Initial D

Initial D
In Japan, when you play car games in the arcades, you sit in an actual car - more pics and video at Akihabara News.
Would you try this or the Gundam one where you get in a pod? (if you could only choose one)

News is a bit old. They released this arcade version for Initial D Version 4 which was coming out of testing and ready for distribution.

I want one where I live.

Oh that's really cool ! I've played tons of racing games in arcades in Tokyo but never seen these. I've also seen the Gundam pods but it was like 500 yen for one game ?

I also loved the horse-betting racing stands, although I haven't played it myself.

I've seen these before at an arcade exhibition, but imagen how much security you'd need. They'd get trashed in no time ^^;

We do! at Dave and Busters they have real formula 1 cars that you sit in and race from in front of a big screen. The car even moves side to side and up and down as you race around the track. Its been out for.. I dont know, 5 years? They also have a three story game where you are suspended in front of a huge screen vertically, and you have a hot air balloon with a spike on the bottom and try to pop the balloons from above... if you get popped, you fall all the way down to the bottom REALLY fast.

I'll pick the Gundam one over the Initial D anyday! ;D, speaking of these game "pods" I remmber when I was playing in an arcade, I was playing Starwars Pod(?) racing. There was actually a pod where you sit with the real controls in the movie ^^;; It was fun~

Pretty cool to race in the actual cars. They do take up a lot of space though. ^^ Since I'm a car addict I would go for a ride (...ok ok, lots of rides) in the Initial D cars.

I play Initial D v3 on a weekly basis and spend about R50 (¥872) on it which is 10 games.

This one just looks so much better, the controls are better and more realistic (except for the gears). I would love to try it out but I doubt if they will bring it over here. :(

I wonder if this one has a clutch? I miss it in v3.

Ok that's something new and cool to me and I'd just have to go for that racing sim myself. I'm not that big into mecha.

Yeah, I've heard of it before but never seen any pics of it.. Great! Thanx Danny! I'd wanna try it even though I'm not a big fan of Initial D arcade.. A fan of the anime/psp though ^^;

Ah sorry for the double posting.. I just remembered that there was something similar in the Sydney Motorshow this year.. It was Lancer Evo X simulation game.. It was really similar to the Initial D except that it was in the real Evo X.. Pretty neat!

WHY DO YOU TORMENT WITH THIS DANNY?!?!?!?!?

Living in portugal, i have seen but ONE single machine of Initial D Arcade Stage ver3... So the odds of ever seeing a brand new ver4 are pretty mucc low to say the least... And playing while on the actual cars... Never...

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!

But yeah, i'd choose initial d over gundam, but just because if i could only get a single play-through, i know i'd get the most out of initial d than from gundam due to the controls.

Such a hard choice, but since i'm not that good at driving games i would rather go into the Gundam pod.

I'd choose Initial D over gundam..I dunno why but I'm more excited behind a steering wheel instead behind a cockpit....

Well, this reminds me of the ol' Ridge Racer Arcade game where you do get into a 1:1 scale Mazda MZ3 convertible with working clutches and transmission, as well as blowing fans to simulate the wind as you speed up. Of course, that was with cheap ass PS1 graphics.

Man that's awesome, would love one near my neighborhood.
They have some arcade machines like that, for instance in a Gameworks in Miami they have 2 sets of Initial D machines. In one you drive in a seat like a normal machine, while the other you sit inside a pod which rocks, turns and adds g force to make you feel like you're driving the car.
But well since I have my car I do a lot of racing :D

How about Initial G then? You're in a Gundam pod drifting downhill on Mount Akina and using the Gundam Hammer to swing quickly across the corner while the Guncannon targets the FD that's close on your tail. That sounds like fun!
