Anti Christmas

For some reason, I've been seeing anti or "stop Christmas" slogans around the otakushpere.
Here is a pic of some folks walking around Akiba with these anti Christmas slogans on fancy pieces of cardboard.
Some otaku even went through the trouble of making Hatsune Miku sing anti Chistmas jingles below.
Thanks to AS for sending in the video and more pics at Akiba Blog.

Well, it's not by wearing cardboard and Jason masks (Good for Halloween though) that you can persuade people to stop having fun during this period.
Boycott never works, anyway (Unless millions of people do it at the same time).

Unless they begin wreaking havoc, there is nothing to fear from those weirdos. :)

.... Anti-Christmas jingles? That's rather ironic, don't you think? Especially since Miku-chan is in Santa gear..

LOL why would they even do that? Do they get caught by the police afterwards? I guess to some, Christmas may be just a day where people have to waste money buying gifts for other people but why do this? I don't think it'll change anything...

People have the right to celebrate what they want! It's perfectly fine for people to NOT celebrate Christmas. It's just as bad for someone to pressure anyone into not celebrating it, as with someone pressuring people to celebrate it.

Why can't we live in peace and do whatever the hell we want? I would probably go super sentai on them if I was there.

I don't get why they would be anti Christmas other than the fact its just commercialism in action in Japan with next to no religious significance.

Maybe they are just being dicks because they have nobody to spend Christmas with. That or having to buy their mom a present prevents them from getting that new body pillow they have been wanting.

But yeah Danny if you find out more about this and can elaborate on it please do so.

You do stumble on anti christmas stuff in Tokyo from time to time. I've never seen anything like this though.
And I can fully understand why they are like this. Christmas here is NOTHING but commercial profit. There is no celebration of the true meaning of christmas. Hell even the lighting displays at various places are commercially sponcered.

They just feel they need to inform people of the meaning of christmas in Japan. I know what they are saying, I dont agree with stopping it. It's simple really :)

Now the radical Pro Empire group that drives around... thats another story :(

There's a name that's given to those who hate Christmas. We call them liberals.

Oh, sorry. Most of my relatives tends to watch Fox News and I try to keep from having it eat at my brain, but I fear I'm losing the battle.

All people over the age of 14 secretly hate Christmas. Just admit it.
It's no fun having to waste the money you earned buying gifts for people simply because you feel obligated to.

lol. As long as Christmas generates money, celebrations of Christmas won't be stopped. Business is business.

If they want to stop Christmas they should encourage people not to spend their money on Christmas stuffs, rather than campaigning like that.. or maybe they're campaigning to tell people to stop buying Christmas stuffs? ^^

I don't celebrate Christmas, since I'm not Christian. I celebrate Yule, however, and eat a ham on January 1st.

Yule begins on Mother Night, which is December 20th, and lasts for twelve days (like the twelve days of Christmas). We celebrate the return of the Sun, which tells us that there will be no Fimbulwinter, since the days begin to get longer again.

So, yeah. They can protest Christmas all they want, since it was stolen from the Old Norse, anyway.

Are they nuts?
If they don't want something, then they just have to ignore it. It is fun for other people. (this applies for most situations in life when you dislike something and try to encourage others to leave it)

Well, I have to disagree a little here. Christmas is so overwhelming in many parts of the world you can hardly escape it - you are forced into the whole commercialized gathering of sheep. What has our christmas to do with the real meaning behind it, if there is any? Cheesy decoration everywhere, christmas goodies for lots of money, the everliving christmas "hits" being played on the strees. If one doesn't believe in the whole thing or simply doesn't like it, I can perfectly understand how it can be quite disgusting for them.

But then again, I'm an atheist too and couldn't care less. Have fun and enjoy your holidays they way YOU like it folks.

I think the reason for them to anti-christmas is because christmas is a creation from west world..while in the far oriental, we all have our own tradition and history, we have our way of celebrate the new year. however the world are impacted and commercialized too much by the west culture, we eat KFC and McDonald, we listen english pop crap and we begin to celebrate Christmas, which actually has nothing to do with our cultural background .. at the same time ,the traditional festivals are gradually lost its charm among new generation...I guess these guys are not really hate Christmas, they just want to draw others' attention to sustain the tradition .. people are different, for most of us in China, christmas is just another day.. but i myself don't mind to have a good excuse to spend some time with friends or family...

Xmas is a time of crappy shop decorations, crappy Xmas muzak, and people buying stuff no-one wants, let alone needs. I'm glad when the New Year finally begins (about January 20th in this country...)However I appreciate the two days or more not having to do anything but eat.

What's wrong with Christmas? If they don't like it then simply don't celebrate it, but don't don't push your beliefs on others.

Looking at their cheap cardcard placards, these are probably NEETs who don't know the value of holidays.
