Summer Anime 2008

(Anime(92)

So Summers nearly over now and Autumn has many shows in stock for us. Am particularly looking forward to Kemeko DX and Nodame.

But how was the summer season of anime? For me its Strike Witches, Sekirei, Macross and Geass. Have stocked Zero no Tsukaima but have not got around to consuming.
Was enjoying birdy for a while but not many of my comrades were recording it for me for some reason.
Have only just started out on Haruka Nogizaka - cant wait to grab her oppai (mousepad) week after next.

So what were the highlights and lowlights for you?

Sanya Image captured using VLC. Speaking of VLC, what media player do you use? VLC is probably the only player that plays everything on a mac. I certainly don't miss my Windows days when I had to go and look for codecs which would screw up the registry.

I use KM Player http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/index.php
Uses only its built-in codecs, so much* better performance on Hi-def .mkv files that are so popular lately compared to VLC, my previous player.

Geass, Macross, Soul Eater, Strike Witches, Sekirei, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu were on my watch list this season. Looking forward to Gundam 00, and Nodame.

It plays, if you install real player. The program uses internal codecs, but if it doesn't have it, it search your computer for the proper one.
Yep, KMPlayer is the one!

I use to use Zoomplayer but it went ape on me and wouldnt play subtitles one day no matter what..so I switched to KMP and KMP is just better in many ways anyway..like I can make it so subtitles dont show up on my screenshots without disabling the subtitles so I just can cap like mad and not worry about the subtitles showing up. KMP=win

Code Geass, Macross Frontier and Daughter of 20 Faces were my fave picks for the summer. On windows I use the CCCP codec pack and my personal favorite Media Player Classic. If this combo can't play it, it doesn't exist. Now I got Nodame, Clannad, Gundam 00 and few OAVs to look forward to.

I've been watching Zero no Tsukaima and Tetsuwan Birdy, but that's about it. Tried watching World Destruction for a while, but the male protagonist had as much personality as a cardboard box. I've been getting Zero no Tsukaima and Tetsuwan Birdy streamed on Veoh.com or torrented from isohunt.com and animesuki.com.

I too use VLC. It plays stuff Media Player and Quicktime won't touch, including some partially broken files. And insanely enough, somebody was thoughtful enough to make it compatible with the iMac remote.

I use Media Player Classic with all of CCCP running.
For me it started out with Strike Witches, Code Geass R2, Macross Frontier, Hidamari Sketch x365, Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, Koihime Musou, Birdy. It quickly went down to Strike Witches, Macross F, Hidamari Sketch.
Lowest point of the season by far was Geass R2 which was plagued with terrible writing.

Fall season there's 14 series I want to watch but in the end I'll probably only end up sticking with 3 or 4. Ones I'm dieing to see are Ef Tale of Melodies, Casshern SINS, and Tytania.

Mplayer OS X is far superior to VLC on the Mac. I use it all the time. It even has the GUI conforming to the layout like the rest of the system. Just gotta set the parameters right and you're all set. Funny thing is just before I came here I was looking at Sanya at Gelbooru haha.

I like CCCP (combined community codec pack) it's definitely non-invasive and it plays everything I throw at it with precision. I have VLC just in case, but the playback isn't as accurate sometimes - it depends.

I've mostly been watching older series such as Da Capo and Sola. I'm keeping up with Zero no Tsukaima and Nogizaka Haruka though.

For me, I'm using Windows Media Player and K-Lite codec pack (used this for over a year now). I've had zero issues with this setup and so far it's played everything I've thrown at it (except one time when I gave it an .mkv file with FLAC audio).

The fall season for anime is going to be insane.

Another Media Player Classic user who dl'd it with CCCP. Only maintenance I need to do is a simple uninstall and reinstall when encoders move on to something new every few years. VLC's some degree of crap compared to MPC.

Only watching Geass this summer after dropping all the other series I was following early on (Macross, Koihime, ToLoveRu, Slayers, World Destruction, and some others), but I'll probably marathon the ones that get highly recommended. Quite looking forward to the Lucky Star OVA later this month.

Been watching only Code Geass R2 and Macross Frontier for the summer. Both had great start but stories got really lame towards the end... So just waiting for the last episode and see how the ending for both series will turn out to be.

Also watched some Sekirey, Slayers Revolution and Birdy the Mighty but only like about 2-3 episodes. I want to catch up later if possible.

