th 2007
What? This isn't right. I thought we would get to drive Gundams/Evangelions and what not.
Didn't know that even JSDF has a mascot. I suppose a lot of organisations / products in Japan bound to have a mascot to draw public relations. I know one of my friend is planning to join the Royal Armoured Corps of the British army; 2nd Royal Tank Regiment to be precise. We used to talk a lot about military stuff and games, but recently he seems to have gone really into it (even before joining it); too much that he has become a bit narrow-minded and thinking that he's always right. It's not as easy to talk with him now, as he's usually not interested with other stuff and may even denounce on things that he's not in common with me. I'm not surprised that he'll change in that way, because I know people who have joined military forces had similar behaviours. Can't say much more about him, but I just hope that he'll enjoy his time and serve well in the future.
When I got a package from Customs Japan, there was a dog-looking mascot called "Customs-kun." There is also a mascot in the shape of the Japanese passport, published by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Wow, all these mascots are creeping me out. I'm gonna have nightmares full of googly eyes and cheesy smiles.
Enjoy.
mmm reminds me of my 6 years i had to serve after the army paid for my medical training, good old British army. Also is it just me or does south Korea's recruitment vid look really lame.
I was asked to join the Army, but I declined and went to school. I was built too small for the Marines and other branches.
Was considering to join the army if my A-Level result came out bad. I always loved the military since I was born, and guns are extremely relevant to my interest. Here's a video of PASKAL, Malaysia's navy commando. They're the equivalent to the US Navy SEALS because they were trained by the same guys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eXsNjK6ZjM PS: Don't you just hate these Youtube flametrolls who went to any military videos of just about any country and then talk baseless crap about them?
they look quite good to me and here i thought our armed forces are a bunch of wusses. I was sorely mistaken.
It's not really a 'no choice' thing - all Singaporeans in their late teens to early twenties, if they are fit enough, have to undergo a compulsory 2-year attachment with the Army (here called the Singapore Armed Forces) to gain the skills necessary to engage in combat. This is called National Service (NS), and this is because Singapore simply cannot afford a large professional army, so we decided to create a highly trained militia instead. ^_^ As for me, I still have 1 year to go before my turn... -_-;;
2 more years before my turn...
NS ETA 2 years orz
Are you referring to the same Singapore Armed Forces that allowed a member of their force to take a gun out of camp for 19 hours before they found him, Danny?
To Leefe and AK-kun, sorry, ORD'ed 4 years ago. That makes me old though. :(
I ORDed 1 1/2 years ago. btw that ad is just glorified propaganda -_-"
spent 2 yrs 4 months of my life as a conscripted soldier. it was ok, made a few good friends. kinda missed the good old carefree days in green. ('~')
Where's the ad for Zeon? SIEG ZEON!!!
Uhm hello; didn't anyone notice that the Japanese Join the Army is playing the theme for Pirates of the Caribbean? Or am I the only one who's noticing this...
I noticed it too. It did go well with it though. On a side note, the south korean army looks really laid back. And out of all those videos, i liked the singapore one best.
what u see in the ad doesn't necessary means the same thing in real life.
watch out! American soldiers stationed in Japan molest girls, and Japanese soldiers get drunk and operate an Aegis destroyer.
molest? no it's rape from what i read in the papers. a 38 years old US military sergeant raped a 14 years old girl in okinawa. funny thing is the family of the girl decided not to press charges against him and he was released. i'm very sadden by this news. i wonder what made the family drop the case? definitely something fishy going on here...
It's called huge payout to victim + government-controlled media cover-up for the sake of diplomatic ties.
Japan is the only country to showcase jets. Ace Combat BANZAI!!! XD Ahh? Where's the recruitment video for the UNSCDF? Jokes aside, who here would volunteer for the armed forces? (If yours is compulsory, then you shouldn't be reading this)
Joining the army has never crossed my mind, to be honest, it's mainly because I live in a country which is racially not my country. . Therefore, to be honest again, I have low interest to defend my country from whatever forces that may harm her. . Am I being racist here..? But that simply shows how bad Chinese are treated in Indonesia >_< . Just to make it clear, I don't mean to offend anyone so, please disregard my comment if you find it offensive. ^^
For 2 years spent in the Service, you'll be doing all the odd-jobs and regular work while being given a dirt cheap allowance (400SGD per month while doing the same work as the Regulars who earn 2,200SGD and above, and we also get no bonuses). All I can say is that our government sure know how to make full use of cheap labour. Truthfully to me, it's a waste of my life, but looking on the bright side I have only 3 months left to go then it's off to University. Can't wait to get off this rock after Uni and never come back.
Ow. i jus sawa Letter from iwo jima.
In Singapore it's called National Slavery instead of National Service. The two years where young guys go in and get paid peanuts for it. After the 2 years, we still have to suffer 10 years of re-service. =
are those soldiers at the immigration checkpoint in Changi also in an NS period? they look cool with those sun glasses and HKMP5 stuff(CMIIW)
I tried to join the marines corps after high school but apparently asthma is a disqualifier.
Polish army don't make commercials, but there are some videos created by military fans ;) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTbjbu0qtXc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgKmtgRZxrc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNAqJbU6Dok
I wanted to work in the army as an administrative person but they saw my diplomas and were scared. So I'm on full-studies mode again, but far away from home this time. ^^
This sounded kinda wrong and arrogant at the same time. Please forgive yours truly for that.
i wouldn't want to work for the army but so far this is my 5th month being a soldier due to National Service. There were times where NS is simply shit but most of the time, is pretty enjoyable but then again, that depends on how you view things. besides, i take it as 2years of good physical training to prep me for the rest of my life as a healthy person instead of one always having to see a doctor for minor problems. If your country has a policy to force you into army, all i can say is, suck it up, is only a few years, view it positively. For those that wants to join the army , well prepared for shits and of course many good carrots the army can offer like tax cuts and cash rich compared to peers of your age.
I heard that Japan has a very high military budget despite its constitution which forbids military aggression. Maybe it is about 5th or 6th in the world in terms of spending. But I also believe they are paid much more then in other countries.
i am a part of a SOS-DAN Army
I wanted to join our Airforce but since we only have flying Coffins/outdated planes i'd rather fly in my PC instead~ Anyways my eyesight is now way below Airforce requirements :(
