DVD Otaku

DVD Otaku
Member halcyonrealms in Tokyo shows us some of his DVD collection.
I throw all the boxes out for DVDs that I know I'm going to keep - do the same for games too and then stick all the DVDs/games in folders. If I keep a box it means that I'm going to sell the DVD/Game at the local second hand store or give it away.
The boxes would take up a bit too much space for my liking.

All my other open source movies are kept on drives here n there.

I started doing the same a few years back. I find easier to organize, store and find by using disc binders. Easier when it comes time to pack up for a move too.

I have about the same (or less) amount in my collection as yours. The sad part is I'm not as organized, so I have stuff in closets, entertaiment center(s), a DVD rack next to my computer, on a bed I don't use, and some I find in unusual places (bathroom once.)

I think I need to clean up -_-;

Geeze you keep things neat. That FFX poster was a handout for EGM way back when. I had that thing, got torn down in a year or so (it started to peel of the wall, damage and whatnot). You're crazy neat (I'm really neat myself, but not to THAT extent ^_^;)

same thing with Danny, i keep my DVD collection inside CD binders which are a space saver. it has gave me a lot of space in my room to put my other stuff after i've placed my DVDs inside a CD binder ^___^

my own collection is a little bigger than that and a little more organized, mostly boxsets as i tend to wait for those to come out because they're cheaper than buying single dvds. also have a wallshelf full of manga and magazines that i never get a chance to read. i'll take a picture one of these days when i overcome my own laziness.

My video game collection dwarfs that. I have almost 2000 video games at this point spanning from old computer systems like Commodore 64 and TI-99 to brand new stuff like PS3/360/Wii games.

I do keep the boxes, but I have them boxed up in storage. As a collector, I like the completeness.

Wow, tons of DVDs right there.
I wish I had the money to buy this many... I wish I had the time to watch this many...

You know what this reminds me of? CDs. They started with those huge cases. Then, there was a slim case, a jewel case, a round case that fitted one CD only, and now people just buy them in tubes.

Blu-ray stuff already got smaller cases.

I know big cases protects more, and they kinda value the product... but I'd rather have smaller stuff with better materials to protect the media.

This lack of organization pains my obsessive compulsive mind. I have 2 similar sized collections one anime and one regular media and all are arranged by genre first, then by name. I absolutely hate it when people don't return them to their original places after borrowing. I used to collect anime DVDs one at a time but now I wait till the box sets are out.
