Yet more groundbreaking technology from the land of the rising sun. Folks who live in Japan will know that there are always folks sleeping on the trains like this fellow and that many people miss their stops because of this. But thanks to this device, one can sleep with piece of mind that they will never miss their stop - in theory. As you can see from the video below - the person who wants to get some kip on the train simply wears the blindfold to block out the bright lights of the train carriage. A display on the blind fold scrolls along and says "I'm getting off at Mejiro (station)." Nobody woke him up... Japan is probably the only country in the world where you can go to sleep on a train and wake up with your belongings intact. Ah, nearly forgot to mention - school girls sleep on the train too and have a habit of leaning on your shoulder. Via Kirainet.
School girls leaning on your shoulder? That's sweet ^^
Damn right. Makes me wanna move, but then Dannyman's article about the whole moving process put me off T_T
Wait, what? which article would that be? Link or name of article, please.
\(>o<)/Gyaaaaaaa! It's things like school-girls-leaning-on-your-shoulder that keeps reminding me that I'm born in the wrong side of the world! Why was I born in the wrong side of the world?! _| ̄|○
Lol no problem with them sleeping on my shoulder. Just as long at they don't drool on me (O_O)
Oh, they can drool on me all they want. Lol, fantasies are just shooting across in my mind, but I know they will never be true.
If a nice girl sleeps on my shoulder maybe it's me who drool on her
I was taking an express from Tskuba to Akihabara and the really good looking school girl falls asleep next to me. First her head hits my shoulder...sweet...a few stops later she scratches her nose while asleep and places hand very close to my dolphin. When she woke up and realized she apologized profusely. I'm like "no problem".
That was really lucky of you :P
How close? =p
Unfortunately, salary men to the same thing... >.<
LOL, you can choose by siting near the scool girl or the salary man x'DDD Sleeped girl panchira shot! Action!!
Mental image XD
What if you sat between a salary man and a nice looking school girl and they both fell asleep on your shoulder?
Heaven and Hell! XD
As do old,smelly, unattractive women... XP
A girl slept/leaned on my shoulder on a crowded train once. Then a manga "phonebook", someone left behind on the rack above us, fell and hit her on the head. I tried my best not to laugh.
That is one of the things that makes me want to go to Japan! Schoolgirls, here I come... literally! LOL XD
just like in lucky star....
i like how they added those bobble eyes. Is that "SEX" written on his shirt? maybe thats why nobody woke him up.
It could be 'SFX'?
i agree that is cute ^^ school girl leaning on your shoulder ^^ i have felt that b4 lol ^^ its nice ^^
haha I think a better gadget would be to have a strap on the train to the passenger and then when you head to the station you need to be in...ELECTRIC SHOCK! that should help.
what about just hanging a big sign board around your neck. wake me up at ... station and i'll give you 100 yen. that might work
more cost effective.
Use a dry erase board or use semi permanent marker. Reusable is the key.
... Perhaps they were too surprised by the blindfold? I'm sure the schoolgirl sleeping on shoulder idea is cute and all but.. isn't that also a bit wrong, well for the girls at least? XD Thank you for sharing this interesting information with us, Danny ^^
Wackyness continues...hmzz I guess I should take the first JP train I see and hope some girlie leans on me ^^
Wear a T-shirt with "Comfy" and arrows pointing to your shoulders.
Hmm... Well in Singapore you can sleep on the train and also wake up with all your belongings intact. Although this device is pretty cool. But it wouldn't work here. People here are too "polite" to bother you in your peaceful slumber.
well in chile it usual to sleep on the subway to, and usually your belongs are still on you when wake up
Oh, that's not true... Specially when the "Metro" is crowded. I happened like... 2 times.
Woah, I saw so many ppl sleeping in the Trains and Subways that make you feel sleepy. So I always sleep when I sit. I lost my wallet last week with US$ 450,00 and someone gave it to Lost and Found intact!!! Viva o Japao!
OMG really!ppl in japan are so nice. O.O
OMG that can't be true 0.0
once a school girl fall asleep beside me on the bus. her head rested onto my chest for the rest of the trip. ^^;
I hope she is cute LOL
i think she looks OK. i didn't want to disturb her so i just let her head rest there. i just pretend to be asleep too. ^^;
Oookay... I want to experience that too!
u want to experience resting your head onto someone's chest? ^^;
Question is... where did your hands rest for the rest of the trip...
obviously he had to hide something...
folded across my chest. ^^;
That's it, I'm going to be standing whenever I board a train from now on.
