The idea of a camera viewer on the rifle isn't really new, It's been around for some time. Yeah you can look around corners without sticking your body out and still see with your helmet cam, but then your vision is relying on that available screen space creating tunnel-vision (if you will). I would, however like to see them improve upon this by making a smaller unit, either integrated on the weapon or an accessory of small size.

I don't know exactly what he said at the end but the mobile suit joke was a good crack at the idea.

I saw a gun they had on future weapons on the history channel where you can actually bend the gun 90 degrees on a hinge and use the screen at the end of the gun to fire at people. As well as remote control explosive rounds that you can blow up at a certain time, ie shooting past a wall and blowing it up where you think there's a guy right next to it.

Isn't it pretty much what modern armies of today have?

Think Call of Duty 4.

Although I don't see the rifle from the picture in the video, I'm glad they've made a new rifle suitable for urban combat. Helmet seems a tad bulky though. Still, there's nothing that Japan did here that other countries haven't.

the one in the picture is just a shortened version with an M4 style stock of the Type-89 you see in the video

Neat, your right that this is old news. I worked on the rapid prototype project for the US version of this configuration. "Land Warrior", I believe all of the NATO countries are working on some version of the networked dismounted infantry utilizing the same basic framework of technologies. It is not really anything ground breaking they are all consumer off the shelf technologies, it is the configuration and use that is unique for that particular application. Any way just wanted to take the opportunity to say I rock because I worked on it. :P HA!
