So you must have heard many laws being passed to make it legal for gay couples to marry but leave it to Japan to take it a step further - a petition will be submitted to the Japanese government upon the collection of one million signatures asking for law to be passed making it legal to marry a two dimensional character. The petition is filled under Human Rights and can be seen online here. The online petition comes with the following:-We don't have interest in the 3D world. If possible, I want to become the husband of a 2D character. Does not look like this matter can be solved with today's science and technology so at least make it legal to marry a 2D character. If this law is passed then I want to marry Asahina Mikuru...Via Itai News and also covered by Sankaku Complex, Alfa, Nekoare, Oshietekun and 7000 other otaku site owners who are excited about this news ^^; Hmmm, lemme submit one to make it legal to marry a figure as this will be closer to fulfilling the otaku dream. If I was not married I would choose Fauna as my figure bride and probably Haruka from Minamike to be my 2D bride. Image from Gelbooru.
i wan syaoran to be my husband! *blush*
What a surprising article. In response to Patrick Tan in Malaysia, I find that sweet and a nice consolation to any relationship. This can only be possible in conditions like Anime/ TV entertainment orientated individuals. Since I'm a guy, I'd have my tsundere feel like Eureka/ Anemone, since I idolize Renton Thurston.
I call first dibs on Yoko (TTGL) if this law gets passed!
No can do, she's already been taken, I married her a long time ago xP
Share?
And thus continues the radical rise on polygamy. THANKS JAPAN /end sarcasm. But Lol'd at the article. I'm scared that they were pretty they sound so serious. -.-'' I like my anime girls, but not like that. It'd be very RONERY.
*Gasp* Danny! How could you? What about Mirai? ^^
Shes not allowed to have a BF or get married until after studies.
LOL
ah! LOL, I guess that would make like a daughter. ^^;
No, what about your 3d waifu? ^^;
But... what about that news that she's gonna appear in an eroge? Has it been scrapped? Or is it alright for her to appear in an eroge but not to have a bf? You're one strange dad, Danny:p
I see the after-effects of April the First are still there... XD
You mean it was a joke? Oops><
Haha, it's funny imagining you trying to intimidate a boy she might like while surrounded by a bunch of cute figurines. "So, how long have you know Mirai?" "Only for a few-IS THAT THE RYOFUKU-CHAN NENDOROID?!"
LOL. Watch out, she might become rebellious.
And when would that be, Mr Danny? When her studies end, that is? ;)
She's still studying? ^^;
Mirai is like Mr Danny's daughter x_x
Danny, you sound like my father does XD
I have always seen Mirai as Danny's 2D daughter. Azama Yuko would probably be her Godmother...? Then again, Mirai came from the future on the planet known as cybertrooo...- SORUNIA! *cough* Danny came from UK Sorunia? o.o;
Does it limit to only 1 2D character to be married??? Hoping we can build a 2D harem ^_^ How about the problem of a few people marrying the same 2D character? Will the couple who get married first own the marriage right of the 2D character after they both married? so that other's can't marry the same character.
Hmhm, I would have a hard time too choose one character if we aren't allowed to get a harem... >>>"How about the problem of a few people marrying the same 2D character?" Yah, definitely a problem. Maybe they should create a reservation list ? BTW: Is Kotomi Ichinose still free? If so.. *OFFICIALLY RESERVED*
If it means no marrying 3D girls then... maybe not.
If I could take both 2D and 3D, sure I'll go ahead with it. I'd pick Hatsune Miku, but 3D > 2D
You're too late...Miku's mine... ^^
As I expected... If this law got passed, there will surely be chaos between the fans!
but what about 2D characters' right to chose? XD
i claim marriage rights to Kasumi and Satsuki Kitaoji, called it !
Then the question of copyright laws comes into play. If a 2D figure is copyrighted to that company I guess no other person could own them. And if the 2D are considered for humans rights you'd have to get rid of copyright I guess because wouldn't it be like owning a slave or something?
Well, what if everyone designs their own character, as long as it doesn't breach the copyright codes. If Tenrou claims Miku, I'll make Miku clone with some alterations ^^
That's just a bit effed up.
