Photo taken when I was in Shanghai.
All my life I thought that the Bee Cheng Hiang [美珍香] brand of dried meat was from Hong Kong - discovered that it was founded in Singapore when I actually looked at the packaging of the 5 kilos that I brought back to Japan.
Tis one of my fave foods and was a great surprise when member Windbell brought me some when I met up with him on his last trip to Japan.
Cant get it in Japan and I start to get depressed when I'm down to the last piece - I chew it slowly ^^;
Do give it a try if you have the chance.

Luv this style of jerky. Luckily, I don't have to go as for as asia to get it. Over in Vancouver (hour flight away from me), they have a place called Bee Kim Heng which is renowned for its jerky. It's made on-site, and probably the best in all of Canada (can any Vancouverites back me up on this?) We always get tonnes when there even if it's $18/lbs.
So when I go to Asia this spring, I'll give this place a try. Let you know which I think is better. If Vancouver turns out FTW (which is likely probable with the tastiness of Canadian beef), won't you all be just so curious (esp. Danny) about this little piece of heaven in a polythene bag.

No hong bao, no ba gua, no visiting relatives (except visiting my grandfather for once and once only, and that was when I was in elementary school, oh, yeah, I received my first and last hong bao that time ^^).
I'm guessing this is one of the results of Soeharto's ban on Chinese culture in Indonesia, isn't it? >_<

Plenty of these barberqued pork shops in Singapore, but to find one that is truly awesomely delicious and yummy texture-wise is pretty difficult. But seeing it's also pretty expensive especially around our Chinese New Year, it isn't easy to go around buying from different shops ^^;

Dried meat is so addictive...
I remember eating that with my father some years ago. I guess he still loves it, but I gave up on it because it's quite greasy. I wouldn't touch a bit otherwise I would eat the whole package at once.
Anyone tried bits of dried meat with rice? It's superb, especially since the rice absorbs the fat, adds consistency and more flavor! ^^

Ba Gua or Bakkwa is the equivalent of the mandarin Rou Gan (dried meat). dunno if i got it right, i suck at pingying
That's because Bak Kwa is the pronunciation of 肉干 in Hokkien (
