DARN! Was doing spring cleaning of my hard drive (as one does) and came across this pic I took when I was last in Penang Malaysia. I wish I didn't stumble on to this pic at this time of night (10:30 now). Its made me rather hungry indeed. Must go to Malaysia to eat! (and drop off at Singapore on the way back to JP). Dont know what this is called in English but I referred to it as "Char Siew, Siew Yook Fan." Nothing to do with Char from gundam although the color of the meat is the same as his mobile suits.
in english? you'd have to go for the ultra long version of crispy pork & BBQ pork with rice. So much easier to say char siu Siu yook fan. (hurrah for my ultra limited cantonese!!!) Personally, I just go for sam siu fan. (3 meat) rice.
sam siu fan is t3h r0x0r!!!111! Penang's the place to be for food. damn i wish i was there now :(
マレーシアのたべものはおいしいです!マレーシアにいろいろなじんがありますから、たべものもいろいろなタイープがありますね。
i'm expecting lots of malaysians to post here like how many singaporeans post in the chicken rice post. ('~')
we have Char Siew Fan in singapore as well. can be bought at most chicken rice stall. ^^;
Danny, is that your "Loh-Hon-Goh" beverage ;-) In Malaysia, "The Chicken Rice Shop" have Chicken-meat version of Char Siew for Muslim due to Halal legitimacy.
char siew - BBQ pork siew yook - roasted pork i prefer siew yook over char siew :D~
you can get char siew rice at almost any chicken rice stall nowadays... but still prefer chicken rice over char siew rice...
Char Siew Fan is delicious you must eat it.
Char Siew >> Siew Yook I manage to find a sweet spot for Chicken Rice with Char Siew in Ipoh ... yum yum
nasi campur in indonesia XD
Nasi Campur Jakrta to be exact (each region in Indonesia have their own version of mixed rice)
i have a question even if its off topic are there any moroccan restaurants in japan ?
now I'm hungry...
Waaaahhh...last time I had a bite of that dish was about four years ago. totemo oishii desu ne. ^^
In US, you usually order this under the name: BBQ Pork with Rice or Roast Pork with Rice, or BBQ Pork and Roast Pork with rice.
in Mandarin, we call it "Zhu Pai Fan"...
"Zhu Pai Fan" Zhu = pig/pork, Fan= rice, I hope I got these two right. What's the meaning "Pai"? White? I'm not sure. Thx.
Pai would mean something along the lines of "cutlet" or "chop" so either pork cutlet or pork chop
never eaten that in malaysia... singapore has it too tho
Hmmm...I think i'll stick to halal food :S
hey, i just ate that!!
oh man, i damn like to eat char siew fan and siu yok fan...
its bbq pork (char siew) and roast pig (siew yoke). for those who watch stephen chow's god of cookery should know wat it is if they hv not tried it themselves. but hongkong bbq rice is kinda different from malaysian version. i suggest u all to come Malacca to try our bbq rice. the char siew is cook to perfection. the char siew must hv sum fat on it so after being roast with herbs and flavorin, it is the best. mus hv sum char siew as my breakfast tomorrow. try it and u wont forget it.
don't like pork to much, eating them somehow get me sick i stick to chicken, or beef
Looks delicious. My family usually buys 2 large takeout boxes of those meats whenever we go to the market. As a side note, has anyone ever had poorly cooked char siew? Gah, its one of those foods where if you don't cook it right, it tastes terrible.
It was chicken rice before, and now this??? OMG Danny! You're sooooo making me hungry!!! Gosh it's like 1.33am now.. Where can I get Char Siew Fan at this timeeeeee (º∆º)"
lol makes me hungry (since it's 10am right now). But oh well, i just need to walk 60 meters to go to the nearest chinese stall anyway~ *grabs Dim Sum and Wan Tan Min along*
