Some of the best Engrish I've seen - "grow a hand" ?! @.@ Original text from Sie Kensou below.after i saw this image i just have to show you guys. i don't know how i would search pictures in the huge library so i don't know if you have seen this picture before. (i'm not sure what category to place engrish under) image found in an Ar Tonelico forum
Lol nice one
Dangerous dolphins! ^^;
i think it should be dangerous human... human who can grow a hand in a fence!!
I shall warn my man to be careful around fences then o_o
Also make sure your hand isn't growing in a fence o.O
Seems to me that advice to keep my hands and dolphin away from that fence is pretty good advice ^_^ Nice Engrish find though :-)
lolwut? XD
By me, Engrish is loved eternally and forever with grace, but careful handling it should be dealt with. (Awkward English) This one is my favorite: http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z310/rundallman/Engrish.jpg It's a bit adult (no graphical content), so... sorry if it's against the rules.
That is brilliant.
But that's not Engrish, it's a Chinese sign. I thought only poor Japanese-English qualified as Engrish.
From my understanding Engrish is any badly translated English. The language of origin is of little concern, though it's usually Asian.
yeah.. seems like litokid is right, though i've always gone with Chinglish for chinese-english
"Please do not grow a hand in a fence." What?!?! Growing a hand?!?! xD
xD Lost in translation
hahaha that's really bad... not even close lol, wonder what japanese actually says ^^;
Well assuming that the world "dolphin" is correct (nouns are usually translated properly even in terrible translations because it's a straight forward swap), it obviously says "Please do not put your hand through the fence because there is a danger it may be bitten by a dolphin". Not word for word, but that's what it's saying. Of course, if they somehow even got the word "dolphin" wrong, that's not what it means.
Wow that was translated horribly! D:
i failed orz i couldn't imagine a hand growing out of the fence to touch the dolphin *On a side note.. Ar tonelico forum 発見!
Maybe they use some of those terrible online translators.
lmao, who the heck translated that? lol they need ALOT of work XD
Whoa grow an another hand, well that I dont see everyday. This is perfect Engrish.
well at least it's not grow a dolphin ^^;
or lose a dolphin! haha
Or grow a hand on a dolphin (° 口°;;;;
Wow, that'd be... "Handy" :P
replaced. :P [Because there is danger that it is involved in a hand. Please do not grow a dolphin in a fence.]
BBC News has a different one. Welsh message that actually got put up >.> http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7702913.stm Cyclists once had a sign telling them "Inflamed Bladder". Wish it was Inflamed Dolphin hahah!
This one is golden. I do hear from time to time that Englishmen tend to be somewhat good at avoiding Engrish when they write themselves, but they tend not to do well in forreign languages. Is it really common for people in Wales to only know English and not Welsh? Personally I will learn the local language whereever I end up.
So... what exactly was involved in a dolphin? :P NSFW translation... But anyways, warning taken. I'll be shure not to grow hands in a fence. Or anywhere else, for that matter...
I am Hong Kong Chinese born in UK but I find it funny when the Chinese or Japanese or Korean who speak or know very little english are given the jobs of translating signs to english where as they don't give it to the english knowledgeable asians.
I guess ill have to plant my hand seeds somewhere else XD
I have lots of seeds, but they're not from my hand
!!! grow hands on dolphin fence !!!
(≧ω≦)
again with this keyboard... seems to be activating keys I don't press...
Well I have to give them credit for trying, but that's pretty bad.
LOL! Who are doing these translations? ^^ I have to take pictures of various signs when I come. =P
pffffffffffffffffffff.... hahahahha "Grow a hand" ahahahha i can't stop laughing!
That's what she said...
Sweet so we can stick our hand into the fence. Just as long as we dont grow a hand.
I didn't even know my hand could do that, this is great you learn something new every day!
Grow hand... I LOL-ed pretty hard. ^^
Hmm.. This must be somehow related to Mr Fantastic.. I wonder why one must grow hands to touch dolphins?
Talk to the growing hand ...
Nice one. *lifting board with sign 10 on it*
It should be a simple "WARNING: DO NOT ENTER!" or similar signature or NASTY VICIOUS looking dolphin to scare all the folk away! XD
once you have been assaulted by a dolphin, life is never the same
So do not grow a hand, because thy will eat those.
grow a hand in a fence?! LOL!!
growing a hand is one thing... but on a fence?? I LOLed...
Lol I Don't speak English Sorry.
LOL, that's a good one, reminded me of a babelfish translation... so I inserted the Japanese to see if that's how they done it... and babelfish does an even worse job. "Because there is a possibility of being bitten in the dolphin, please cannot present to the hand to inside the pool"
although the grammar, etc is worse, i think babelfish provided a clearer message than the one on the sign itself... ^^
Being bitten in the dolphin sounds infinitely worse than being involved in one.