So many problems will be encountered if this law is made. A lot of people like the same 2D character. There are some that do take it to the extreme. If this law is made, there will be conflicts O_o
Yeah, one 2D girl, many husbands: is that polygamy/bigamy... because I'm fair certain at least one is illegal =P
What the... well in any case if in terms of marrying a 2D character then my choice would be Hinagiku of Hayate no Gotoku.
I sense copyright issues.. XD
One of the first thing that came to mind too. They have to deal with the company, artist and so on. If they really want to marry something "2D" then they'll need to have their own "2D" wife made for them instead of using characters like "Mirai Suenaga", "CCS Sakura", "Strike witch girls" etc.
if that law gets passed japan's birth rate is going to go down hill
IF I were to marry a 2D chick, what would my offspring would be like? 2.5D?
4D!!!! ^.^( if you get what i mean)
Hmm.... I'd go for Kyon, I guess. A plain but, sweet guy, he is >.<
i want konata <3 but my parents will slaughter me D:
no you can't, konata belongs to kagamin only >3
And Kagamin belongs to me. So technically Konata belongs to me too XD
i thought Kagamin belonged to Konata >.< And since Konata belongs to me... they're both mine wahahaha~
Oh my, didn't think it would come true ^^ is nagato yuki taken?
wait,so every char will hv a spouse?err.. dont u think that sucks^^;
Chaos will enfold if a 2D character can only be married to one person. "Are you cheating on me, Konata, mai waifu? T_T"
what about characters already married? Furukawa Sanae pops into mind.
I call dibs on Sakaki of Azumanga daioh!
Miku and I are printing wedding invitations as we type... ^^
*Falls over with laughter*
BUTBUT what if 2 people marry the same anime character??? And what if she's a loli?!? I'd imagine that Suzumiya Haruhi, Konachan, and Hatsune Miku would be polygamists >.>
Fight to the death amongst the spouses! I'm ready for all contenders! ^_^;
See, this is where it ain't fair. You've already been building up arms, and even have combat experience with 'em now. You've got an unfair lead in the arms race. xD
look simply put, im ready to fight to the bitter end for kasumi and Satsuki, hell i dont think anyone here's claimed rights to the goddes herself, so i think shes still fair game, so i might just go for haruhi as well since i was the one in charge of her during the operation rescue rin
I can't imagine Haruhi getting married...
Naahh! i like to kiss, touch, pinch, hold and grab... ...and have a nice, easy, smart, silly talk....
I've got two questions about this: 1. Isn't this like legalizing bigamy through the back door? 2. If you divorce with your 2D waifu, do you have to pay alimony to the character designer? :D
Don't forget potential child support if the character designer creates some kids for you two... ^^;
You could make money by licensing them for a manga series. XD
I think since mine is from an older anime maybe I am safe... I would want Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi
Totally valid and actually passasble if it's just in name. If we start talking about tax breaks and any legal matter, seems pretty much impossible.
I would choose Horo! I simply love her character even tho she's rumored to be more than 600 years old! omg omg HORO HORO HORO!
Passing a law for marriage is bad enough. Can you imagine what the laws would have to look like for the divorce! It's not like you could claim infidelity, or lack of children, or she spends to much. WOW what a mess!
I would marry Nogizaka Haruka! she's a perfect model for both otaku and a yamato nadeshiko which i love so much but i still did feel it's kinda odd to "legally" marry a 2d character even if i wanted it so much. And even if the laws got passed, isn't this kind of thing would affect japan's population growth? i mean i heard they got problem with it now.... what if a lot of the population decided to marry 2d instead of 3d?or do you have to be married to 3d first then after that you're allowed to marry 2d?
Kagami Hiiragi <3
This is plain stupid. Marriage is a contract which requires both sides to give consent. A character can't marry. Isn't this just an April Fool joke?
Isn't that way too late for an April Fool joke?
Actually I think it's early :P We are closer to First of April 2009 than to First of April 2008.
