Malaysia Char Siew Fan

Malaysia Char Siew Fan
DARN! Was doing spring cleaning of my hard drive (as one does) and came across this pic I took when I was last in Penang Malaysia.
I wish I didn't stumble on to this pic at this time of night (10:30 now).
Its made me rather hungry indeed. Must go to Malaysia to eat! (and drop off at Singapore on the way back to JP).
Dont know what this is called in English but I referred to it as "Char Siew, Siew Yook Fan."
Nothing to do with Char from gundam although the color of the meat is the same as his mobile suits.

in english? you'd have to go for the ultra long version of crispy pork & BBQ pork with rice. So much easier to say char siu Siu yook fan. (hurrah for my ultra limited cantonese!!!)

Personally, I just go for sam siu fan. (3 meat) rice.

In US, you usually order this under the name: BBQ Pork with Rice or Roast Pork with Rice, or BBQ Pork and Roast Pork with rice.

"Zhu Pai Fan"

Zhu = pig/pork, Fan= rice, I hope I got these two right.

What's the meaning "Pai"? White? I'm not sure.

Thx.

Pai would mean something along the lines of "cutlet" or "chop"

so either pork cutlet or pork chop

its bbq pork (char siew) and roast pig (siew yoke). for those who watch stephen chow's god of cookery should know wat it is if they hv not tried it themselves. but hongkong bbq rice is kinda different from malaysian version. i suggest u all to come Malacca to try our bbq rice. the char siew is cook to perfection. the char siew must hv sum fat on it so after being roast with herbs and flavorin, it is the best. mus hv sum char siew as my breakfast tomorrow. try it and u wont forget it.

Looks delicious. My family usually buys 2 large takeout boxes of those meats whenever we go to the market.

As a side note, has anyone ever had poorly cooked char siew? Gah, its one of those foods where if you don't cook it right, it tastes terrible.