This is pretty common in non-English speaking countries like Korea, Japan and China... I remember my hometown in Korea had lots of those, pretty funny when I read them after studying for a few years in Singapore.
I am to be loving it! (horrible English intended) To me, Engrish can be funny, clever, or annoying. In most cases, it's funny or clever. This is one of those cases. Good job Danny! I have believe in you!
grow a hand huh...didn't know we could do that...
Dont grow ur hand!!! cant grow dun have soil thr..
Crazy dolphins and fences with hands... The world is ending, I just know it!
Even though we always think of Japan when it comes to this sort of thing, if you go to any other non-English speaking country you'll see a lot of things like that (admittedly not quite that bad...) I've seen public signs in France and Italy with terrible English on, sometimes with non-existent words being used. They're not just signs outside a café or something - we're talking government placed signs, in many cases.
lol.. I cant grow my hands on the fence
Hey, I grow hands all the time in the pool, and no one has said anything about it yet!
Don't worry, I won't grow my hand in a fence. Wouldn't want to get involved in danger with dolphins.
Feel a bit more welcome with some english signs
Hmm reminds me of some japanese translators that did not have all the words, hence they use the closest terms to explain.
hm.. makes me think of a new game. (maybe it's an old concept <shrug>, i just thought of it so to me it's new) ================= Required: -At least one die (singluar for dice if you didn't know) -A small pouch/bag/cap or something able to conceal a bunch of things -Paper/cue cards -Pen/Pencil (pen or marker would be best for durability) -Scissors =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Preparations: Write as many words as you can and cut out each word individually, then conceal the collection in the bag. Also, write up random phrases or sentences and stack those together (you can also use other materials for this such as books, newspaper, etc.) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Method: Pull out the first phrase and roll the die (dice if you have more than one), draw the rolled number of words from the bag and try to restate the phrase using the words you pull out. ========================= i guess games should have a method for scoring... haven't thought much on it but let's say the words that you end up using that are not from the drawn words, you'll have points deducted whereas the words you do use will get a score multiplier of ( 8 - roll ) =============================================================== let me know if anyone tries this out.
Does anyone tell them they are wrong?
lol. Grow a hand, thats funny XD how to grow a hand?!
Dangerous dolphins and growing hands from fences? LoL
well, it's understandable... i think
Don't go growing that hand into that fence onto that dolphin:P
never thought I see "dolphin" "grow" "hand" "fence" and "danger" all in one sentence. ^^;
omg i just cant stand it ...its just way too funny lol ^^ please dont grow a hand in the fence a dolphin may bite it ^^ so funny !!! ^^ better translation can be, please do not put you hand beyond the fence a dolphin may bite it ^^ ha ha ha ha ha grow a hand in a fence lol ^^
rofl that's classic :D
>.< Languages really are confusing...
Is the translation bad because they are using computers to translate instead of actual people, or are their translators really that bad?
LOL!!!!!! This is some good engrish... LOL!!!!!! Grow a hand...how the heck do we grow a hand...
Whoever thought dolphin could be so dangerous ^^;
Looks like I have to be careful not to grow a hand in the fence or else there will be danger involving a dolphin x_x
Zzzz.You guys might laugh at Japanese English but i bet they too will laugh at your Japanese if you were to talk or write it down.
I've seen lots of strange Japanese in Chinese restaurants too ^^; We find the grammar amusing - we are not laughing *at* anybody.
dangers in dolphins and growing hands in fences.... the daily life in japan must be amazing to warrant such signs XD
They need to hire one English speaking native to correct all these signs.
Epic just Epic! hahahaha
my English is not so good, but this...
Why don't they set up an agency in Japan to curb the Engrish? I mean it's not that time consuming and difficult to translate people's sign boards since they are quite short messages.
I thought it was something like this Eng(r)ish version for Macross. http://www.atalude.net/archives/2008/11/03/lets-engrish-with-macross-frontier/
well, you can maka an "engrish" tag for those posts.
Remember girls, dolphins are always dangerous!
LOL. Dolphins..lolwut..
Okay....I will not grow a hand to get involved with a dolpin ^^
Tbf there are tons of errors in that sentence, but the grow a "hand" one is just ridiculous lol ^_^ Would have thought they would get somebody to check on a warning sign like that lol...
This is a good one. Sometimes I am really impressed what they can think up.
To grow a hand, don't you need some alchemy? You know, like what Ed and Al tried to do in "Hagaren". Of course, you know did happen to those two. That sign is so bad. I love it! Iei Ingurisshu!
Lol.. wahaha!!
I saw some epic engrish when I was in China during the summer. I'll post them when I finally get my 50 comments "orz. What topic would engrish go under though?
Love it. Especially because of the dolphin meets hand theme in a fence situation.