*/me waving hand to Kyonko But well, it's such a hardcore idea, at least for me. ;D (Btw, its a 2d character, so can they do a polygamy?)
well there are eroge to create and "own" virtual girls..... lol, create your own waifu? wait, back to topic. marrying a 2D character: 1. what right would the 2D character have? to decline? 2. so when a new anime released 2 years later introduced a character I/you/he likes better, just divorce and remarry? wow
Err, this sounds crazy to me. Wonder what will the 2d characters do if they are alive? Object? Fight for their rights? The 2d characters have their couples too. Whats up next? Marrying inanimate objects? Marrying animals is done or so I've seen in those chinese period dramas.
No thanks... Do they jusr want to be married on paper with a 2D Character or do they also want the advantages of a real marriage like a lower tax class?
Dibs on Saber.
Hands off, she's mine! D=<
No you leechers she is mine!!!!
Wow, I didn't see this one coming! I'd ask Akira from Aria to marry me then! There's something about her that I really like but I can't seem to put my finger on.
When she was younger? o.o shes more cuter when she was younger...
I draw the line on otaku-isms like this. But, whatever floats anybody else's boat, as long as it's not harmful to others.
This is just sad. -_-
Sad, or business as usual? Lol I'm kinda desensitized by this stuff by now. Still surprising, but something that isn't out of the blue for Japan. Besides I'm kinda finding some of their lifestyles pretty RONERY
you cannot marry them... unless they are 18 or in some countries 21 right? so if they(2D girls) are created just like recently they are considered minors right? Further more... they cannot agree... since a marriage is a consensus of 2 being to live together legally... but the 2d girls cannot agree to the marriage unless their story boarder/creator agrees to it right? AHHHHH this is frustrating me!!! Can it happen! Can I finally marry Female Ranma at last!
Sorry, banging a cardboard cutout, just doesn't appeal to me. I can understand emotional attachment to a character, however I see it as a evasion of having to deal with "humans" in general.
Well, the are stranger things in the world. And since no one has said it yet... Lynette is mine! STAY AWAY!!! *grabs anti-tank rifle* XDDDD
Although an interesting topic to talk about, or even name who you'd marry. But on a serious note, what would be the point of this? Being married to a fictional character has no standing, other than title. What can you possibly benefit from marrying a fictional character? Happiness? If so, do you really need society's legal stamp of approval and acknowledgement? -- Now, if this was about a marriage with an AI, there may be room for discussion. But, we'll have to save that for another day.
Nothing this is done for the lulz. Not cool.
If the 2D girls became 3D then maybe I'd marry... Maybe...
so one million people signed the petition? hmm, this is getting crazier day by day.
Oohh...this will be a problem O_o I mean...then it's ACTUAL legal if someone on a random forum goes "I'M SASUKE'S WIFE!" ooh...the horror...O_o I don't know who I'd marry though
it's just so crazy >.<
Wow lol. The wedding ceremony would be so strange...
-"... and do you *2D girl name* happily live with mr.*1000th hub*?" -"..." *Tumble Weed rolls pass* -"..." -"Take that as a yes..."
The more people signing this, the more important it is to not allow it. Japan is already fighting a battle to get more babies, so marriage without the intention of children should be outlawed. It would be interesting if being single were outlawed too. Imagine arresting all single people and putting them on correction facilities and the only way to get out is to marry onesome they find in there. I don't know about happiness, but it would likely increase the number of children XD As for marrying a 2D character... never really thought about it. I guess a good candidate would be Eruruu from Utawarerumono. She is really cute and acts nicely. I guess she would also be a good mother (this is actually something I consider in 3D girls). However I don't think she will give me anymore children than any other 2D character, so I guess it just wouldn't work out :(
LOL @ the thought of outlawing staying single. What if the ratio of men to women were not equal? THEN WHAT? lol
I guess they would have no choice but to import otaku to compensate.
I would expect birthrate to drop further in Japan! lol but no not gonna marry a figure or 2D character ^^;;;
This is something that they won't even start to consider... It will never happen. If it does happen... that'll be another story ( ._.)/"
Good choice on Haruka Minami, i'd choose her too. She seems like the most practical person to marry ^^ Wonder what the wedding ceremony will be like? "You may now kiss the bride" *Kisses monitor*
LOL Well, that's Japan for you. I'll choose Haruhi, but there's no way I'll be safe with her..