Talk about " TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT " "Ah, nearly forgot to mention - school girls sleep on the train too and have a habit of leaning on your shoulder." this is how i got to know my 4th ex-girlfriend but its on a public vehicle. A Shuttle trip (point a to point b). I had to enjoy her drool till she woke up. The reward was sweet anyways. Here in clovisland, people will eat your items if they caught you sleeping.
same here, im sure that if you fell sleep in a Densha you'll wake up nude XD
Wow A camera on a train and no up skirting or any pervy stuff.
Schoolgirls? leaning on my shoulder? DO WANT
What the schoolgirkls actually really do lean on your shoulder?I always thought of this as something like a Anime/MAnga Cliche
What! Sleeping schoolgirls on a train!
when I was a sleep deprived schoolgirl riding a bus long way back home, I almost nodded off into this old dirty guy's armpit... the guys sitting across me didn't try to wake me up, when I woke with a start and realize where I was sleeping into I saw that they were trying very hard not to laugh at me grrrr
Awww... Sleeping in different areas don't really help your public image. I almost always have the urge to fall asleep in class, but at least it's not a few minutes before, when I'm driving to class. I also think the worst part of that is that as soon as class is done, I'm not sleepy anymore. It's only when I drive to that I get really really sleepy. I almost dozed off that one time...
It's quite natural that you aren't sleepy after class... after all you just slept :P I bet several people already told you this, but you should sleep before class, which would be during the night. Try to go to sleep earlier in the night and your grades is likely to improve.
well that school at the time was like school from hell :P I think I stay in school for longer than 12 hours most of the time due to compulsory extra curricular activities and by the time I get home I'm super tired but have to stay up to finish my homework, and study for midterms... worse time of my life EVER ^^; It was impossible to get enough sleep esp before exams ^^;
I always fell asleep in school. e.e; My head just straight on the desk on my arms... teacher would poke me with a pen to wake me up. :o
^^;
It wouldn't be nice to wake you up. It was clear that you needed to sleep. You shouldn't be upset with the help from a gentleman, even if he appears to be a dirty old man. Maybe it pays to be dirty and old. I'm neither and I haven't seen any sleeping girls in public transportation.
trust me, you don't want to sleep into anyone's arm pit :P
To this day, chun has been my friend after sleepin in my armpit.
you dirty old man :P
Hey, me not that old...
Nice idea. However it's not like it's a great breakthrough from a technological point of view. It's just a stock FPGA or microcontroller that operates a LED display. A skilled person can develop this concept in say less than an hour. I like the concept though. If I should have made it, I would rather have used a vibrator from a phone and turn it on when a GPS tells that you are near the goal. This removes the risk that nobody wakes you up (say if you are alone on the train). While you can build this out of development boards like in this video, it would be possible to add this feature to a mobile phone. All it needs is the vibrator and GPS. Now that this idea is on the internet it shouldn't take long before somebody codes some mobile phone software with this feature (if it's not there already. I didn't check).
There are always some people who takes small naps in the public transports (including myself) here in Portugal. ^_^; I don't think that you'd get robbed for that, unless you seem to be completely knocked out and there are really few people in the transport I guess. But I'd never let myself to fall into deep sleep. It's just too embarrassing to wake up on someone else's shoulder (I tend to fall my head to the front thought lol)! >_<;
Taking naps on a train, especially four-seaters, is plain awesome. It just sucks when you wake up 3 stations down the line from yours.
It can be even worse. I was once told about a guy at school (not my class though) that used the bus to get to school. One day the bus driver woke him up at the end of the line and that was 90 minutes after he was supposed to get off and 80 minutes after classes started. He was somewhat lucky though because the bus driver managed to get him on a bus that was taken out of service (end of rush hour), and it dropped him off on the way back to the garage. It only took him around 40 minutes to get back to school. Another nice story about sleeping in public transportation is another guy who fell asleep in the train. He woke up and saw that he was supposed to get off at the previous station. He didn't have time to leave the train so he was forced to go with it. It turned out that the train had been all the way to the end of the line and was now heading back.... so in a way he managed to wake up 4 minutes before he was supposed to get off like he usually does :D
For some reason I just cant imagine any schoolgirl falling asleep on my shoulder, im scary ~myuu ^^.
Well I wouldn't say the only country in the world, when I was in New York on the ferry to the Statues of Liberty there were 5 Korean girls sleeping like babies on the boat, the waves (Hudson river) were so big because of an incoming storm and the boat wouldn't stop moving from side to side and still they were sleeping, lot's of people took pictures with them for fun and when one of them woke up I saw the most embarrassed person the world, I felt really sorry for the girls but it was funny as hell XD
"Japan is probably the only country in the world where you can go to sleep on a train and wake up with your belongings intact." - You are probably right, I have heard that doing this in some countries you might not wake up at all...
