Finally finished my CG of the character Hakurei Reimu from Touhou Project. Took almost 2 weeks to complete... as I've been quite busy with other stuff... Now I'm quite happy with how it turned out in the end.

BUT I sorta feel that I'm lacking something in the background... If anyone has any suggestions, by all means tell me and I might consider trying to add it in.
Feedback is welcome, as this is my FIRST EVER attempt with creating a background to go with the character.

Looks great to me, i dont know touhou project, but somehow i thorugh prehaps a shrine or something stonehenge like, might fit in the background.

Thanks for the comments so far, a shrine would be nice in the background.
For this piece, what I had in mind was, spirits/ghosts in the background which she is sealing. The ones which I did add... I guess they're very difficult to spot behind those lights... Didn't really notice it until now.

I, Zephi, i am also a Anime Artist in training, i like your draw, if you ask to others members opignion, it fell like you are not satisfied enough of it ?
For me i have to comment it, the draw is well done, you know like me that we can every time do better if we take more time to draw it, but well it's well drawed, for the brackground it's is well too [ i am not very good at background, hard to comment] a missing thing to it to be better ? A moon maybe and why not^^ for the digital work i think you are beginning, you certainly have to try others things to own^^, More you will practice, more you will be good at this, some smoothing brush and Gaussian Blur is not the only things, some tools can give better result if you ad it to gaussian blur and others :P, for the inking, its vectorial, i don't have see others of your draw but i think using pressure even with vectoriel give better result also^^, i am not again to share advice if you want^^

I agree with satsujinkenyo, a moon would be very nice and why not trying to add some ghosts around that miko (i guess she's a miko)

This might be a bit much to do but i think having large clouds almost to blanket the sky but with shades of orange and red on it from the sun setting at a distance, guess you have to put orange highlights on your character too which i think would look cool but probably be a significant amount of work to do.

It's very hard to judge my own work, which is why I ask for others thoughts and opinions. I really like how the character came out. But like I said, the background isn't up to scratch. It would be a waste if I didn't improve the background (I think).

I might add a few ghosts around, not sure about a moon, because it will change the atmosphere too much.

As for the inking, I would love to be able to use pressure, BUT I am only using a mouse, and I don't have a pallete.

Writer.
Find a picture of the Hakurei Shrine (there're bound to be lots out there) and use it. Trust me, it's the most fitting background for this drawing.

And please do one of Sayuka next time! :P

If I were to include the shrine in the background, would it be a closeup or in the distant??
Would she be better inside a room (eg. a dark room full of charms, magical objects etc), or outside with the Hakurei shrine towering behind her (blocks out the sky).

I might think about Sakuya, I also do like her... But it might come at a later time because I want to do another Miku piece first as I have some ideas in mind for her already.