As long as she doesnt get bored with you.....
Hilarious XD There will be a lot of many-to-one/one-to-many relationships XD (One 2D chara to hundreds of otaku)
I get to marry Nagi and/or Index, hurrah! ^^
well, god didn't make a pair for all human so human will make a pair for them seriously....i have no idea of loving an endless repetition of something tho we humans only repeat the cycle of life, but its not boring because its not as planned
If this will be passed, wars and chaos will raze the lands of anime fandom! xP
LOL. Nice. XD
It's funny, but eewwwww...
Holy crap, that's just sick! o____o;;
One step further, indeed. I can see nothing but problems. Most of those people signing obviously haven't thought it through...or need therapy. Declining birthrate, copyright issues, age-of-consent, legal age, polygamy, the whole thing is one big pothole o' problems. x_x"
Woah! /me wants to marry Signum ^___^;
I call Yuu-chan! XD
That's beyond my expectation for an otaku. If this were to happen to then the gov't would be a total bluff. I don't mind marrying a 2D being 3D if you know what I mean ^^;
One thing I am curious about.... if it is illegal to have more than one wife/husband at a time.... how about when you can marry 2D characters? Can 2,000 guys all marry the young lady above? If not, who decides who can marry her? Her creater? And I don't even want to start trying to figure out inheritance...
Yeah, as Panzer pointed out, if this thing actually goes through it'd be a legal nightmare--which is probably why it won't pass. And that's all ignoring the copyright issues.
I want to marry Tsurya =3
Are they having a bit of fun or are the people putting this up for petition dead serious? I would like to think its the latter, but knowing otakus... How does one marry an inanimate object and/or fictional character? :p
think this is going to be interesting... dont really know how its going to work out when a divorce happens... does the character's creator get 1/2 of their $$? :P
wait, what? are the anime industry buying into this and selling of characters to be wed? I really hope not... I think it's rather sad to see some of those memorable anime characters wed to some whacko nerd... <not to say I am not a nerd, but seriously...
So if a 2-D character is already married, could that 2-D character be chosen as someone else's "significant other"? I sense too many laws and issues that would come from this. I don't know. Maybe one day when technology is more advance and 2-D characters have a "personality" per se, then I could see this as semi-viable. But I don't see this happening right now. (Although, I would probably fight with Danny over Haruka. ^^; )
Yuki, definetly x'd
Just read about this on Sankaku Complex... kinda off-topic, but one of the things I like here in DC is that there's not Japan or japanese bashing because of stuff like this. Kinda tired of reading comments like "Japanese shure are weird" and similar stuff on other blogs... like Kotaku. I'm pretty shure I heard of cases in western countries of people wanting to marry computers or videogames... anyone remember these? Anyways, yep, definitely weird, but not a japanese exclusive. I'll take it as a joke. And I'll marry Taiga. XD Also, they should go ahead and approve poligamy too... this way 90% of Otakudom will all be able to marry Kona-chan, even though I also think it's wrong, since Kona-chan is Kagamin's only
this has me loling, it's an all-out otaku war zone.
if you're muslin does that mean you can have multiple 2D wives legally? XD
I think we've finally hit bottom with this, not that I'm judging people just saying to me its kinda sat that humanity would forsake its own. Just to join in the fun I'd probably pick the most obscure character I could find.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>I dont think I can do that at all. Real women are just to good. I would pick Sukura Haruno! d^^p
You must be kidding me...
Ummmmm 3D is better for me.
OMG this is soo cool linn minmay is going to be my waifu yay lol seriously i lol'd hard on this one
Utter absurdity, lol. They say they don't have interest in the 3D world, yet they want to bring fictional characters into the 3D institution of marriage? If you don't have interest in 3D reality, then draw yourself as a 2D character and keep your "marriages" within the 2D fantasy world... Duh, problem solved. ^.^
Actually one day AI will make possible to have a fictional character as a couple and this silly joke will be taken seriously then, in 50-70 years I think. Right now you are just trolling the Government for the lulz and that's not right. Meanwhile: Can't choose between Minamoto Chiharu or Kouzuki Karen.
See William Gibson's Idoru.
