Appropriate that I came across this today. Was in Tokyo station and ordered something on the menu which looked really nice - what eventually came looked nothing (and I mean nothing) like the picture in the menu - even the contents of the dish were different than what was written on the menu.
How often do you come across bad service in your region and what do you do about it?

well depends on the restaurant, if its a fast food place, don't ever visit again. if its a family restaurant or something, tip them 1 cent. if you don't leave a tip, they might think you've forgotten, but leaving 1 cent is clearly an insult and shows that you're not satisfied with the service.
by the way, i didn't think it was possible to write so legitably with ketchup and mustard.

I've been waiting 1 1/2 hours for a meal once and was about to get really angry when I told the waitress for the 6th time. A few minutes later my meal finally arrived and I was happy again when the waitress told me that I don't need to pay for it. This was the only time I came across "bad" service in a restaurant, the fast food places often forget my order or simply leave me at the counter...

I don't tip. See, here you have to tip by law. A way to deal with bad service is not tip at all.

I've known a few people that dine-and-dash, after receiving bad service.

The only bad service I get (always) is that, when I call a waitress she never comes to me. I have to move my own ass to get to the bar and tell my business.

one time i went with a couple of friends to this restaurant we placed our order and we started waiting for like 25 mins then the waiter comes back and asks us again what we wanted so we ordered again and waited for another 20 mins and nothing so what we did was simply to go to this other restaurant on the opposite side of the street and we sat near the window so the waiter from the other restaurant could clearly see us
the look on his face was priceless

Hmm I usually get great customer service at restautrants. Which is good. I guess it helps when you do some research about that particular place you want to go to.

earlier last year, I was at the pantry (A famous restaurant in downtown la) with my mom and her friend, this place usually has a line going half-way around the building, that's how good it is. Well, we noticed that this one waiter was letting people in from back of the line, and then when my mom confronted him about it, he was very rude, so, we spoke to the manager, and apparently he was looking for an excuse to fire the guy, and we ended up with a free meal.

Under the circumstances, the picture seems like a perfectly reasonable reaction to me. When I come accross bad servie, I just don't leave a tip.

went to a benigans at 3am, ..i work graveyards.. sue me...and it took 15 minutes to get a waitress, then another 10 to get the drinks, then 30 minutes toget the food.. and another 30 min to get the check.. and thats how many times she came to the table.. didn't leave a tip..actually left a dime..dind't have 2 cents...

moral of the story.. never go out at 3 am and expect good service.. espceially when the bars let out >_