Only series I'm looking forward for fall is Mobile Suit Gundam OO Season 2. I hope it does not end up like Code Geass R2 -_-

I use the Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP) with Zoom Player. So far it's the best codec pack for fansub playback because VLC is not able to render Advanced Styled Subs properly and those subs are used a lot nowadays.

As for the shows, my highlights are so far Macross Frontier, Code Geass R2 and Soul Eater. I liked Allison to Lillia and Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Natsu no Sora too but the fansubs are far behind the aired episodes unfortunately.

On OS X I use MPlayer for most stuff and VLC for the rest... VLC usually gets the work done if everything else fails but VLC is terrible with softsubs, at first you most likely wont mind how VLC does them but when you see how the subs should be done you will absolutely hate VLC :P

On Windows I use zoomplayer and cccp codec pack, cant fail with those.

My anime summer was a bit quiet... spent summer in Austria so had much more to do besides sitting in front of computer, watched some old animes this summer though, like Kimagure Orange Road.

CCCP with Media player Classic + "open source" CoreAVC, my computer is veeery old and standard ffdshow filter fails when it comes to watch stuff in HD resolutions. As for the shows there are quite a few surprisingly, Sekirei (some eps are even uncensored - oppai banzai !!!) Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu, The Daughter of Twenty Faces, Zettai Karen Children, Code Geass R2, Zero no Tsukaima S3 but still my favourite ones are those who started quite a long time ago - One Piece, D.Gray Man and 4th Season of Major. Spent the summer watching: more Daughter of Twenty Faces, Chocolate Underground, Itazura na Kiss, Mahou Tsukai...Natsu no Sora, Natsume Yuujinchou, Nogizaka Haruka, Special A, and Ryoko's Case File. I've got Birdy, Telepathy Shojo, World Destruction and Antique Bakery still waiting to be watched (or deleted).

20 Faces is still one of my favorites. Chocolate Underground was really cute. Natsume Yuujinchou is really sweet and charming. Nogizaka is adorable. Ryoko's Case File is really interesting. The rest of it is kinda...meh...

use Vista Codec Pack together with Media Player Classic. No problems so far. Summer for me was Code Geass, Macross Frontier, Zero no Tsukaima, Nogizaka Haruka and Sekirei. Can't wait for Nodame as well! XD

most of my animes are in .mkv so it's Windows Media Player Classic.
VLC display horrible subtitle fonts when playing .mkv videos so i only use VLC when i want to take screenshots.

I use Media Player Classic at home then use FFDShow for decoding... (I prefer to tweak the codecs myself). in the office, as we're not allowed to install non-work related stuff, I just use MPlayer...
btw, is KMPlayer really that great?

Most of the stuff I watched/watching is like, popular. Code Geass and Macross are two of those.

Some others I watched based on storyline, like Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu and Kyaoran Kazoku Nikki!

Oh, CCCP for Windows, SMPlayer for Ubuntu!

I've been catching up on older series this summer- I'm working my way through Armored Trooper VOTOMS and GaoGaiGar at the moment, and just finished up the original Patlabor OVAs. Of the new series, I'm only really watching Slayers REVOLUTION, and it's been a bit slow to start. It gets better after episode 8 or so, and they say that they'll make more episodes in a few months.

KM player for me alongside CCCP for codecs.

Highlights for this season were Macross Frontier, Daughter of 20 faces and Bounen no X'amd
Lowlights were Code Geass R2 and Sekirei (god, the voices annoy me). Nogizaki Haruka started off good, but then went bland. Noto Mamiko was also totally miscast!!!

Next season, the shows I will be watching with a microscope is Kurogane no Linebarrel (sexiest mechas this side of the Five star stories) and Toradora (meet the ultimate tsundere)!!!
Will be watching Kemeko DX as well.

I've been using VLC for Windows for ages, so when I got a Mac I just put VLC on there to save the hassle. Might check out Zoomplayer/CCCP for Windows and MPlayer for Mac after reading some of the comments though.

As for me, I don't watch things until the whole season's over, so I'm eagerly anticipating Summer season anime and not Fall. ^^; Which, in this case, would be Nogizaki Haruka, Code Geass R2, Zero no Tsukaima, and Strike Witches in particular.

I switched from VLC to MPC+CCCP codec awhile back. VLC is versatile, but it had its problems. I still use VLC to capture screens though.
And I didnt watch any summer anime. Im usually a season behind, so i read reviews of which animes were good, and I go back and watch them :P Better than sampling a whole bunch, time is precious :P