If they are taking this seriously then this is sad. *L* And if they are half-joking about this petition, they shouldn't be trying to get something so frivolous like this get passed. It's really making a mockery of the bureaucratic system and wasting tax dollars. Having said that, how would a couple like this set up a prenuptial?
I'd choose Arche from ToP, do you know why? Because "I bet she f*cks like a Tiger"
Does this law accept poligamy? Because I want to marry Mikuru too ^^
What a surprising article.
Only in Japan would this swing... And I have to say that that picture is a perfect representation of poor Mikuru's lot in life. And hilarious!
I would go for Tomoyo as my 2D wife and Kotomi as my figure bride (both characters are from the Clannad anime/game series
Me confused, what would marriage be if the wife didn't want half? And how would she take half unless... the animation studio takes... oh... lordy! I think I got this figured out now !
How would age of consent factor into this ? Are the 2d characters eternally based on the age appeared ? Or would they be based off age they were first drawn or trademarked ? And how would you even get the consent ? Would it have to be from the creator ?
What if the age is based on when the character was first published? Then all the interesting ones would be underage :P
what if people want to marry the same character?
Hey, I want to hear the 2D character's opinions on this matter! >:O
If they are allowed to be married, then I guess they should be treated as citizens with equal rights (at least the ones "born" in Japan). This means that they have the right to state their opinions as well. They should also be able to vote and I can't wait for the 2D politicians to show up.
... Continuing with my previous comment. I'd like to add; I'd like a tsundere, Eureka/Anemone type of girl. The personality and achievement to surpass physical attraction is ideal for me. I have no need for 2D girls. I only seek the portrayal of that character important in order for me to seek the answer for my present situation.
Wow this really surprised me. I foresee a lot of violence... (for their dream bride/groom ^^)
DIBS ON REI AYANAMI! SHE'S MINE! O_O
Man.....Now I've seen everything.
lolololololololololololol?
hahahaha...i guess only in japan for this one. at least it is not like human and animal love...hahahaha...chicken lover....hahahaha
No 2D marrying for me, unless polygamy is acceptable. I want a harem! >:) Preferably one with mostly cute girls. Possibly Kyon would be allowed in... Possibly.
The world's economy is at its worst, but no let's worry about marrying 2D characters LOL ^^
OMG! what would the world be >.< ... i'm not interested in marrying any 2D character... btw this was crossed in my mind... marriage is accepted if both say "i do", didn't your marriage with 2D character become 1 sided "i do"?
True...they can't really accept. What are the laws concerning polygamy in Japan? Using Mikuru as an example, many would want to marry her but she can only have one husband. There would be a shortage of 2D girls....
no! I'd rather the 2d marry a real person. hahahah. which would mean the 2d girl will have to find a way to become real. LOL
I signed it ^^; - how's my comment: 海外からのオタクの応援をつたえたい。 ぶちゃっけ、二次元のキャラの方がいい。 俺の場合にインデックスちゃんと結婚したい!
I don't think it's right. I think gay marriage should be allowed but marrying things which are not alive doesn't seem right. Next, will people wish to marry their pets?
Marriage between humans and products of human imagination would never work because it has really limited responses...unless the creator is involved....I sense copyright problems on the horizon if this passes...
Hm the problem that many would try to lay claim to one character makes it confusing...
Since poligamy is illegal in japan (i think) then it would be an OTAKU BATTLE to decide which otaku who have right to marrying a 2D character. For example, OTAKU BATTLE for marrying... lets say... Sanya..? (And possibility a blood bath battle will occure) XD But... even i love 2D girl so much, i still prefer 3D for my waifu... :)
This is something outrageous... 2D girls aren't real you know....
I find this rather sad...
That is too weird for me.
More jobs for creators of 2D characters!
Hahahaha... 2nd that. A positive outcome from this weird case.
This is really doesn't make sense.
lol, if it was a prank is getting out of control. hmm any way if the law gets passed marring a 2d character could be a big business you will need a license from the creator XD
THIS THIS IS WHAT MAKES JAPAN AWESOME
NO WAY! I cant see the future anymore lol
It has to be a joke otherwise it's just too weird even for japanese standards.
theres so many wrong things that can happen LOL.... 1) arranged 2D marriage 2) same secks 2D marriage 3) 2D wives/husbands passed on to generations.. ^^;
lol if I had to pick a same gender character then I'd pick Taiga from ToraDora!
