Poster of Crysis taken at Asobit Game at Akiba. Have only heard of the game through looking at the "games you are playing" lists and comments posted. How does it compare to Metal Gear Solid? I ask because it looks like a fair bit of sneaking around from the demos I've seen. Want that suit though - nothing on eBay...
Nothing like MGS sadly, its basically the same as Farcry, you stuck on tropical island, kill a bunch of marines, find out something weird is going on, kill a bunch of aliens, kill main bad guy, escape /yawn
/slap Crysis wasn't that bad. I hear the ending was less then spectacular, but the game was a testament to how developers could push themselves. For example, look at this video, displaying the fluid animation/physics even when over 3000 objects littered the screen; http://youtube.com/watch?v=YG5qDeWHNmk However, Far Cry was a much more enjoyable experience, and with Far Cry 2 just around the corner, I'm hoping (and I have a feeling) that FC2 will wipe the floor of Crysis.
Crysis is a beautifully detailed FPS, but gameplay is nothing like MGS. It's new 3D engine allows for a extremely high detail environment. Thus you will need a pretty hefty machine to play it smoothly, and even more if you have Vista that uses DX10. I'm running on XP with an 8800 card & 2Gb, and it runs fine on MED for me but does take a hit when there's alot goin on cause I'm running widescreen. Looks even better with Vista, but you'll need the lastest and greatest to run smoothly with higher detail. Otherwise you're shite outta luck, so I wouldn't bother. Heard they are making a console version for PS3, so if you must play, wait!
Crysis = graphics w*ore even the latest commercial high-end gaming machine couldn't run that thing on full screen @@
lol how bout my PC ^^ got 2 Geforce 8800 GTX SLi lol
2 GTX's will run it, trust me, you will hate the frame rate...unless you play at 1024x768 or 1280x768, wich are decent at those resolutions. Sadly this game was made with future in mind I think, so maybe when the new 9800's(tentative number as far as nVidia goes) come out, this game will be the next Doom 3(graphically).
Well... I don't think it compares to MGS in ANY way danny... xD So, this here is an FPS, don't really know details on the storyline but you're a Marine in the future and are sent with a team to inspect this island due to a enemy invasion. Of course things get freaky when a 3rd party gets involved (ALIENS). Thing is, you got this coolsome suit which lets you increase your physical abilities individually. You can increase Strenght, and throw guys for 10+ metres or jump really high, or Defense and take a few extra bullets, or even Invisibility to sneak around. Then, more coolness, you can customize pretty much every weapon you find with silencers, scopes, barrels, grenade launchers and such. It's a great shooter, and you CAN sneak around, but shouldn't be compared to MGS really...
Crysis and MGS are two totally different kettles of fish, therefore, me thinks comparing those two is rather pointless >_< Oh btw, this news reminds me of this funny, crysis-related Hitler video ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGPI0haXq1Q
I agree, in MGS you can't throw a person 10 feet of the ground and onto a building... And LOL @ video
@Lostandfound If you like that, then you're bound to like this! ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcW3hbnR2EI And this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYvZnTFpip0 One is about Hitler and FSX, while the other one is about Hitler and xbox live ban. I find the xbox live ban especially hilarious. ^^
LOL, Xbox live band FTW!
Major LOLED! It was probably a good thing Hitler didn't DL Halo 3 beta... He would be hacking the game left, right, and center to power his weapons to insane proportions.
I still think that Crysis was only made because the developers (Crytek) wanted to show their skills. "We has Crysis, now beat its graphics!". I played it at a friends pc and didn't enjoy it at all. Just my 2 cents though ^^"
I wish I had a machine capable of playing crysis at decent settings. I don't think that there is a powerful enough system which is commercially available and can run crysis on max settings!!
not trueee, a friend of mine has a pc with one of the higher end core2duo chips, +dual sli nvidia 8800 Gts. Game runs smoothly, but I'm not sure if it was on high settings or highest. I'd have to ask.
From what I've read, 8800GT 512MB, E6750 and 2GB ram should handle this beast, however I'm not sure on max setting or not ^^ http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3151&p=6
Last I checked, the most powerful graphics card on the market with 4bigs of RAM is able to play crysis at the "extreme" setting but only at 30fps. And that can make a difference, esp in online play. cheaper setups can play crysis with normal to high settings at 60fps
Crysis killed my com.=_="
It's mostly a shooter game, no sneak at all. The nicest think is the u can almost destroy averything u see on the screen, imagine to kill ur enemys by the tree u fired at!
