By me, Engrish is loved eternally and forever with grace, but careful handling it should be dealt with. (Awkward English)

This one is my favorite: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z310/rundallman/Engrish.jpg It's a bit adult (no graphical content), so... sorry if it's against the rules.

But that's not Engrish, it's a Chinese sign.

I thought only poor Japanese-English qualified as Engrish.

From my understanding Engrish is any badly translated English. The language of origin is of little concern, though it's usually Asian.

Well assuming that the world "dolphin" is correct (nouns are usually translated properly even in terrible translations because it's a straight forward swap), it obviously says "Please do not put your hand through the fence because there is a danger it may be bitten by a dolphin". Not word for word, but that's what it's saying. Of course, if they somehow even got the word "dolphin" wrong, that's not what it means.

This one is golden. I do hear from time to time that Englishmen tend to be somewhat good at avoiding Engrish when they write themselves, but they tend not to do well in forreign languages. Is it really common for people in Wales to only know English and not Welsh? Personally I will learn the local language whereever I end up.

LOL, that's a good one, reminded me of a babelfish translation... so I inserted the Japanese to see if that's how they done it... and babelfish does an even worse job.

Even though we always think of Japan when it comes to this sort of thing, if you go to any other non-English speaking country you'll see a lot of things like that (admittedly not quite that bad...) I've seen public signs in France and Italy with terrible English on, sometimes with non-existent words being used. They're not just signs outside a café or something - we're talking government placed signs, in many cases.

hm.. makes me think of a new game. (maybe it's an old concept <shrug>, i just thought of it so to me it's new)
=================
Required:
-At least one die (singluar for dice if you didn't know)
-A small pouch/bag/cap or something able to conceal a bunch of things
-Paper/cue cards
-Pen/Pencil (pen or marker would be best for durability)
-Scissors
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Preparations: Write as many words as you can and cut out each word individually, then conceal the collection in the bag. Also, write up random phrases or sentences and stack those together (you can also use other materials for this such as books, newspaper, etc.)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Method: Pull out the first phrase and roll the die (dice if you have more than one), draw the rolled number of words from the bag and try to restate the phrase using the words you pull out.
=========================
i guess games should have a method for scoring... haven't thought much on it but let's say the words that you end up using that are not from the drawn words, you'll have points deducted whereas the words you do use will get a score multiplier of ( 8 - roll )
===============================================================
let me know if anyone tries this out.

I've seen lots of strange Japanese in Chinese restaurants too ^^;
We find the grammar amusing - we are not laughing *at* anybody.

Why don't they set up an agency in Japan to curb the Engrish?

I mean it's not that time consuming and difficult to translate people's sign boards since they are quite short messages.

Tbf there are tons of errors in that sentence, but the grow a "hand" one is just ridiculous lol ^_^ Would have thought they would get somebody to check on a warning sign like that lol...

To grow a hand, don't you need some alchemy? You know, like what Ed and Al tried to do in "Hagaren". Of course, you know did happen to those two.

That sign is so bad. I love it! Iei Ingurisshu!

Love it. Especially because of the dolphin meets hand theme in a fence situation.
