Mambo

Mambo
Q: What do some folks do when they come across a huge rare fish?
A: Haul it out of the ocean and put it on display of course...
Sigh. Via Japan Probe.

Poor Sunfish... I agree with you paiki, if they had a choice they should have let it go, but those are fishermen, they don't give a darn care about them (otherwise they would not do this job). This is why I hate them as well as hunters.
If it was already dead in the net, I guess it couldn't be avoided. But if they killed it, it's unforgivable... Just look at this big puncture hole on the fish.

The only part I was interested in was to watch them swimming peacefully. They are kind of cute when you look at them.

believe me that fish is better off in Japan. if it found its way to any of the neighbooring countries, a whole community is gonna have grilled mambo fish for a week.

Wouldn't it be ironic if it was the last two in the world. I would have last one but I think it takes two to reproduce.

>< There goes another Mola Mola. Was in Bali 2 months ago diving, just praying to see one of this but alas it just did not appear. How sad to see it being caught and eventually on a dinner plate. I heard there's one in captivity at KAIYUKAN Aquarium in Osaka, so hope i can see it there when i visit Japan next month! :D

This year alone I heard 2 news reports of the Japanese finding a very, very rare shark species and putting it into captivity.

Unfortunately each time they did so the shark would die. You'd think they'd do some research on the animal first before thinking they can just throw it in a tank. But we all know the Japanese idea of "research"... *cough*whale-killers*cough**cough*

And now this. Whether the fisherman killed it or not, you can bet the news and his peers would have sung him no less praise.

Dude, if it's a 'very rare shark species', wouldn't it be possible that scientists in general would have no idea whether they would survive in captivity? : For one thing, no one knew that the Great White Shark wouldn't survive in a tank (due to electromagnetic interference or something along those lines) until quite a few of them died.

For people who are sad and outraged that the mambo was caught, well just boycott the whole damn fishing industry then. Mambos actually spend a whole lot of their time at around 656.2 ft so if it was caught it was either 1) sunbathing, or 2) weakened/dead and thus near the surface.

Frankly speaking I think a live Mambo would be worth a lot more than a dead one.

exotic food is huge in asian cultures... I know that cuz i am Chinese lol. Japanese fish industry is brutal towards sea animals... have u seen the special report on the cheerleader in HEroes trying to save the dolpins... the butcher place is flooded with dolphin blood... I am not a green peace treehuging animal lover, but after seeing that I do feel bad for the dolphins...

Oh ya, Hayden can save my dolphins !!

Remember what cruel humans you are next time you munch on that chicken or whatever meat you eat. Or are chickens not as valuable as these fish? Why? Because they are stupid? I know plenty of stupid people, but that still wouldn't justify me eating them.

It's easy to soothe your conscience by feeling sorry for the animal. I'm not sure how I should feel, it's ultimately quite a complicated issue.