Crysis was an amazing game up until the aliens, I enjoyed its blend of action and stealth up to that point just as much as i did with MGS. Yes, the ending did suck in my opinion, mostly because it was more like the end of a chapter than it was of a game. However, its multiplayer i think is a highly redeeming quality. It is like a blend of CnC Generals and Counterstrike. You have the ability to purchase weapons, armor, tools, vehicles, etc from your base and several capturable structures, such as a war factory, science facility, and more. Of course, Crysis doesn't go much further than that, sadly. It is a game definately worth playing at least once. If i were to rate it, i would give it an 8 out of 10.
Crysis was really just a technical demo for PC, while plot being very average and gameplay were nonthing new.
you need THIS muscle machine to play Crysis... if not give up!

I won't be surprised if you haven't heard of Crysis until now, even though it has been out for 2 months, because Western PC games aren't very popular in Japan (from what I have gathered from 2 short visits to Akihabara). Comparing Crysis to its predecessor Far Cry will be a better match than to MGS. Open-ended, tropical environment, and aliens towards the end of the game. Not my cup of tea due to horribly high requirements and the concept of one-man-army against military forces. This leads me to look for an answer for this question: Why are Western PC games not very popular in Japan? I know the answer is supposed to be obvious, but some Western 'hardcore' gamers pouts that people are 'ignorant' when it comes to PC games, and they sometimes won't take in counter-arguments. Guess they're simply not into other cultures at all in a way. But it would help a lot if some readers or even Danny to strengthen the reasons behind this please.
As regards to your question, i believe i can, in some way or another, answer that, to the best of my abilities as i have been wondering around that myself. For one thing, the PC gaming market in Japan is rather small & directed to a small niché market, catering only on those who have an interest in the lust for flesh, as in sex & erotic games. At best, an eroge PC-game sells better than FPS shooters, realtime strategy wargames, simulation games (Sid Meiers Civilization series & Will Wright's Sim City games & its other iterations & countless other games too numerous to list)which is more popular in the west. Furthermore, a game of any kind that sells around 10.000 copies in Japan is considered a hit. Which is no wonder that western PC gamers regard ther japanese counterparts as perverts & other unkind nicknames. This is what most western Pc gamers in the west think about PC gaming in Japan. Another thing is that having a PC is rather expensive. Components can become obsolete (my computer is a living example of this). Maintenance also can be a hassle to most people using a PC as their gaming platform. Should a game crash or somehow not work properly, one has to find & download patches to rectify the problem. Lastly, when it comes to what games most PC-gamers like to play in the West, the predominant game genres are as mentioned above. Before het advent of the graphics processor, most games made some two decades ago were two-dimensional. Because of the pc requiring some maintenance, people found that consoles are a better trade-off. consoles dont take much mainentance at all, and if one wants to play, pop in a game catridge or CD, and presto, you're good to go. Then the people demanded more from their games. They wanted better graphics & sound, more complex storylines & better interactivity. To meet the customers demands, the hardware & software used to make the games evolved into what it has become today. As games became more better in terms of graphics & sound, the games themselves diversified. And the people who played them became diversified as well. Lastly, peoples taste in game has something to say about this. Japanese have never liked FPS & realtime strategy war-games in the first place, because they almost always involve violence & war, which is distasteful to them (Japan were defeated in WW2) & that such games glorify them in one way or another. Fighting games fall under this belief too, since western games tend to be more realistic (the game Mortal Kombat is a prime example of this). The most popular games (consoles & PC) in Japan is mostly Role playing games. Dragon Quest & the Final Fantasy games has something to do with the popularity of that genre. Games based on anime & manga are also a contributing factor to the success of consoles & console games in Japan. This is why most western games sell very poor, or not at all, in Japan. In closing, i'd like to share these articles from the 'net as my sources regarding this question. "Why Western games sell poorly in Japan" (From Gaming Steve): http://www.gamingsteve.com/archives/2006/02/why_do_american_1.php "Gaming in Japan" (From What Japan thinks): http://whatjapanthinks.com/2006/05/24/gaming-in-japan/ "History & Culture of Video Games in Japan" (From Google): I'd suggest googling this up as linking to the page can be quite problematic. can be viewed in either HTML or dowloaded as an RTF text file. worth a read. "Exposé of Japanese game market" (from Gamasutra): http://www.gamasutra.com/features/20070507/sheffield_01.shtml "Where have all the PC Games gone?" (from Google, taken from an old IT-magazine from Japan): http://www.japaninc.com/cpj/magazine/issues/1997/aug97/0897pcgames.html There, i think these articles could at least provide some insight. Sorry for the shamless dropping of various links, but these & other articles can be found or googled. Apologies to danny or anyone if mistakes have been made on my part. XD.