I second that...
thirtied! i wanna be there!!! T_T
ah. memories of Bali. was in a van on the way back from the white water rafting centre back to the hotel when these two hot Japanese girls who were in their bikini tops boarded the van and sat next to me. 10 minutes on the way back, one of them was leaning on me shoulder sleeping. ah the joy ^^
ROFL, I saw that some days ago... I think it'll become more effective when we have very thin, cheap, commercial OLED screens (we already have them on prototype stage, very expensive, very thin, non-commercial). This guy is ahead of times. :P
I say the photo really makes it look like a homemade prototype. I'm not sure it's such a good idea after all. I mean if it is, then everybody will wear one and everybody will miss their station. I think GPS (as I mentioned earlier) would be the way to go for a "wake me up" sign. This display can be useful for a whole lot of other stuff though.
lol this dude is innovative, he could make a better looking one for commercial purpose :-D imagine when u ride the public transport, u put it on and it displays "CHECK IF I'M STILL BREATHING, I HAVE ASTHMA"
Then people will wake him up all the time to check if he is ok :P
Schoolgirl leaning on mah shoulder??? JAPAN... here I come!!! ^_^ I always take a nap when I take public transport... usually it will take me less than 5 min to go sleep mode. Never leaned on people's shouder before, since I always lean my head to the side window/glass... About girls leaning on my shoulder while taking train, maybe one or twice.. can't really remember..
I'm not all that surprised no one woke him up. As for high school girls leaning on my shoulders... *gets on the first plane to Japan*
I just got a rather silly image of DCers flying to Japan and then spending all their time riding around the subway system. The time not spent in Akihabara anyway. I sleep on public transport all the time - best way to make use of time, as someone who has lots of work, little sleep, and long commutes. It's funny, because I've developed a weird internal clock that wakes me up one stop before mine - and it works no matter where I'm going. ^^; It's a bit freaky, actually, since I manage to do it even when I'm heading to some place I've never been to before.
This was one of those chindogu things back in the 90s. But it just used a whiteboard.
Well they can try shock collars set to go off at your stop...that'll definitely wake him up... Although it would be a dream to have a cute school girl leaning on my shoulders...isn't it usually really crowded in there?...
I frequently nap on the busses here, I don't think Ive ever heard or seen a theft from a sleeping person. About the shoulder leaning thing, there was one time when I kinda drooped to one side onto this guys shoulders, he kept nudging me haha, kinda embarrasing, but when you're half asleep, you tend not to really care :P
Are Japan bus or train rides really long enough to warrant sleeping on them?
Some people travel for two hours to get to work and the same when they go home again. Since they also have long working hours and stuff that needs to be done at home, then the time for sleep suffers. Some of them need the time in the train in order to get enough sleep.
Nice Shirt
schoolgirls... shoulder... must get to japan.
The Video is on the Yamanote line and I have fond memories of Tabata station as its where I got my huge Tiger Tattoo done just off Tabata station :)
My theory to why they fall asleep is that Japanese people work too hard!!
Heh, that just looks like someone got bored and had some extra LED displays lying around. Now, they just need to integrate a GPS or similar, that actually knows what station you are at, and wakes you up automatically.
I already said that it should use GPS and that some mobile phones should be able to do this without extra hardware (read back).
Sorry, didn't feel like reading back through every single post.
I just got a new idea. If this is all about figuring out what the LED display can be used for, I would totally go for writing "empty space for rent". It could also be more daring and say stuff like "Dolphin cleaning headmaster". It could also be as simple as the clock or current speed (that would need GPS). If it were a monospace text display instead I would totally get it to show Star Wars as ASCII art. If you don't know it, then follow this link: http://www.asciimation.co.nz/ Do you have any other ideas on what it would be interesting to display?
"Japan is probably the only country in the world where you can go to sleep on a train and wake up with your belongings intact." Now isn't that useful to know. And who wouldn't want a schoolgirl to lean on his sholder... or why not two while we're at it?
wooohooo, school girl sleeping on your shoulder should be put into place everywhere else in this world. But i wouldn't mind sleeping on a good lucking japanese school-girl's shoulder on the train. hopefully it leads more into those eroge stories....hm, a dream within a dream i guess, XP XD
Worst invention ever.
Nahh, I have seen worse stuff :P
id love to have a nice girl sleeping on my shoulder, but id prob end up sleeping on someone :(