I'm all for equal rights, but this? You have to draw the line somewhere - pun intended! ...But seriously... a 2D person technically dosen't even exist. Only on paper. There are a whole bunch of other factors other people are pointing out too...
I call Asakura Ryoko! I mean no one wants her, right? I did a text search, so I'm safe, right? I'm just gonna assume what I did was legally binding and ignore all naysays. Should work.
The internet wont be safe anymore if this happens >.< forums will be filled with nothing but fights!!! Or maby even in the outside world NOEESS THE BLOODSHEAD!!!!!
And the future of mankind sees a sharp decrease in birthrates. But what the hell, more money for yourself than for your unwanted hellspawn.
Just watched this on TV in here!
I guess if this was made legal, I'll marry Miku Hatsune lulz XDDD
Very soon, Japanese animators, studios and entertainment companies will be busy drawing up wives to sell. Various choices available, from lolis to tsundere types. Paradise.
in more logic way/ positive way: how bout built a android wife feature anime characteristic you like?
i'd rofl@a divorce with a 2d character..
I refer to marry 2D chara XD
Doing it for the lulz? =p
If you saw a doujin or fanart of your 'wife' character making out or having relationships with other characters, would that make it an affair? XD
If I never meet my real 3D part-Japanese fiancee, Danielle; Tifa Lockhart would have been the 2D girl I'd choose....lucky for Cloud, lol XD
If they're the perfect man character that can cook for me I'm fine with that. Maybe the otakus need to learn more programing skills and create a game for the Wii where they can interact with they're 2D spouses. OH HO HO NAUGHTY.
I think you should have permission to marry someone's character. I'm an artist and writer, so I have a deep connection with my characters; they are like an extension of myself. I'd feel somewhat violated if someone married my character without my consent.
... So, will gay 3D/2D couples be allowed to marry, or will they have to have a parade for that one too?
that is really funny i hope it works!
This will be some huge polygamy XDD I wonder how many husbands would have someone like Haruhi, Feito or Nanoha. Well then, thinking about safety I won't choose Feito or Shana. Maybe Tomoyo or Kotomi. Or Maria, or Matsuri... wait she's not even a human. This could be another problem XD
This is way too weird for me. Oh and I could have sworn that someone wanted to marry a voice. Not a person. Not a person. A voice. Oh wait. I fall into one of those cases. 8 years ago or so, I wanted to marry Hayashibara Megumi-san's voice. Ha ha ha! Boy, I sure was quite the renegade back then. Well, I now find that too weird as well.
It's stupid...BEYOND stupid actually. IE crashed T_T;....Ate my message. 1. You can not have intermite relations with a 2D character. (Unless you are some sicko with a pillow or whatever) 2. You can't go to the movies with a 2D character. 3. You can not have a romantic dinner with a 2D character. 4. Encouraging pedo activy MUCH! (How many high school characters are there) I mean a lot of characters I like are "mature" aged men, but there are acceptions to that...Like I like Nagi Souichiro, I'm older then him by a few years, while I'm sure people don't see much of a problem with a 17 year old and a 23 year old going out...But what about those 15-17 year old characters that some 30+ year old likes...SICK!....
This is a pretty screwed up case. What would you do after marrying a 2d character? I'm already pretty sad that some of my favourite anime/manga characters have been used in degenerating doujin, but this is going too far!
Yeah, what profit would I have if I marry a 2D character? Boast about it? I wouldn't be surprised if people want to marry a plant or who-knows-what-else? Now, a animal - I understand(though this will be zoophily) ***** Here's a joke: >>>>> A guy goes to a doctor and tells him that he likes to plug animals. The doctor asks him what gender does he prefer - male or female. The guy yells: - Well, of course female! What kind of sick and twisted man do you think I am!?
Assuming that the character is popular the party would be engaged to multiple spouses Also, so characters might be under the legal marriage age too.
I wouldn't marry one though but ehh >__< LOL at Haruhi CHibi =3
