Power Suits

Power Suits
Japan Probe covers a power suit that will be available for retail within four years and cost between 500,000 yen and 1,000,000 yen.
When worn, it enables the person to lift heavy objects like Candy Girls and not feel a thing.
Initially designed for elderly farmers but can be used in a variety of situations - if you had one how would you use it?

ok, while that's pretty damn awesome. I really wouldn't have a need for it =/

bit too expensive for a play thing too.

Actually, that's pretty genius. This could have a great impact on many different types of industry. Imagine the practical uses; my god.

Yes, it may have in developed countries' industries but, it may not have any impact in developing countries'.

One possible reason is that unskilled labours' wages in developing countries are considerably less expensive than in developed countries

That's why it just makes more sense to hire more labours rather than to get this cool power suit which I would love to have... for playful purposes, but nah, too expensive.. ^_^

Well because I can't understand the explaination in the video, I may be wrong. But 20kg's isn't very heavy, maybe for an old farmer. So unless I can lift a car or something I'm not particularly impressed.

well think of it right now, but they could further expand something like this and who knows; maybe one day it'll get to something like 80 or 100 kg. That would be incredible :p

True, but I would like to know a little more on how this works. As the human joints can only support so much weight without massive reinforcement. So to go that far you might as well develop a robot to take simple commands and lift for you.

There are loads of applications for this, like future robotic bodies controlled by humans as pilots, just watch any sci-fi movie and they'll most likely pop up, one that comes in my mind is Alien 2 when Ripley was using that robot to carry stuff into the dropship and used it to fight the alien as well. This could also be used to create future robotic limbs to incorporate into people if they loose one.

Seems nice. I look forward to its future progress.
Still, there is something I noticed. The guy still had to squat and lift the 20kgs bag properly (checked twice). Otherwise I feel he'd be suffering from a sore back.
If one would be forgetting the basics, lifting a really heavy object without proper positioning and moves, even with this suit = broken back.
Sad reality, people. ^^;

Candy Girls are heavy?!?!

Now I see. That's why Halo 3 's armor perutation had Hayabusa Armor. It all started from here.

http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/HAYABUSA

so now i wonder how long would it take for humans to find a military use for it...

not far at all. it doesn't give the user superhuman strength; just a small power boost to make 20 kg feel like a peanut. ok maybe a half-bag.
