Figure Display Techniques

Kind of related to a previous post I threw up here...

This is my main figure display shelf, where my favorites go. I tend to work at night, in the dark but still like to be able to see the figures, so backlighting them worked out well (has the added bonus of casting low ambient light in the room so I don't run into stuff). I'd dearly love to put some glass over the front (to save on dusting time) but that's expensive.

So how does everyone else go about displaying figures? Anyone have a mad cool way of doing it?

Wow very nice display! Almost look like they're holding lightsabers! I need more room to better display my figures... so I really really need to clean up FAST!

Hmm I was considering modifying my current display case to have a light much like that :) It makes the figures look so .... epic .. i mean look at Saber!!! O.O <3 <3

looks like there's a light in the back with little openings trimming the bottom?

She's so epic I couldn't even tell who it was with the dim lighting. Maybe they should start making glow in the dark figures?

The lighting is actually just a strip of Idea's "Dioder" LED lighting, held down with double sided tape :D It works well 'cause it's modular and doesn't give off any (or at least very little) heat to damage the figures... on the down side it's like, crazy expensive...

Really cool lighting. Personally i just stick them wherever they fit, and try to keep the direct sun off them. Would really like a closed display cabinet, but don't have the room for it.
BTW why did you use the peg to keep Tessa up; can stand right by herself.

I tried her without the peg for a couple of months (admittedly in the middle of summer), but she just kept leaning forward and eventually falling off the base and wiping out whatever was on the desk below her. When I get some time I was considering just running a long self-tapper up the inside of her leg.

Is that Batman on the right? He's missing out on all the limelight, though I guess staying true to character lol ^^

Sadly not Batman (though that would be cool).  It's actually one of my own characters... first (and so far only) ever attempt at using Super Sculpey.  Didn't turn out so crash hot, probably best it's mostly in the dark ^^;

Agree with your thoughts on glass. Plastic may be cheaper but can hold a static charge, so then you could end up dusting that :|

The LEDs I have tested for spotlighting, do not have good color temperature so I'll revisit this problem...

I feel you there. I personally generally prefer quite warm lighting (around the 3300K mark), but I couldn't find anyone making a suitable lamp around that temperature. I guess if you were of a technical bent you could probably wire something up out of Luxeons or something... but I ain't that good with solder.

Well, Ikea tends to do crazy markups, so possibly. I unfortunately made the mistake of buying the strip set that could change colour, totally not worth it as I only ever use the white setting. The plain white only strip is about AU$30 cheaper.

I was going to ask about the lighting job after seeing your post "Two Years Difference". Thanks for reading my mind. =)

Right now, I don't have a lot of room and can only have 2 or 3 out at a time so I end up rotating my figures. The only good thing about this is I don't have to dust them much but it's an obvious PITA putting them back in their boxes.
