Gumbo goes Bankrupt

Gumbo goes Bankrupt
The free manga Gumbo has filed for bankruptcy with debts of 200,000,000 yen (1.78 million USD) .
Lack of advertisers and rising cost have lead to the unfortunate demise of the free manga.

agreed, theres not much to laugh about there. At least five companies in my field went out of business in the last two weeks, and it seems to be a regular thing lately. Makes me worried, but my company is doing better this year than last.. only one of 7 in Arizona that has done better this year than last.

Oh my god, so it's true that Japan's in "mild recession", as shown by their declining economic growth!

Yeah, that's the reason why Japan's in mild recession.

Japan's an export-oriented country, and because a lot of country, and especially the US, is in recession, the demands for goods from Japan's declined and that hurts Japan a lot!

Which is too bad, considering the products coming from some other countries are inferior.. but cheaper. But then cheaper lands you with issues in production quality/safety.. and Im not just talking about China (so no one go there)

@DRAGUN: Europe is not really having a credit problem. It was mostly because of the American mortgage crisis that Europe stock markets went down big time.

this is very unfortunate for Gumbo. i have a theory that maybe one of the factors that lead to Gumbo's demise is their distribution channels. probably that their distribution channels are not favorable to some of their sponsors and advertisers (potential or otherwise)

At least it was briefly featured here... I still wonder why they kept on going with the activities until the debt reached that absurd amount.
When you got the equivalence of one quarter or one half-million to pay back, you already are sure that something is not right. Too bad it did not work... This seemed a great concept to me.

I dont know, a lot of companies can come back into the black when they are over even half a million in the red (debt). My dad used to be a consultant for businesses to help them get back in the black. Its not too hard, just have to run the business right. But being this far in debt is different.

This is really a $%#$ shame.

I was thoroughly enjoying their online service http://gumbo.jp which has only recently revamped their layout and introduced a cool new feature whereby you can take manga frames and add text boxes, superimpose your own picture, etc.

In fact, that's how I've generated images for use in our online language learning site iKnow!

I recommend you all try the site before it shuts down!
