Japanese Children

Have always wanted to capture this in a photo for many moons now - children being lead holding onto a rope.
I saw something similar to this back in the UK but the big difference was that the children's hands were *tied* together. I remember laughing a lot when I saw that ^^;

Do they lead chiildren around like this in your neck of the woods too?

Not anymore, rather they put them in high vis jackets and walk the streets with the to school. ^_^ Not sure about in Hackney....perhaps they needed to be tied together >_<

That's such a cute sight, they're so adorable walking together holding on to the rope.
I have never seen such a thing in Australia, although I do remember there were these leashes which were designed to strap on to toddlers like a belt. It stops them from wandering too far away. Just like people walking dogs using leashes..

yes I've also seen a kid leashed with this belt like... actually it's more like a backpack strap connected to a longer rope.... just like dogs.. seen it with my friends in a Mall but we failed to capture it on photo.

and no, I'm not sure about the suburbs but in my area the kids' parents would have a driver and a babysitter to take care of them (richer type). sometimes people don't send their kids to nursery anyway and even in nursery I don't think they conduct any outdoor lesson

Yeah, that's the one (the backpack-like strap). They are a rare sight here in Australia... Most children who can walk still travel around in a pram anyway.

I haven't heard of excursions during pre-school days... unless it's a small group of children. I'm sure they will use something like this when it comes to walking around crowded areas.

We have (or used to have, I don't see them anymore >.<) some sort of belt/backpack thing that children could wear. Then the leash (more than one string) was somewhat short. The idea is that an adult holds the leash and the kid can walk on it's own. If the kid trips, then the adult can pull the leash and prevent the kid from hitting the ground. It's designed for younger kids though. but it's really useful for training kids to walk.

Not in schools, but there are some parents here that have their kids on leashes. These leashes are actually either on their belt or their neck, which I think is horrible.

That, however, with the ropes and safety rings thing, is cute.

I know much worst scenarios, especially aggressive children. There are cases in Canada where children become so aggressively disruptive that their parents had to tie a harness to a piece of rope where the other end is on the parent's hand in fear the child might become so disruptive, it could really damage stores. I'm glad these children are happy and aren't wondering off like some North American kids.

Havent seen that here... usually, teachers have kids form a line with their arms holding the shoulder of the kid in front of them...

Well, I have seen some parents here having their kids on a leash when shopping... i think its quite weird, since it'll look like you're treating your kids just like the way to do to your dog...

Having to babysit my little brother so often has made me not enjoy being around young children that much. That being said, I always respect the teachers that can be around them year round and put hope in their hearts at such a young age. These kids look adorable! <(^_^)>

Here in the states, elementary kids get out of line by acting their age and risk being shocked and tased by the police officer on duty.

I'm not joking, I've seen kids tied up with some special kind of leash that ties around their bodys or their hands. You usually see them running around trying to free themselves.

Actually, scrape that... I didn't SEE it, I DID it as a kid.
Can't remember seeing kids doing that nowadays. But probably because I don't see lots of kids much.

Streets aren't very safe in Brazil, and since I don't go to museums/zoos/other places kids go with their classes...

Oh, while I was in Japan I did see several times cute kids with those red bags going around metro stations and streets.

Some of them have very high fashion sense... XD Kids using hats, acessories and stuff.

I think that pretty much tells you how safe a place is. Something you NEVER see in Brazil is kids walking around by themselves.

Just another reason I want to move to Japan.

This is a super picture. I've never seen anything like that in Japan or the UK.

My wife and I always put our daughter on a harness+leash when she was a toddler. It was good for when she fell over or to stop her wandering off. Once we let her off the leash in Kew Gardens and Blam! she was off like a rocket, running for the horizon. I got a great picture of it.

Anyway, leashes are a good idea. If Jamie Bulger's mother had put him on a leash he would not have got murdered.

Here you often see daycare groups with children tied (think like a harness around their torso) to a rope, being lead by an adult.
Seems kinda inhumane to me, and my mom is always like "I paid extra so you wouldn't have to go through stuff like that".

A few years ago there was a daycare grouup walking though a park not far from here. They didn't use ropes or anything (I don't think it's even allowed to use here). One of the kids ended up drowning in a pond and the adults didn't even realise that they were missing a child until the police showed up to inform that he was dead (here the police always shows up in person and informs if somebody died). I have to say that I was surprised that they never noticed a missing child on their own. I mean I think they had like 2 hours or so to figure it out.

I have not seen it before in my own eyes, whether it's in Hong Kong or in the UK, but I did remember a news article showing a housewife tying her two children's hands to her waist so they don't run away. Some people think it's not right to do so, but she claimed that she does so because she has no better ways to keep them in range on busy streets.

Aww, that's a cute thing to see on the streets, and would definitely lighten up people's days.
Here in the states, pre-school/kindergarten kids don't usually walk out in the public like that. When I was driving around the city, I noticed that a daycare center has their own beautifully painted buses, driving the kids around.

The above picture reminded me of a picture of kids being in carts, being pushed by the care taker. xD

Wow that's one way to keep the kids in line...closest thing to this was kids pairing up and holding hands and walking in a straight line...

Over here they either walk in single file or they pair up and follow the teacher.
I've seen a lot of those harnesses for children and some of them are dressed up so that it looks like a monkey is hugging your kid and your leading by the tail. But I still think that children shouldnt be put on a leash.

Back in kindergarten here, the boys and girls held hands and marched with the teacher.
I'm not sure if I used to do that though; I used to stand behind everyone else. =P

I seen something like this around here where i live but I find it rather disturbing. The kid would be wearing something that makes him or her look like they are on a leash. I think they tried to make it look cute by taking the strap around the kid look a monkey but I don't find it cute at all. its more sickening. kids are not animals. here is a picture i found on google http://transitlibrarian.com/uploaded_images/monkeyleash-743513.jpg

They make us stay in a straight line over here, but not connected by a rope or anything. Not sure about nowadays, but when I was little, everyone pretty much obeyed the rules and stayed in the line.

The kids hold hands, while teachers and police escort the children. I just used to wait in line when I was little while waiting for my parents or the bus.