I've heard the graphics card to run this thing costs over 500 dollars! No way I'm playing anytime soon.
yes it cost more than 500$ if u want to play crysis at the ultra settings. but at high settings a 300$ card is good enough. an 8800ultra, gtx cost roughly more than 500$ 8800gt - less than 300$ 8800gts 320mb, 640mb - less than 400$ > 8600gts/gt etc - under 200$
Assuming I didn't make any mistakes, Crysis and MGS are totally different. Sure, Crysis has stealth, but it also has energy shields and you can switch the suit's 4 combat modes like Zeta doing a variable. MGS is doing things the hard way without powa' armor and active camo. I've never tried it before, though comments I've seen on the net usually put it in a (very bright) positive light; in referral to both games. Too bad they didn't put all those armor effects in the Halo series... :(
I'd like to share this vidclip of Crysis in Japanese... http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-Vu3vtl2paw Seems that EA Japan has done a good job with translating the english dialog with japanese. 8-D 'sides, would like to brag that i have a collectors edition of the game. X3. I play this game on my oh so obsolete computer (AMD Athlon 64 4400+ cpu, AMD/ATI Radeon x1950 XT 256 MB RAM) on medium settings & at 1280x960 screen resolution. One does'nt need a top-shelf card or a pimped-out gaming rig to run this one, imho. As regards comparing Crysis with MGS4, i'd say that those two games are totally different. MGS = More like a stealth action game to me. Solid Snake uses his Camo-suit to sneak around and has an array of tools & weapons to get around. XD Crysis = A pure first person shooter, with a difference. The player can choose to sneak around & avoid combat or go rambo on everyone & everything, since Crytek, the people behind FarCry, designed the game to be so. thats my 2-cents worth from a PC-gaming maniakku X3.
uh, minor correction: My present desktop computer has these specifications... AMD Athlon X2 4400+ (2200 Ghz per core, Socket 939 processor slot. 2048 Gb RAM ATI Radeon X1950 XT Graphics processor, 256 mb RAM, PCI-express slot. These components are considered rather obsolete, compared to those that are on the market now, but still i can run all PC-games released last year with relative good graphics & framerates.
This game has the best physics engine I have ever come across. Beautiful environment coupled with realistic and believable physics. Here are some of the technologies that they used to make the game, including real time ambient maps rendering, fully destructible environment etc. Danny, in case you have not seen this, you might wanna take a look ==> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdPrB_lcpBc Its awesome ^^
The shark was the best part of the game.
this review sums up the game nicely http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/2808-Zero-Punctuation-Crysis and you might also want to check out his other reviews, they're all funny as hell
In crysis u will be playing a role similar to Predator in the movie Alien VS predator, as the technology used is roughly similar.
except that predators are about 100x cooler
Crysis is a really amazing graphics and physics engine with some mediocre shooting game attached to it. It's entertaining being able to cut down trees with a machine gun or play with tornadoes in the Sandbox...but the game itself is just not that interesting. You see some angry Koreans with guns. You shoot the angry Koreans with guns. The angry Koreans with guns shoot you back. You run around filling each other with lots nand lots of holes until you eventually find a vehicle, then you run everyone over and complete the map, only to do it all over again on the next map. Eventually they change it up by replacing Koreans with aliens, but by then you are probably already wise to their turd-polishing trickery and have just stopped playing story mode and moved on to trying out all the awesome mod maps there is floating around on the internet.
need a computer with two sheets of "thinking aluminum" and five denimite mem-shards to run this baby
Crysis is one helluva of FSP game and it literally pushes the graphic card to the limit. And it's quite remarkable as well. BTW, if you feel that the ending is a bit disappointing because there are some thing need to be taken care of, that because Crysis here is the first of the Crysis trilogy game, so expect Crysis 2 to be out this or next year. If you want more higher resolution video of Crysis trailer and in-game movie, including Crysis engine (Crytek engine) demo, go here: http://www.gametrailers.com/game/2509.html
Plotwise, this game is way inferior to mgs. However having enemy soldiers see you through dense vegetation is certainly a way to design a game. The stealth function allows you to perform predator like kills where you cloak out take out a target then go back to cloak and rinse and repeat until everyone is dead. Even though Crysis is fun, I am still waiting for mgs 4, gonna buy ps3 for that one.
