My "Aria" computer now comes with Aqua inside! Since it was a running a bit too hot for comfort I bought a Zalman Reserator 1 V2 water cooling kit for it. The kit was very easy to install, fits like a glove inside the case (tubes were easy to guide thanks to the included I/O bracket) and now the temperatures are much lower. More text and images on my blog entry at MAL. Also makes for a good display position for my Yuki Nagato swimsuit figure though I should find something to secure her so she doesn't fall off...
Needs some sort of sticker for that... Ok, I'm not familiar with water cooling, but is that the radiator tower that Yuki's on? How does the PVC go with the temp? Nice choice of theme by the way, though I've always been more of a fan of the Manga artwork personally.
The lower part of the Reserator gets lukewarm to the touch, the top actually stays fairly cool so I'm less worried about the Reserator being too hot than her getting some direct sunlight rays. Yeah, Kozue Amano's manga art is great! ^^ But for backgrounds and the print on the case the anime art was more suitable since it's more crisp and clear.
what are the temps like now? hovering around the 25-30deg mark?
Not quite that low, idle is usually 30-34 and load 36-40. Which is half of what it was before. ^^ It still is a passive cooling solution so that's quite good, what it arrives to do is funnel the heat of the case which was the problem before, all the heat was trapped inside.
Nice Wave keyboards. I'm surprised u got 2. xD
why do you have 2 monitor?
I have 2 computers, next to Akari-chan on the desk I also have Motoko-chan, a tower on the floor next to the desk, you can see her bottom right of the picture with an an external hard drive on top.
It was nice to get a shot of your computer without its cover over at your blog - I was wondering how much space was left in there. Seems like quite a bit. :P The blue tubes look awesome considering the whole theme you've got going. Just a question: was there any particular reason you put the radiator tower on your desk? It looks quite precarious standing near the edge of your loft railing, let alone Yuki sitting on top of it. Couldn't it have gone on the floor or something?
Alas not with the Reserator 1 V2 model, its maximum lift is 50 centimeters meaning you can put it only 50 centimeters higher or lower than the computer it's connected to. So it would have been too low if down on the floor. The newer Reserator XT has a maximum lift of 150 centimeters though. I might consider doing something about the railing indeed. But if you have a desk up against the wall it can topple over on the desk as well.
Is that Ubuntu I see running on the smaller monitor?
Mandriva 2008.1, I'm trying to get more into Linux so I can switch from Windows, it's been fun but challenging!
That's a nice setup. A silent Working-PC is convenient. Considering the hardware I guess Mac OS X Leopard would run fine on the Aria PC.
I want that set up....
Soo enviable man, your setup is so well-attuned to your style and preferences. I'm just glad the case I built actually worked when I turned it on! BTW as the water probably needs to circulate, how's the noise generated by that cooling unit? Never used one before, so jsut don't know
The first hours when there's still some air in the circuit a low hum is audible, but now that the circuit is completely degassed (free of air bubbles) it's absolutely silent, I have to put my ear against the Reserator to hear the pump. (The bottom of the Reserator has rubber padding btw so it transmits little to no vibrations onto the surface it rests on.) I have very sensitive hearing in regards to computer generated noise (I even pick up the backlight hum of a perfectly good working screen or power adapter) and this is one of the quietest components I have come across.
