I first discovered Om Rice [オムライス] when I came to Japan for the first time. Slightly fried egg rested on top of fried rice. The rice may contain meat or seafood and the egg is usually topped with some ketchup. I don't know the history of this dish so don't know if it originates from Japan - available in your region? See Om Rice being made below.
Mmmm... makes me hungry. Apparently the guy in the video finds something about this dish extremely funny and can barely hold his laughter in. Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of partially fried eggs (I like my eggs fully cooked) but still looks yummy.
Mmm! That's look terrific. Ahh man. Omu rice is really delicious.
there's a similar dish in Malaysia called Nasi Goreng Pattaya. difference is that the egg is fully cooked. i think i'll have some tomorrow ^^
Mmmm.... nasi goreng pattaya... how i missed that.
Never actually tried it myself. Not something you can find around here as far as I'm aware. It does sound good though.
fried a rice, then fried an egg, after that put the egg to the rice, add some sauce(whatever u like), and done as for egg like this, maybe u half fried it or some other way, since my family fried it fully
they sell rice like these at the "mamaks" they are called "nasi pattaya" mamaks = indian muslims usually opens stores/shop that sells 24 hours with food so high in cholesterol you need to crawl out after your meal.
forgot to mention that some mamaks are slightly sexist. me and gf when to mamak, both order nasi pattaya. 2 plates arrived: plate 1: plain nasi pattaya with ketchup on egg (mine) plate 2: used the kethcup to draw a design of the shop's name and a heart shape over it. the freaking mamak gave that place to my gf.
Sexist, or trying to be cute? How was it? Wish I stayed long enough in Malaysia to try out more of your wonderful cuisine.
And all of these wonderful food can be found in the 1 & only, penang. the only state in msia with an English name & the best food in the world.(My world at least....)
ornehx: Maybe they're inspired by meido kissas cos they draw hearts etc. on their omu rice too :D
My school canteen sell something similar and is called omelette rice. The egg is fully cooked though.
As if watching "The F-Word" on TV wasn't enough, now my senses are assaulted by this luscious image of a simple yet ultimately savoury dish... It's 12 midnight and I wanna cook now. Omelette rice... Probably the first Japanese dish (I think...) I ever cooked that didn't turn my insides into a battlefield of solid waste and liters of Yakult... It's another one of those localized dishes I think, Sir Danny. Most likely American in origin (ketchup... 'nuff said).
Ooh! Ooh! This is also great if the rice is cooked in a light mushroom/cream sauce with sweet corn kernels.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! *Goes off to cook*
Oh, have a cooking website to read. http://qlinart.blogspot.com/
*SOB* No rice...
I want to try the cream of mushroom + corn fried rice! Uuugh!
tried it, with fully cooked egg tasty, i don't go with tomato sauce tho, i use soy sauce, or kecap manis in melayu, i'm indonesian
This is my first time to see a slightly fried egg used on a om(elette?) rice. I eat omelette rice rather frequently, since that's one of the better menus here - and I would love to have that variation of omelette rice here, eating the same food over and over again can get really boring.
it's a simple dish but it looks delicious. maybe i'm hungry. ('~')
Not an egg person- therefore, Do not want. D:
chong they say eggs are good for your eggs
eggs are high in protein and cholesterol...both of which are important to your diet.
There is an old saying that eggs can help you replenish your "ammo" but 2 eggs is need or else only half tank will get filled...
Balance is important. 2:2 ratio...
LOL at ornehx.
"Eggs" as in ovaries?
Glasseyelashes, more like soldiers? *Adjusts glasses* Yes, I don't think I'm wrong in my thoughts.
One of those dished I wouldn't try. Rice is fine, but egg is total NO.
i just had this for lunch today
I've never had this, but it looks okay to eat. I'm good with egg, I'm good with meat and rice. Ketchup on rice though? I'm not so sure about. Maybe some soy sauce for me instead.
I had it for lunch today as well, but without the ketchup. I prefer it with demi glace sauce.
Mmm...tasty!
Cool! This is the first time I see it made this way :D The other way I saw it they actually pan fried the rice and roll the egg on the rice in the pan (kinda) One day I will master Omu rice! (it is hard ^^;)
I spent all afternoon cleaning the house, it's 5:30pm, and I still didn't eat nothing since I woke up. Then I start my daily RSS checking to read this??? Later! I'm taking a bath and going to prepare something to eat... Funny I didn't feel hungry up to now. :P
Is this the egg on rice thing in harvest moon games?
In Korea it's called Omu Rice. Been eating it for decades.
I think it looks yummy. I do like eggs with ketchup. lotta people over here try it that way, but never seen it with rice... mmmm looks interestin ill maybe try it see how it ends up :-D
mmmmm... my wife makes this sometimes for dinner. sooo good with pieces of sausage inside.
Not a fan of almost cooked eggs, I like it scrambled...
I always want my eggs cooked pretty good, not dry. Can make some good eggs over easy, just add shedded cheese on top...
Is the Om rice more of a breakfast item or for anytime?
Anytime. It's kinda considered a kid's dish.
EGGS!!! That dish is absolutely deliciously (feelings partially explained by a lack of scrambled eggs since young)
Omu Rice... Something I have every time I visit Japan, after my sister has first witnessed it being made in dorama called ランチの女王 (Lunch Queen). I tried cooking one with my friend few weeks ago, but we assumed that we have to do it like the proper omelette way (with rice inside the folded omelette), but the omelette was too small (as the pan wasn't big enough to do it), and therefore it wasn't a good fold. Interesting to see that the Omu Rice in the video has done the egg almost cooked (reminds me of Onsen Tamago), and covering only the top surface of the rice.
There's an Omu rice stall in Singapore Takashimaya. But it's expensive at around S$7-9.
uso da~ Well, it's never too late to learn something new...
I tend to make some from time to time. It's quite easy to make, cheap and filling.
They sell Om rice at our local Japanese restaurant. It's pretty simple to make at home so I don't try to eat when I'm out of the house or when I'm in Japan.
i'm not a big ketchup on eggs person (like if i'm just having regular scrambled eggs) but i gotta admit it makes omu rice better.
